Post New Xbox console planned for holiday 2014?

New Xbox console planned for holiday 2012?

Windows Weekly tech reporters say "Project Ten" planned for release late next year with better Windows and Windows Mobile integration; CES reveal speculated.

Source: The latest episode of the Windows Weekly podcast, hosted by Leo Laporte and featuring fellow tech reporters Paul Thurrott and Mary Jo Foley.

    What we heard
: Around the 88-minute mark of the show, Laporte prompts Thurrott to talk about the new Xbox, which he calls "Project Ten." Thurrott then explains that he has been hearing the console is planned for
release during the 2012 holiday season, "meaning that they would almost have to announce this at [Consumer Electronics Show], wouldn't they?"

Is it almost time to move on?

As for details about the system, Thurrott said it would be "all Metro," referring to the unified style of interface that Microsoft is rolling out among its various platforms. He also said it would have Microsoft's Silverlight video plug-in embedded in the hardware, which Foley suggested would help further the Internet TV push that was begun on the Xbox 360.

Perhaps more importantly, Thurrott said the next Xbox would focus on integration with Microsoft's other platforms and products, a historical weak point for the company. (To hammer that home, Thurrott noted that the Xbox 360 will play media on an iPod or iPhone, but not on a Windows Phone.) That means the new system would have a measure of Windows 8 and Windows Phone integration, with Thurrott calling the strategy "going the Apple route." Given Microsoft's existing efforts to unify the look and functionality of its products, it would be odd if the next Xbox were excluded from that push.

While Thurrott speculated that the system would be announced at January's CES show in order to make a holiday release window, history shows that's not necessarily the case. The Xbox 360 launched in November of 2005 and was a notable no-show at that year's CES. In fact, the system's proper unveiling didn't happen until an MTV special that aired May 12, 2005, the week before the kickoff of the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

This is not the first time the 2012 release time frame has come up in rumors about the next Xbox. In May, a report circulated that Microsoft was planning to unveil its next console at E3 2011, with a launch by the end of 2012. Shortly after E3 2011 came and went without a peep about new hardware from Microsoft, rumors of an E3 2012 reveal for the system began circulating. First the news came by way of a high-ranking source at

    Crytek
, then from a source with knowledge of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division operations.

However, not every rumor has pointed in the same direction. Last month, it was reported that chip manufacturers and software middleware firms expect the next Xbox to be announced at E3 2013, with a launch following in time for the holidays.

    The official word
: "As an innovator, we're always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology like we did with Kinect. We believe the key to extending the life span of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. Beyond that we don't comment on rumors or speculation."--A Microsoft representative.

    Bogus or not bogus
: Bogus that anything is set in stone, but a holiday 2012 release would fit with most of the rumors seen of late.

Bad news?Well consider if you still haven't gotten much juice out of 360 yet then of course it is

Xbox 720:every rumor bout the new xbox

Updated: Specs, release date and more for the new Xbox

Rumours about the new Xbox (or Xbox 720, as it's often referred to as) are now more than just internet gossip.
It's one thing to wildly speculate about the next Xbox console. It's quite another to find out that Microsoft is gearing up to build one.

Recent job postings reveal that the Xbox Console Architecture team is hunting for new blood. Successful candidates will join a team that will be "responsible for defining and delivering next generation console architectures from conception through implementation."

ITProPortal also suggested in October 2011 that several employees were giving away their involvement on their LinkedIn profiles, such as "Xbox Next Gen Creative Director."

It also came to light in August 2011 that the next Xbox could actually overlap the Xbox 360's lifespan. That's according to an interview from Metro with Xbox's European head Chris Lewis.
According to reports in late October 2011, the next generation Xbox console will launch at E3 in 2013.

Develop claims to have been told by that multiple sources, from chip manufacturers to middleware firms, to expect the console to arrive at the gaming expo in June 2013.

So let's gather together the facts, the half-whispered untruths and the wishful thinking to see what such a machine might be like…

The Xbox 720 specs will be a significant technological leap forward

The Xbox 360 was launched in 2005, with the best technology that 2004 had to offer. Inside, it used a custom-made IBM Power PC with a trio of 3.2GHz cores and an ATI graphics processor.
Compare this ageing specification to a 2011 PC like the Scan 3XS Vengeance. It rocks the latest Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge CPU, Nvidia GTX 580 graphics card, 1TB of onboard storage and 8GB of DDR3.

Cevat Yerli, the boss at Crytek, believes that the PC is effectively a generation ahead of the Xbox 360 and PS3. "As long as the current console generation exists and as long as we keep pushing the PC as well, the more difficult it will be to really get the benefit of both," Yerli spilled to Edge.

    Something has got to give.

Xbox 720 storage and disc format

Cloud storage? We might not be ready to abandon physical media just yet. But Steam has served PC users well for several years and OnLive is turning heads.
The most obvious next-gen storage option for the next Xbox is Blu-ray. But Microsoft has refused to add it to the existing Xbox 360. Other alternatives? You'll find flag-wavers for flash drives, Nintendo-style game cartridges, even the resurrection of HD-DVD.

    Xbox 720 processor and graphics

Considering that the Xbox 360 Slim now features a 'Vejle' CPU/GPU combo processor, KitGuru ponders the possibility of the new Xbox 720 getting a cutting-edge AMD Fusion chip. It's betting on the DX11-capable Krishna APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), due for release late 2012.

    Semi Accurate
believes the new chip will actually be called Obed and incorporate elements of IBM design - however it seems AMD is nailed on as the manufacturer.

AMD reckons it will be a beast of a machine, pumping out graphics that offer Avatar-levels of detail. James Cameron's opus used CGI and 3D capturing, with each minute of footage costing $1 million to make.
Not only will the console be capable of Avatar-style graphics, according to Neal Robison, AMD's director of ISV relationships, it will also feature improved artificial intelligence and physics capabilities.

This could mean that each individual incidental character – like the pedestrians in Grand Theft Auto, for example – could each take on their own individual personality.

The 'bigger, better, more' ethic is what makes the games industry tick. Eat Sleep Play founder David Jaffe suggests we desperately need a new generation of high-end consoles to keep producing 'blockbuster' games like Battlefield 3, Crysis 2 and LA Noire. "Gameplay travels very easily," Jaffe told IGN. "The spectacle doesn't."

EA's Frank Gibeau disagrees. "Obviously, more computing horsepower is nice, but to be honest, the Xbox 360 and PS3 still have a lot of horsepower that hasn't been tapped."

In October 2011 it was reported that developers were prepping games that could run on a new console.
Epic's Mark Rein suggests that a tablet might be the shape of consoles to come. "Imagine a future Xbox 360 that is actually a tablet you carry around," Rein told Develop last year. "It will have more power than 360 does today, with technology like Kinect built right in…"

What about the Xbox 720 controller?

Love it/hate it, gesture-control is here to stay. Expect an improved version of Microsoft's Kinect hardware to be a prominent feature of any new Xbox. Kinect is currently the world's "fastest selling consumer electronics device" with sales topping 10 million. A Guinness World Record.
But the game pad will remain the input device of choice for veteran gamers. We can't imagine playing Gears of War 4 by waving our arms around. It lacks precision.

Could the next Xbox run Windows 8?

Microsoft wants to create an ecosystem of apps and games that work between Windows Phone, Windows and the next Xbox. But could that mean the new gaming console could run a variant of Windows 8 as Gamerant suggests?

The Xbox 720 release date is 2013. Or 2014. Or 2015…

Microsoft has said publically that the Xbox 360 will have (at least) a 10-year life lifespan to match the PS3. That puts a new Xbox launch into 2015…
Senior execs for a big US retailer told their shareholders in July 2011 that they don't expect the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 until 2014.

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli feels that we're due a "new [console] generation in 2012, 2013." While M2 senior analyst Billy Pidgeon told NowGamer that, while he expects a Wii 2 to surface by 2012, he's "not expecting a next generation Xbox before Q4 2014."

The 2014-2015 timescale looks a good bet. Square Enix is already anticipating the Xbox 720 by planning to open a second Canadian development studio by 2012. "The new consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will require more attention and more staff," said Stéphane d'Astous. "We want to prepare ourselves."

Bethesda's Todd Howard, game director for the forthcoming blockbuster Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, says that gamers should not expect follow-ups to the PS3 and Xbox 360 until 2014, at the very earliest.

Speaking to PSM3 magazine, the Bethesda exec said that gamers were happy with the current generation of console tech and that he didn't expect to see an Xbox 720 or a PlayStation 4 before 2014.

Backing this up is a comment made by a designer who has worked with Microsoft, who implied that a new Xbox 2015 release date is set. In his online portfolio, Ben Peterson wrote "Microsoft Xbox. Confidential / Collaboration with Microsoft's IEB design group investigating future user experiences and hardware for 2015."

Alongside an angled image that doesn't give much away, he wrote: "Microsoft Xbox. Confidential / Collaboration with Microsoft's IEB design group investigating future user experiences and hardware for 2015. *Work samples only permissible in person.* (March 2011)."

Question marks hang over such information; who is Ben Peterson? Didn't he sign an NDA when working with Microsoft? Why is there no contact information on his online portfolio? Will he be allowed to live after such a faux-pas? Or is this all a traffic-mongering lie?

Call of Duty developer Treyarch has also posted a job ad for people to work on a game "for a new console.

Also in early October 2011, an ad for the new system has also been spotted in a trailer for the film Real Steel.

But the next Xbox could be showcased at E3 2012

The successor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console is likely to be unveiled at E3 2012, according to a "high-ranking source at Crytek". They said that TimeSplitters 4 is being developed for the next-generation console, using Microsoft's updated DX11 development tool. We're not so sure about that, but you never know...

Seems to forget that the 360 can still sell along with the 720, and at 2015 it will no longer be supported. So ya we can easily see a new console late 2013. 2012 E3 will be interesting

Also Kinect Integrated to the whole Console, which should sum up extra 30-50$ when it comes out.

Microsoft confirms Kinect is Xbox 720

In an interview with Eurogamer published earlier today, Xbox and Entertainment Director Stephen McGill confirmed that Microsoft has no plans for a new Xbox console. Instead, the company will be focusing their efforts on supporting Kinect. "We'll continue to evolve those gaming and entertainment experiences through the power of software updates, rather than new chipsets and plastic," McGill said. (Source)

This statement should not come as a surprise by any means. Microsoft executives have routinely denied any plans for an "Xbox 720" for years, vehemently insisting that the Xbox 360's lifecycle was merely at the halfway point with another five years left in the tank. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer even referred to Kinect as the "new generation Xbox 360" during a speech at the London School of Economics last month. It is clear then that Kinect is supposed to be the Xbox 720.

With a marketing budget of half a billion dollars, Microsoft is banking on Kinect's success. But is it a smart move on Microsoft's part to consider a motion sensing periperhal as the next generation Xbox? If early software review scores on launch titles are any indication, it is still up in the air whether or not Kinect will be a success in today's world of video games let alone against the future generation of beefed up consoles. Could the Xbox 360 with Kinect really compete with a "PlayStation 4" and "Wii 2" if/when they are released in the future? Hopefully they are at least working on a new Xbox in secret.

Default Re: New Xbox console planned for holiday 2012?

What Will the Xbox 720 Cost?

The Xbox 360 had the best of its rival, the PS3 in a few ways. For one, it was released first, but perhaps more importantly it was the cheaper of the two consoles. You can argue about the pros and cons of the two until hell freezes over, but you'll never be able to deny that a cheaper console is inevitably going to decide those previously undecided gamers. The question on everyone's lips therefore, is whether Microsoft will plan to continue this trend in releasing a console that will be cheaper than the anticipated PlayStation 4 from Sony. With a distinct lack of information from the developers at Microsoft at present, we are left with a guessing game as to the specifications that we can expect to see in the Xbox 720, and of course, the cost at which we can expect to buy it. Fortunately given the information that is currently circulating about the next generation console from Microsoft, not to mention historical bits and pieces concerning its predecessor the Xbox 360, we can certainly make an educated guess.

    Historical Pricing

The first point of interest comes purely from the original cost of the Xbox 360. The different models launched at different prices, with an original 360 system costing $399.99, and a Core System offered up at just $299.99. Later we saw additional entries into the Xbox marketplace, such as the Elite at $479.99, the Arcade at a modest $279.99 and the Super Elite hitting shelves for $399.99.

We can undoubtedly expect different models once again with the debut of the Xbox 720, so prices may be scaled according to the functionality and extras built in to your model of choice. Despite that, we still expect that the cheapest model on offer is likely to top $350 due principally to the rising cost of components. Technology continues to move forward and with rising inflation around the globe it would be unreasonable to suspect that a new console, crammed with all the latest and greatest technological gadgets and gizmos, would cost less than its predecessor.

The Innards of the Xbox 720

Consider how much a gaming PC would cost in today's market. Certainly more than $1,000 for a reasonable specification. Consoles have historically been cheaper than their PC equivalents, due partially to their distinct lack of upgrade ability. This is a trend certainly set to continue, so don't start panicking about the need to find $1,500 to pay for your own 720 just yet.
Having said that, the technology combining to form the innards of the next gen console from Microsoft is likely to be very sophisticated, particularly if we can put any weight behind early claims about Avatar-style graphics. Rumors of a combined CPU/GPU chip designed specifically for this purpose is sure to raise prices, but not to an unreasonable level.

    The Red Ring of Death

Almost every Xbox gamer has cast their eye upon the Red Ring at some point in their console's life. Microsoft has been forced to fork out who knows how much cash in the repair of an endless stream of broken consoles, so will they learn their lesson this time around? With a desperate rush to bring the Xbox 360 out quickly and affordably, Microsoft certainly opted for cheaper components than was sensible, hence the constant breakdown of the technology. More expensive components mean a greater price at the outset, but increased reliability may just be worth the extra cost.

    Motion Sensing

Like it or not, it looks like the motion sensing Kinect technology is here to stay. Launching into the marketplace at $149.99, the Kinect was supposed to revolutionize the way that we enjoy games. Despite an initial onslaught of titles that would have seemed more fitting for the Wii, we are just now starting to see some high quality titles make their way to this camera and laser driven means of controlling a game. As such it seems unlikely that Microsoft would be willing to drop the technology for their next console.
What does this mean? Well if the Kinect does come bundled with the Xbox 720 as many critics are assuming it will, that will certainly put up the cost of the overall package. Hopefully not by as much as its $150 standalone price!

    In Conclusion

Based on the above information it seems likely that the Xbox 720 will fall within the price boundaries of $400 - $600. Of course this is pure speculation on our part, but needless to say now is the time to start saving for what is inevitably going to be quite a hit to your bank balance!

Microsoft Xbox 720 to be Called Loop? Comes with ARM & Windows 9

Microsoft is an ARM licensee so it is no surprise to hear rumours that the company plans to use a processor based on ARM's architecture custom built by its engineers in its next generation console, which has been commonly labelled as the Xbox 720, Loop or the Xbox Next.

In a way, Microsoft would be following in the footsteps of Apple who did the same with its A-series SoCs tied in with iOS. Microsoft is said to be doing the same with the Windows 9 Core.

According to MSNerd, the system on chip will come with multiple dedicated cores for graphics, artificial intelligence, physics, sound, networking, encryption and sensors, and is designed by Microsoft and two other partners.

Nvidia could be one of them given that it has worked closely with Microsoft on the Xbox and the Xbox 360 and is currently an ARM licensee as well. XbitLabs reckons that Microsoft could hire AMD to make sure that backwards compatibility wouldn't be lost, although we envisage that the Xbox 720 may be a hybrid between Onlive and current consoles.

Microsoft is expected to announce the console in 2013. Windows 9, we believe could well be the first unified platform by Microsoft to serve both mobiles and desktops, which brings an interesting question. Could the Xbox 720 actually be a smartphone?

Well fingers not crossed ,I'll try keeping it updated for speculations and facts, another thing we need to know bout is the new Xbox live features

    ---------- Post added at 17:50 ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 ----------

    New-Look Xbox.com Now Live

The all-new Xbox.com is now live, boasting some enhanced social features and the adoption of the new "Metro" look and feel.

Visited Xbox.com recently? If not, you're in for a mild surprise when you get there -- things have changed a bit. And mostly for the better.

Head to the Xbox site now and you'll meet the new Social page.

The key concept of Xbox Live has always been based around social interaction -- you can see what your friends are up to and easily join them in a game. The enhancements made to Xbox.com make it easier to do this through the use of a new system called Beacons, allowing you to mark up to three games that you'd like to play with others.

The existing implementation of Xbox Live allows for you to send messages and have party chats with friends, but focuses almost entirely on the "here and now" -- there aren't any features to easily schedule things in advance. With Beacons, however, you can mark the fact that you'd like to play some, say, Gears 3 Horde Mode or Modern Warfare 3 Spec Ops Survival, and leave a comment on your Beacon for friends to see, suggesting a date and time. This feature currently works on Xbox.com and Windows Phone 7, and will be added to the Xbox itself in the upcoming system update.

As well as the Beacons feature and a new social feed from which you can easily compare your achievements and activity with friends, Xbox.com now also allows you to browse the Zune marketplace and purchase videos to download later on your 360, Windows Phone or Zune media player. On top of that, the main Social page of the site features the tile-based "Metro" layout set to appear in both Windows 8 and the upcoming Dashboard update for the 360. From here, you'll be able to check out the latest releases, DLC packs and other goodies. Oh, and you can edit your avatar too. Pretty soon you won't need an Xbox at all!

The Xbox.com updates are live now. Full details can be found on the official forums.

    Source Awesome isn't it?

Even though XBOX 360 has a Capable CPU from IBM, i mean the game these days aren't gonna be cut out cause of DX11 and coming of age for Octa-core processors. As long as they have right hardware created for the next 8 years, they're gonna reveal the details bout it and thats for sure when we'll know its coming sooner. Also in Retrospect they were developing the console 3-4 years ago before it became total public speculations.

Next Xbox in 2012, PS4 dev ramping up - Report

Edge sources say Ubisoft and EA have hands on target hardware for Microsoft's next console with a late 2012 launch in mind, Sony has shifted one studio's focus to the next generation.

It appears next-generation console rumors are coming to a consensus. Edge today reported that Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and other unspecified major developers are developing games for the successor to the Xbox 360 with a late 2012 launch expected.

One year left as Microsoft's top dog?

According to the site, Ubisoft Montreal and "certain EA studios" are working on games with Microsoft-provided "target boxes" that use off-the-shelf computer parts matching the planned specifications for the company's next console. The first legitimate devkits for the system are expected to be provided to developers by the end of this year. The given late-2012 release window lines up with rumors from last week that pegged the next Xbox as launching in the holiday season next year.

Edge also provided a corroborating take for another next-generation rumor that had been floating around, this one about Sony's next PlayStation. Last month, rumors circulated that Sony had begun work on PlayStation 4 games--a notion backed up by Edge's report that "one major Sony-owned studio has now ceased PlayStation 3 development" to work on the next console from the electronics giant.
