After a lot of excited pointing at mountains and dogs, the PC Gamer office got chatting about the sneaky hints Rockstar have dotted throughout the new GTA 5 trailer.
You’ve probably noticed the narrator sounds a lot like Ray Liotta, who voiced GTA Vice City’s player character Tommy Vercetti. But the greying middle-aged man we see in the footage isn’t the only one in player-character situations. There’s also a shaven-headed youth in a car chase with the police, and a tattooed black guy running from a cop chopper. And hey, isn’t that all three of them together breaking into the jewellery store? Click below for a full size image of the evidence.
Chris Thursten points out that GTA IV used a deal gone wrong to link three characters that you ultimately ended up playing: Niko in the main game, Johnny Klebitz in the Lost and the Damned DLC, and Luis Lopez in the Ballad of Gay Tony. GTA V might give us a choice of three protagonists from the off, each with their own stories, and use this robbery as the flashpoint that links them.
It’d make for a more interesting story structure, and of course it would set them up beautifully for a co-op campaign that ties into the single player.

Ten Facts About San Andreas
The city and the game.
In the wake of today's Grand Theft Auto V announcement, we're taking a look back at Rockstar's last West Coast Grand Theft Auto Game.
In honor of San Andreas, here's ten facts about the famous fictional locale:
1
San Andreas is the largest GTA location with three cities, and eight counties. It features lots of fast-food joints and ammo shops.
2
In GTA: San Andreas, the city of San Fierro shows signs of a recent earthquake. Various radio news reports confirm that a quake had recently taken place.
3
The city of Los Santos features famous Los Angeles landmarks including the Hollywood 'Vinewood' Sign, the Watts Towers and the Capitol Tower.
4 San Andreas' gambling mecca is called Las Venturas, translated from Spanish means 'The Fortune'
5 Rural areas of San Andreas include deserts and redwoods and feature various stereotypical crazed rednecks.
6 The tallest mountain in San Andreas is Mount Chiliad, about 800 metres high, roughly the same as Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, just north of San Francisco.
7
The main bridges in San Andreas are the Gant Bridge, clearly modelled after The Golden Gate, and the Garver Bridge, modelled after the Forth Road Bridge in Edinburgh, Scotland. The GTA games are made in Scotland.
8
San Andreas includes a theme park called 'Glory Hole'. However, although mentioned, it is not physically evident.
9
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas includes many experimental gameplay oddities, including the threat of obesity (you had to work out to stay trim). It offered over 200 vehicles. The game featured mild RPG elements that were not repeated in later games.
10
In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, you could go sky-diving.

GTA 5: Los Santos confirmed, 'most ambitious Rockstar game ever' Online multiplayer and more detailed in Rockstar's official release
Rockstar has finally got around to announcing Grand Theft Auto 5, after the debut GTA 5 trailer exploded all over the internet last night.
The fifth instalment in the lucrative crime series is "the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created," claims the press release, which confirms that GTA 5's setting includes "Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches".
Rockstar parent Take-Two calls GTA V "a bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer," while confirming that its story will focus on "the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California."
Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar said of the announcement: "Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe. We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans."

Grand Theft Auto 5 rumour round-up. Dogs, digs, planes and BMXs incoming?
The dust has finally settled on the GTA trailer! You’ve probably watched it twice by now. So what’s next? Rumour and speculation of course. Absolutely loads of it. Tom’s multiple protagonist’s theory is still holding up. Eurogamer take the idea one step further, implying that the three character’s featured could be Tommy Vercetti, Niko Bellic and Carl Johnson. It’s a neat idea, but one that doesn’t quite fit in with the previous game’s timelines. The trailer’s main character could still be an older an older Tommy Vercetti though, even if Ray Liotta’s agent has confirmed with IGN that he’s not returning for voice over duties.
I’ve embedded the GTA Vice City trailer below for comparison purposes. Tommy or not, the chap in the GTA 5 trailer definitely has a rounded, better textured head, which is reassuring.
There’s also a theory that the homeless guy featured in the trailer could be a subtle dig at Nico’s voice actor in GTA IV. He expressed dissatisfaction at the wage he received for the voice over work when speaking to the New York Times a few weeks after the game’s release. He didn’t take a hit at Rockstar directly though, saying: “But it’s tough, when you see Grand Theft Auto IV out there as the biggest thing going right now, when they’re making hundreds of millions of dollars, and we don’t see any of it. I don’t blame Rockstar. I blame our union for not having the agreements in place to protect the creative people who drive the sales of these games.” Fair enough.
Here's the homeless guy that features in the trailer. You could mistake him for Nico at a glance.
This is Michael Hollick, Nico's original voice actor. He likes money, but seems like a reasonable chap.
Dog alert! One of the first scenes in the trailer features a silouette of a four legged beast, which we can almost definitely confirm is a dog. Will we be able so shoot it? Or possibly skin it using Red Dead Redemption’s tech? One can only hope.
You're thinking about shooting the dog aren't you? Sicko.
The music in the trailer is the title track from The Small Face’s album, Odgen’s Nut Gone Flake. It’s probably just in there because it’s an emotive tune but interestingly enough, their album cover is a parody of an old-fashioned tobacco tin. Just like almost every item in GTA.
I can imagine this being a brand of tobacco in the GTA universe. Cool album cover regardless.
L.A. Noire’s facial tech will almost definitely feature, although we were struggling to see any evidence of it so far.
Real Estate, gyms, and flying things like jets and blimps are also visible in the trailer. Expect the return of buyable houses, customisable avatars and flyable planes. While we’re on alternate forms of transport, check out the two wheeler propped up against the house. That ain’t no car people…
That's almost definitely a BMX. They kicked ¤¤¤ in San Andreas.
There’s also some speculation on GTA forums.com about a release date. It involves a lot of intimidating maths and more speculation than even I’m comfortable with. They seem to settle on May 24, 2012. HMMM.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Real or Fake? Grand Theft Auto V Map
A blurry photo has surfaced on Twitter this afternoon which the owner claims is a legit leak of the Grand Theft Auto V map.
Twitter user TorontoJack233, who currently remains unidentified, published the photo saying "I wonder what my boss would do if he found out? Good job I resign in 2 weeks. Nice to do something good before i go." The photo shows areas of Los Santos and Vinewood, two locations Rockstar confirmed are in the game this week in the announcement trailer and press release.
Rockstar officials have not responded to requests for comment at this time. We'll update this story should we hear back.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Rumor: GTA V information leaks out of UK magazine
Supposed details regarding Grand Theft Auto V have “leaked” from someone claiming to work for a PlayStation-focused magazine based in the UK. The rumored information was posted on GTAForums, and if any of this information is true, which it’s hard to know for sure at this point, expect a few spoilers out of it. Therefore, if you wish to remain clean of mind, body, and spirit, proceed with caution below the break.
GTA V Leaked Details:
According to the forum poster, via NowGamer, the information came to him from co-workers at the magazine which were given a 30-minute look at GTA V at Rockstar North a week before the first trailer aired.
“The mag I work for will be running a GTA 5 special in it’s January issue,” claimed the magazine employee. “They saw this footage on Monday of this week before the trailer aired and are currently under a strict embargo but talk flowed out of the office and hence why I am posting here.”
While admitting never to have seen the footage firsthand, the employee said the following information - pulled “as is” from the post – was gleaned from those who were given a look at the game :
The game world is absolutely massive and will push both Xbox and PS3 to the very limit in terms of what it has accomplished. Yes, the main city is simply Los Santos however is it AT LEAST 4 times bigger than Liberty City in GTA 4 and that is just Los Santos. The surrounding country side, beaches, etc are massive. For instance, we saw the main character (an African/American, early 30′s) travel by car from the center of Los Santos into the wildnerness and it took over 15 minutes. The views were incredible from farmhouses with cattle, huge wind farms, an oil refinery which appeared to be living and breathing with nearly 100 NPCs working on machinery, operating vehicles, lifting and loaded, etc, unlike the gas works in GTA 4 which seemed to only house a few NPC at a time. The forests are more beautiful than those in RDR and featured people camping, young NPC drinking and dancing around campfires, people riding dirt bikes and jumping over logs, streams, etc. The water effects, forna, plants, trees all looked beautiful.
The shooting mechanics have been greatly improved with animations for diving, climbing, rolling and crawling all added for better realism. The re-loading animations for new ammo also look cooler, less static.
There is much more climbable elements in the world such as ladders, overhand climbing, etc.
There are animals in the game from dogs to cattle but at this time it is not confirmed if you will be able to harm the animals. Rockstar were able to get away with it in RDR as it was a true depiction of the world in which the game was set. Allowing dogs/cattle to die in a game sent in current times may cause headaches with PETA. Its unclear if Rockstar were joking here.
There are planes to pilot and they can be crashed into buildings if you choose to do so….
Rockstar have included many, many more interior locations such as a shopping mall, college campus, police station, a huge hospital and there is also a vast underground sewer network which one mission later in the game involves a jet ski chase that culminates in a Fugitive-esque waterfall jump ( there are nods to the ridiculous but awesome Ballad Of Gay Tony missions)
The city is full of NPCs jogging, weight-lifting, hitting on women, being chased on foot by cops, shopping, washing cars, fixing fences, moving home, filling up their cars, etc.
The following is a list of what the employee called the “real juicy info”:
Cars can be upgraded/repaired and it has been considered to have a car have fuel forcing the player to fill her up.
The dating aspect of the game is gone. You still have a cell-phone but only people you will meet in the game will call you to ask you to do a mission or to ask you to do something else before the mission.
Weapons include the usual arsenal you’d aspect but the flamethrowers, remote mines, laxer trip mines and claymores are included. It is possible now to pick up random objects in a street/buidling to use as a weapon. There is also a museam where it is possible to steal old age swords, axes, etc.
It is possible to rupture a fuel line and if you shot at the trail of gasoline it will lead straight back to the car blowing it up.
Mini games such as bowling, darts, etc have all gone. You can play basketball, weight train, arm wrestle, gamble and cage fight, enter triatholons, water races, cannoing, ab-saling, rock climbing, base jumping, ski diving. More to be confirmed.
Character customisation is back but only in terms of clothing, body weight, etc. The player you start off which, much like CJ, can’t be altered by race, age, height, etc.
Rockstar said burglary missions may return but only as part of missions and not on neigbourhood houses.
No children NPC at all. Ever.
There is now an ability to grab people and use as sheilds or in “hostage” situations.
The cops are much, much, much more realistic. If you kill somebody when you know there are no cops around you will not run the risk of a one star as often as you would in GTA4. The cops will use smoke and tear gas, dogs, riot gear and rams to knock down the doors of buildings you are hiding in.
You can enter some buildings and lock doors, push objects in the way to barricade.
You become better at things as the game progresses. If you only ride motorbikes then you will increase your skills, same as individual weapons.
Certain weapons can be customisable and some even home-made.
One mission involves breaking out a very familiar GTA icon from a previous game…
Torrential rain fall and sunshine and even tremors will appear in the game.
Both Future and Imagine Publishing have said the information did not come from employees who work at each respective outlet’s PlayStation Magazines.
Also, yesterday we noticed, like a quite a few others, that someone claiming to be a former Rockstar employee posted a shot of GTA V’s map via Twitter. We took screen grabs just in case they were taken down, and you can look at those below.
It is unknown whether the shot of the map is legitimate, but the Twitter account used – which we also took a grab of yesterday afternoon – was not doctored by any Internet fellas.
GTA V was formally announced earlier this week. Platforms and a release date have yet to be confirmed.
