AMD FX 8150 Looks Core i7-980X and Core i7 2600K in the Eye: AMD Benchmarks

The bets are off, it looks like Intel is in for a price-performance shock with AMD's Bulldozer, after all. In the press deck of AMD FX Processor series leaked by DonanimHaber ahead of its launch, AMD claims huge performance leads over Intel. To sum it up, AMD claims that its AMD FX 8150 processor is looking Intel's Core i7-980X in the eye in game tests, even edging past it in some DirectX 11 titles.

It is performing on par with the Core i7-2600K in several popular CPU benchmarks such as WinRAR 4, X.264 pass 2, Handbrake, 7Zip, POV Ray 3.7, ABBYY OCR, wPrime 32M, and Bibble 5.0. AMD FX 8150 is claimed to be genuinely benefiting from the FMA4 instruction set that Sandy Bridge lacks, in the OCL Performance Mandelbrot test, the FX 8150 outperforms the i7-2600K by as much as 70%. Lastly, the pricing of the FX 8150 is confirmed to be around the $250 mark. Given this, and the fact that the Core i7-2600K is priced about $70 higher, Intel is in for a price-performance shock.

980x was already being beaten by the 2600k in some tests, so the 1000usd processor thingy is merely a marketing scheme. Akhon ja bujtesi, BD won't be very different from SB, only slightly better. But for BD to truly shine over SB, apps need to use all of its cores, and that isn't happening anytime soon, especially in games.

Tao abar egula AMD'r e slides, so 8150 should be favored in some ways more than the Intel processors. Dhuro aro bhalo hoile ki hoito

    ---------- Post added at 03:19 ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 ----------

Allah e ki dekhlam. 980x vs 2600K in gaming is not much of a difference, kintu 1st slide ta matro kheyal kore dekhlam. Look at the scaling, the difference between 980x vs 8150 is <10%, not even 5% in some of those games!

Edit: haire last slide e je price comparison kora, memory block ta Intel 980x e ato boro cause triple channel memory lage. Put a 2600k/2500k in there and I doubt it would be a substantial price difference.

The different isnt much, but it is wat to be expected. 8 core ~250$ with cheaper mobos and support for newer models that will fit in those sockets unlike intels.

Investing in AMD system is more efficient.

IF only the apps being used is properly threaded, which in all honesty, is unlikely. At least for the very near future, apps would properly use quad cores instead of octal cores, and this is when AMD will lose.

I would disagree on this, BD(Bangladesh) lol theke jokhon PC kinar plan kortesilam, tokhon I had two choices: Core i3 vs Phenom X4- both of them were priced same, but coming from an E8400, I didnt want a dual core again. I invested in AMD, they rarely change their sockets, it's rumored that 890FX/GX chipsets will also support BD(Zambezi) & those motherboards are already 1-1.5yrs old.

I'm really not happy with these benchmarks, after all they are AMD's & AMD would favor their own chip in some way or another! I'm waiting for some real benchmarks, which shows what the chip is capable of, be it overclocking, clock for clock comparison, game/app benches!

If these benchmarks are true & that BD is close to 2600K, then people would favor BD vs the Intel counterpart! Reason ? Cheaper/Future proof/Less socket changes, more upgrades down the road.

What Giddy bhaiya said is right, you invest in an Intel now, you are bound to change boards, as they upgrade their sockets, which ain't the case with AMD!

To be Frank AMD is right. RAW CPU power (Or at least single Thread performance) is getting less and less important. THe number of Background application/services is increasing day by day.

Right now. I have A firewall, Antivirus, game, Media player, Opera, firefox, Chrome, Garena & Dont know wat other brackground services are running. Fact is, more cores is always better to have. you just proved my point -> "At least for the very near future, apps would properly use quad cores instead of octal cores, and this is when AMD will lose." It exactly why AMD is worth buying Its a better invesment cuz u dont have to switch to Octa Core when application make use of it.

True, It wont be able to beat intels future Octa Core when they get released but who cares, you should be satisfied that u can run that applications without dramatic performance loss (In Octa threaded application) which u bought years back PLUS that AMD mobo is upgradable with later AMD CPUs.

Welcome to Intel, innovation at its best- awaiting socket 2011 aww, those poor X58 users
Though they make the best processors in the market, & I really liked my E8400. AMD is just better in this field, one of the very reasons I did not go INTEL this time, makes me sad & happy at the same time

you need an AMD 990FX/990X board, they can do both 2-3way SLI/CF & cost like $135-$200+. Newegg lists my MSI 990FXA- GD80 at $180, which is like 2k less comparing to what UCC charges & it's much better to get it from BD where RMA wont be an issue!
Bulldozer Zambezi FX8120 would more likely go against 2500K, but I would hold off until some indepth benches.

I know about the socket changes, but the next BD won't be here at least 1 year from now. And next time when I do decide to upgrade, I won't mind buying a new MOBO because by that time there will be newer things like PCIE 3.0, more USB 3.0 ports, better UEFI and what not, so who would upgrade and want to miss out on these things.

And by the time octa core apps become mainstream this FX series will be way too underpowered, not everyone is happy by 'just' running the apps lol. If you want performance levels of that time, then you need hardware of that time.
