Default Leisure Suit Larry (Working Title)

Leisure Suit Larry Returns With Al Lowe's Support

Larry Laffer is an icon from the golden era of adventure gaming, but the series' recent appearances have been disappointing. Thankfully, the future is looking better for Larry.

According to EGM, developer Replay Games has obtained the rights to Leisure Suit Larry, and will kick off a revival of the character with an HD remake of the first game, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. The game will hit on "every platform Replay can figure out how to port it on," like XBLA, PSN, PC, and iOS.

Assuming that the remake performs well enough, the team at Replay has plans to remake the other games in the series, and even create new adventures for the lovable loser Larry.

One of the (many) reasons that the recent Larry games were awful was the lack of participation from series creator Al Lowe. That mistake won't happen again. Replay Games' CEO Paul Trowe has secured Lowe's assistance for the studio's upcoming Larry-related projects. “Al and I are working very closely on this, to make sure every Larry game is the best," says Trowe. "The remake of the original Leisure Suit Larry is going to kick so much ¤¤¤, the entire world will have to play it standing up. And buy new pants. And a cushion. Seriously, we’re really excited about this.”

Don't make the mistake of assuming that Larry games were all about sex. They were extremely funny, and had clever puzzles to boot. The return of Larry in classic form is great news for gamers.

The remake is set for a release sometime in 2012, which happens to be the series' 25th anniversary.
