Default [Android] Buying SGSII today. SOme questions

So basically the thing is I will probably buy the SGSII today.

From BC its around 40-44k w/o warranty.

Have some questions for you. If you can answer them before 5.00PM that would be great.

    1. Is there any manufacturing problem in SGSII like Desire/N1? Like in those cases there was AMOLED/SLCD. And if not should I still look for somethings to ensure good quality/product. Maybe in the country the unit was intended to be sold in.
    2. What is the possible price of unlocked Galaxy Nexus will be in your opinion? I think it will be $650+. If thats the case i will buy SGSII today without anymore waiting. As my current phone is almost dead. And if I wait I have to for Nov 15. And I cant go over 550$.
    3. Is there any other phone i should consider in that price range which will give me better/equivalent performance and battery life?

    Thanks in advance.

    ---------- Post added at 10:03 ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 ----------

And one more thing. I dont know if this is true or not. But i have heard/read some where that an android phone records all call times. so basically this means is that even factory resetting will show it that if the phone has been used before or not.

So is this true? if it is how do I access it?

GS2 is an excellent phone. but as usual battery life is poor. but it is not worth investing on something without warranty. I use GS and my friend uses GS2. both are ok but i wish battery life could be better. moreover you will lose interest within few days as there are very few good applications for android. if possible get an iphone 4 or iphone 4s. they are worthy of the money with lots of good application. but network performancewise all of them are basically useless as you can get only 2g network in bd. if you are happy with this go ahead.

one thing i would like to add, never buy any product from samsung without warranty. they make cheap fancy things but not long lasting. i had to change the battery of GS within one year of usage. and every product i used from samsung didnt last more than 2 years.

Cant get an iPhone 4 as its around 50K. and the 4S is 82K.

And I have heavily used android(desire/Incredible/Nexus S) and IPhone 4 before. So I know about the specs/market and stuff.

It has come down to 40k? Really? Wow....No wonder you 're excited.

    1. I don 't know if you 're actually referring to manufacturing defects or variations. If its the later, no changes in the technology of the display, but yes, the display size differs according to various carriers from 4.3" to 4.5". The resolution is the same - 800X480 on all devices and therefore the size difference also results into ppi difference - 207 to 217 ppi. The technology is the same - Super Active Matrix OLED.
On a side-note, Desires shipping with SLCDs were not defective, they were planted with SLCDs because of the shortage of AMOLEDs in the industry, due to them being saved for the newer phones.

    2. Unlocked Nexus Prime will be made available to Europe in the first wave priced at something equivalent to ~$850. Forget it being found for $650 unlocked in any corner of the world at first lauch, but some Asian markets like in Singapore/Hong Kong will somehow be selling them for a lot cheaper as they usually do. The 32GB FU 4S is around $730(no taxes) in HK, cheapest in the world, the immediate cheapest being the expected November release, $830(including taxes) in USA.

    3. I would have strongly suggested you to get the Sensation if it wasn 't that dumb looking and if the bootloader wasn 't locked. The boot loader was locked when i had it, i don 't know if this has been taken care of. I know HTC was supposed to unlock the boot-loader thru a software update, but i most probably didn 't see any other updates to the matter after that. But even if it is, the device itself looks really dumb. The build-quality is far better than the S2, the battery is crap like all Android devices and yes, the antennaegate issue is very prominent in most units.

In the end, I really wish i could convince you to get the iPhone 4. I was just as much into Android as you, if not more and the transformation of Android to iPhone 4 was totally frustrating for me too. I switched multiple iPhone 4s and Galaxy Ss to get the hang of it, every time i got a new one i learned a bit more and went a step forward to mastering the iOS. It is extremely complex to work with but there 's just an infinite world to discover inside it. My first gripe with it was iTunes, i couldn 't just believe that i would have to use this software everytime i wanted to transfer a new photo/music into the phone, but over the year i discovered how organized it has kept my device 's library.

    Newyz, happy shopping. Good luck.

hate Adreano GPUs. Mali is way better. And i think they unlocked it. Not sure though.

Save a bit more and get an iphone 4, at the end of the day specs don't matter. the user experience does which is top-knotch on iphone.........

And about Galaxy S2. I was also mad about it. I have had two-days of hands-on experience and i would say its a no-no because.:
    1) The phone feels cheap after touching iphones, even 3GS feels better at hand(really, IMO) .
    2) It has a Yamaha audio chip, on which Samsung went cheap and gives you terrible music quality.
    3) The display has very contrast which gives a sort of unrealistic colours. Although I liked the screen size and it is handy when reading ebooks, browsing and other stuff......
    4) And the HSDPA speeds which are a plus on the SG S2 are useless for bd.

I think iPhones is the way to go. Although its all upto you and your budget.....

Mute point for me at the moment. As budget and OS is important here. As already my mom is going ballistic over me spending 40k+ on a phone.

Salman bhaiya are you sure you want to buy one without warranty ?

Other than that, I dont see any other problems than the battery life, it would last you like a day or maybe less with heavy usage! Depends on how you set it up, there are many different kernels, with some being plagued by the deep sleep issue. Though this is custom kernels, stock shouldn't have any problems other than the ones mentioned by Hemlock bhaiya.

One of the very best Android phones released till today, good specs, will support ICS in the coming months. Good dev support, if you are into modding, this will keep you busy for a good while...but you'll get bored after sometimes. A very big screen, fantastic for playing games, is on Android 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 - Full multitouch, good camera, humongous display, one of the fastest chipset, an awesome processor. But the plastic construction will feel cheap compared to an iPhone4, Sensation, the audio quality is bad as pointed out by Fahim bhaiya, though I'm not sure about this. Samsung's TouchWiz interface feels like §§§§, after using HTC/SE Phones Since you are more than experienced, you'll have no problems changing it through some customs ROMs.

All in all, it's a very good phone, I'm surprised that the price has come down so much :S It would be better to get opinions from Hemlock/or other experienced users. I'm the one with a measly phone, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I guess you're already off to buy the phone. I don't have anything new to add, you've already done enough research on it. If you're choosing to go with Android, SGS 2 is one of the best phones you can get, no doubt about that. So good luck!

Congrats avas, ive been using one for a few weeks as well (not mine btw) and seems like fun.

Battery life is a concern though, but Samsung offers a higher capacity 2000 mah battery which increases the battery life by a few hours.

In any case, you can always underclock/undervolt the processor a bit to increase battery life further, the speed is more than enough anyway (but its never enough is it)

    thanks...

About battery...It actually lasted 4hrs of heavy uses after it was bought. It had around 40% charge then. So i am satisfied. Compared to Nexus S and Desire its really good.
