If you want your 6GB to be recognised by windows 7 ,then its mandatory to use 64bit otherwise u will just see 3.5GB ram (thats the maximum 32bit of any windows support). The rest of the RAM will just sit in the slot and do nothing. Is it too hard to format and install win7 freshly??

32bit OS can't utilize more than 3.2gb but that doesn't mean that a 4gb stick won't run on a 32bit OS. it will run but your pc won't use more 3.2gb.....
about formatting yah you need to format...you can recover data but most of the X86 based apps/games which are already installed in your system won't run on a x64 OS....

just get it from some one or buy from the market, otherwise just use 3.5GB out of 6GB util you get unlimited connection.

All games and all software that you use will work on 64bit, don forget I am using 64bit since 2009.

I already said in my previous post that he need to format and install win 7 64bit freshly so after that reinstalling all those games and soft will definitely work.

If I were him I'd sell off the 2GB and buy a pair of 4GB, so I'll have both Dual Channel Memory advantage and no need for a memory upgrade for the next year or two.

As for the operating system dilemma, you can't upgrade over a X86 version of windows to X64 version, so you'll need to do a clean installation of windows X64, thus no hope of keeping your currently installed software unless you install the X64 windows on a different partition and keep it as dual boot, and 85% of softwares and games should work on windows X64 platform, you might need to download additional drivers/updates/patches for certain softwares to work properly on X64 platform, and the 32Bit applications will not benefit from the larger memory that's available on X64 windows.

There 's a crack that will let you utilize >4gb RAM in win7 32bit. At first i thought it would only show the whole memory as available under my computer, but later i figured that I was able to utilize the total 4GB (3.2gb usable b4 patch) after installing this thing. You might want to give it a try if u don't want to format first.

They will. Backup the registry, restore it on the new OS, leave the %appdata% folder as it was and I can bet anything that whatever ran before will run.

Because you see, the abovementioned is what 'installers' do.

There's just one little problem with that theory, the directories are named differently on windows X64 thus half or more of the registry keys that were backed up from the X86 platform would be rendered useless as the paths won't match.

Not quite, there's only one difference and that is renaming whatever was pointing to Program files to Program files (x86). can easily be done with any sane text editor.
