Default Spike Video Game Awards 2011 [News & Discussion]

Spike Video Game Awards (VGA) is an award show hosted by Spike TV that recognizes the best computer and video games of the year. The VGAs feature live music performances and appearances by popular performers in music, movies, and television. Additionally, preview trailers for upcoming games are highlighted. The show is produced by GameTrailers TV's Geoff Keighley. The event has been held at various locations in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, California as well as Las Vegas, Nevada.

The program has encountered criticism for its selection of both nominees and winners by the gaming community. Bias for specific platforms and products has been claimed by critics. Additionally, winners are selected via online polling leading to critics calling the results merely a "popularity contest". Spike Video Game Awards 2011 will air on December 10, 2011.

As always, a lot of announcements & trailers will be reveal in this event. For example, last year Uncharted 3 was revealed in this event.

Post Re: Spike Video Game Awards 2011 [News & Discussion]

    BioWare teases new project

First image for EA-owned studio's newest IP depicts savage wreck in wasteland environment; full reveal due next month.

As it has in years past, Spike TV has managed to line up a fairly impressive number of game announcements and reveals for this year's televised Video Game Awards. Last week, show organizers teased that one of those reveals would be from BioWare, and today more information on that game emerged, courtesy of GameStop-owned Game Informer magazine.

It's unlikely this man is just discovering the ability to fly.

Today, the magazine's online arm posted concept art for BioWare's new game, which has yet to be titled. The image shows a wiry man of African descent being flung from a savagely wrecked all-terrain vehicle. A second, equally dilapidated truck is also shown with what appears to be a turret mounted in the bed. Heavily washed-out environments also appear to depict a desert wasteland.

Little else is known about BioWare's new project, other than that it will be an all-new property. BioWare has established a new studio to handle development on the title. A release window or platforms have yet to be revealed.
The 2011 VGAs takes place on December 10 and will be broadcast live on Spike TV and MTV2, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.

Spike TV have released a short teaser trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Rising as it will appear at the now annual Video Game Awards and it reveals absoluetly nothing.

The trailer reiterates that Metal Gear creator will be on hand at the awards to reveal the “truth” about Rising. Just what this “truth” means is anyone’s guess. The trailer features a female voice over saying that now that we’ve heard all the “rumours”, now it’s time for the “truth”. What’s that suppose to mean? There’s something fishy about this? This is Hideo Kojima we’re talking about. Nothing about this so called “truth” will be straight forward.

BioWare's new game gets teaser trailer

BioWare's released a very, very short teaser trailer for the uannounced game it will be officially unveiling next month at the Spike VGA's.

A teaser image for the project was released earlier this month, showing off a fantastic-looking collision in a desert setting in a similar spectacular set-piece we're used to seeing in Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.

This first two-second-long footage shows tanks, explosions and everything else you'd associate with a modern day war game.

    Check the video at-

New BioWare Game Teaser Trailer Arrives

The VGA’s represent one of the highlights of the gaming world calendar as they often feature world first teasers: last year’s ceremony introduced the world to most of the biggest games of this and next year including Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Resistance 3, Batman: Arkham City, and Mass Effect 3 and the same is likely to happen this time out.
One game that is a certain is the next project from BioWare which is tantalisingly teased in the trailer below…
http://youtu.be/RS_f7lY5Pno (warning trailer is stripped away in youtube)

Holy Christ. Like a nano-second of footage and already I’m ready to get on board big time. So, what do we know? Well, having freeze-framed the entire thing several times now (ok, loads of times) it looks to be a contemporary or near future set combat game, featuring humans (the tank casts a shadow which features the unmistakably shape of a human gunner). And there is something being transported on that convoy that the tank attacks – it was too brief to really see, and further investigation doesn’t really help, but it looks very interesting.

And the graphics! That’s some good looking, realistic footage right there.

Whatever is unveiled, I know for certain that I trust the developers. After all, for more than 15 years, BioWare has taken us to amazing new worlds with some of the most consistently impressive releases to the modern market. And it is something of an understatement to see where we are going next.

See it first at the 2011 Video Game Awards Saturday December 10th at 8p ET / 5p PT only on SPIKE.

Is BioWare's new game Mercs Inc?
Or Command & Conquer? Internet detective work begins...

Since the release of a short teaser yesterday speculation on what BioWare's new project could be has run wild.

The latest, and most convincing speculation, attaches the mysterious project to EA's recently revived Command & Conquer project, as well as the long forgotten Mercs Inc. The Command & Conquer link was made by well-known internet sleuth Superannuation, who pointed out a LinkedIn profile of a developer at "Victory Games - BioWare".

The existence of Victory Games was revealed in February along with confirmation of a new Command & Conquer title in development at the studio.

Although the studio's boss, Jon Van Caneghem, mentioned contributing studios in Los Angeles, CA; Austin, TX; and Shanghai, he didn't attach it to BioWare in any way.

The LinkedIn profile could be an indication BioWare has since been signed up to work on the project. Or Victory Games could've just been lobbed in to the BioWare label. Whatever.

The second possibility comes from a NeoGAF formite, who points out that Visceral Los Angeles, made up of former Pandemic staffers, was last reportedly working on Mercs Inc and is no longer part of the core body of Visceral.

Mercs Inc. is believed to have been moved to DICE's Battlefield 3 engine Frostbite 2. It could be that the remnants of the studio were absorbed by BioWare to work on Mercs Inc. Leaked footage of the game certainly bares resemblance to the teaser release yesterday.
