AM3 CPUs ~Phenom-II/Athlon-II don't support greater than 1333MHz RAM. The IMC can't handle anything higher than 1333MHz on these K10 CPUs. You can get a away with two sticks of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, but if you are going for 4 modules, you'll have to settle with 1333MHz. And AMD systems aren't like INTEL, these platforms benefit from tighter timings than bus speed. You'll be better of with CAS7/8 than say a set of CAS9 RAM when using AMD, & there's virtually no difference when using 1333MHz+ RAM.

Only the FX CPUs support 1866MHz+ RAM ~FX81xx/61xx/41xx. These CPUs can natively run the higher bus speed, while having greater b/w over the current Phenom architecture. So, IMO look for low latency RAMs, if you are going for AMD.

Fair enough, if you are buying it from BD. Look for the Gigabyte 990FX UD7, or I can recommend my board MSI 990FXA-GD80. You can't go wrong with either one, the MSI boards sports a UEFI bios vs the traditional bios found on the Gigabyte board. Other than that both of them are flawless in terms of design. The Gigabyte UD7 is all black, while MSI is more of a blue theme. Idk if the Crosshair V is available, but that is one hell of a board if you can get it!

But be advised, these CPUs won't handle 1866 RAM, it'll automatically select(downclock) to 1333, so you'll be better of setting tighter timings to compensate for the reduced speed

OT: what is the cheapest but reliable AMD mobo in BD at the moment?
