Default Sega Plans To Resurrect Classic Franchises

Sega has been riding its blue hedgehog for so long, we’ve almost forgotten about many of its other properties. But Sega claims it never forgets, and it says we can expect to see several of its old properties reinvented in the coming years.

In a recent interview with VG247, Sega West president Mike Hayes said, “We constantly review the IP we’ve got in the locker because that’s one of Sega’s big advantages…every month, we review the locker of IP and think, ‘how could we release those and if so, what are we going to? Will it be a big game, digital, free-to-play?’ We constantly look at it. What I can say is that you will continue to see a reinvention of classic Sega IP coming to various platforms over the next three-five years.”

Sega is already planning a new Shinobi for 3DS, and we hope that game can reinvigorate the dormant franchise. We’d also like to see Sega return to a few of it classic franchises such as Ecco the Dolphin, Panzer Dragoon, and Jet Set Radio. But if Sega is going to pull another Golden Axe: Beast Rider on us, then forget about it.

aanyways, Sega will resurrect Virtua Fighter 5

Definitive version of Sega fighter set for downloadable debut on Xbox 360, PS3 next summer; roster to see return of VF3 sumo wrestler Taka-Arashi, debut of Jean Kujo.

Sega has made a habit of tinkering with its Virtua Fighter series of fighting games, and the latest full installment in the series, Virtua Fighter 5, has been no exception. The original Virtua Fighter 5 debuted in arcades in 2006, with the PlayStation 3 release bringing its second revision to Sony's console in early 2007 and the Xbox 360 edition capturing the game's third revision later that year. Now the definitive version of Virtua Fighter 5 is finally set to follow its predecessors to home consoles.
Sega today announced Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with a summer 2012 release window. Described as an update and expansion to previous versions of the game, Final Showdown will debut as a stand-alone downloadable title on both systems. In addition to new modes, arenas, and customizable character items, the game will add two more combatants to the game's roster. Virtua Fighter veterans will welcome the return of Virtua Fighter 3 sumo wrestler Taka-Arashi, while those eager to try out a new style can look forward to the debut of Jean Kujo.
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown will also feature online multiplayer action for both systems. Sega is promising "little to no latency" for online matches, with leaderboards to keep track of rank. For more solitary fighters, Final Showdown will also include a new single-player mode where players fight "an army of opponents" on their own.
