Default After Google+, Microsoft to launch its own Social Network? [Rumor]

Following the success of such social networks like Twitter (even if this one is considered as a micro-blogging platform, it is still viewed as social interaction environment) and Facebook, and short after the release of Google+, Microsoft seems to be the next giant to launch a social project, albeit there’s no sure and definite information whether it will be a network or a social search project.
At this point, it would make more sense to release a social search engine then to come up with yet another network, when the battle between Google and Facebook has started to gain new scales. A smarter move would be to benefit from this fight and it appears that Microsoft will be collecting the crumbs in a quite intelligent way.

Social Network or a Social Search Engine?

The information is not official and it seems that the leak of details was nothing more than an accident. The project, still at an incipient stage, was due to remain secret, but details about it were found on another site, Socl.com. They were quickly removed and replaced with an explanatory note, saying that it is an internal design project that was mistakenly published t the web.
From what was noticed, it seems that the project – called TULALIP – features a Social Search service, allowing people to find and share information on social network sites, using a Bing search engine and log-ins for Facebook and Twitter. And since the required log-ins are the two above, the project is most probably not a competitor of the current social networks, nor does it offer the same services.

According to Gizmodo’s Kat Hannaford, the integration of the Bing engine, and the presence of “find” and “search” might be an evidence of the fact that Tulalip is a social search website more than a social network one.
However, it wouldn’t be very difficult for Microsoft to create a giant social networking website, Peter Bright from Ars Technica points out. They already have the necessary tools, he argues, since Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail are used by millions on a daily bases. With the right network, they could easily build a network that would even threaten the giant Facebook.
But, then again, why would you need to be part of so many social networks. It’s not like your new friends will be on Google+ and not on Facebook. On the other side, the fact that Facebook isn’t that keen to stick to privacy rules and if we recall that Zuckerberg once referred to Facebook users as “dumb f**s”, then I guess their supremacy is really threatened. And when they’ll go down the doom valley, Google+ will convert the “lost sheeps”. That’s where Microsoft could step in as well.
