I love guitar hero and I want to play it in my PC. So I started my home work and now that’s what I get.
How to play Guitar Hero 3 Aerosmith ( PC Versions ) with Xbox 360 Rock Band Guitar Controller
Hardware and Software I used:
- Guitar Hero 3 Aerosmith (PC version): From IDB Bhaban. Price 90tk or less. You can also download it from internet. Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock (PC version) also works fine.
- Xbox 360 Rockband Guitar:I bought from Boshundhora City for 5700tk. They ask for 7000tk. The actual price is something like 20$.
- Xpadder 5.3 (Free version ):Download it from internet. Xpadder5.3 worked nicely with my Windows XP SP3. I didn’t test it in Vista or Windows 7.
After installing the game please confirm that you can play GH:A with your Keyboard. Exit the game and follow the instructions.
Step 1: Installing the Guitar Controller
Connect your guitar to PC USB port. If you are using windows XP SP3 then you’ll have no trouble. WinXP will automatically detect your Guitar Controller as Harmonix Guitar for Xbox 360. For testing go to
Start> Setting >Control panel>Game Controllers>Test. While you are testing you may notice that the Guitar controller
Buttons are like
Green – Button1
Red – Button2
Yellow – Button4*
Blue – Button3*
Orange – Button5
*We’ll fix this later with Xpadder
Step 2: Guitar Hero Aerosmith Keyboard Setting
Run the game. Wait For loading, Press Keyboard Enter. Remember Don’t Press any buttons on Guitar Controller*. Go to Option>Controllers>Config Keyboard. Change the setting as shown. This configuration will allow you to play more effectively. Now Exit the game using Esc. In next step we’ll use these Keyboard keys in Xpadder.
*If you press any button from the guitar, the game will recognize the Guitar as your Player 1 Controller and guitar will become the default controller instead of Keyboard. We cannot let it happen. So keep your fingers off the guitar.
Step 3: Xpadder Settings: Run Expadder. Click the joy-pad icon on the left top of the Xpadder window and then select settings. Controller Setting Window will appear.
D Pad: Select D pad tab at the bottom of the Controller Setting Window. Enable D pad check-box. Now use your
guitar. Strum up ->UP
Strum Down ->Down
D pad Left->Left
D pad Right->Right
Buttons:Now its time for frets buttons. Select Buttons tab just next to D pad tab on the Xpadder Controller Settings. Now use your guitar. Press Frets according to the following sequence.
Green Fret (Button 1)
Red Fret (Button 2)
Blue Fret (Button 4)*
Yellow Fret (Button 3)*
Orange Fret (Button 5)
*The sequence is important to swap the 3rd button with the 4th . Now map Start and Back Buttons in the same way.
Whammy Bar: go to sticks tab in the Xpadder. Enable Stick1 But don’t map it. We need Stick2 not Stick1. Click Stick 2 sub tab. Map the buttons as follows
Pull Whammy bar closer to the guitar ------------------------------> Left (Whammy)
Release Whammy bar (its always pressed by default)----------> Right
Tilt the guitar*-----------------------------------------------------------> Up (Star Power Release)
*Guitar has a motion sensor inside. It works like a POV (Y-Rotation).
Go to Finish tab>Close.
Assign Keyboard's Keys:
By now you can see all the buttons you mapped in the XPadder main window. All you need to do is click on each button and assign corresponding Guitar Hero Aerosmith keyboard button for them. Its very easy and quick. Now save your Profile and setting. Minimize the XPadder. We’ll need to use xpadder running for the emulation.
5. Run Guitar Hero: A. Wait for loading and don’t press any button from guitar. Use Keyboard to go to main menu and select quick play. Select your difficulty and press enter. From now on you can use guitar to play the game. Have fun
(Please let me know if it helps. Any suggestion is appreciated. My next target is GHA Multiplayer. ......Guitar vs Keyboard. )
