Default Internet Explorer 9 Is Most Secure Browser when it comes to blocking Malware

Internet Explorer 9 has won the Malware Blocking tests, proving to provide the best protection against the social – engineering attacks, as tests undertaken by NSS Labs point out. According to them, Internet Explorer is superior, from this point of view, to the similar browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Safari.
I have to be frank with you, guys – I really, really didn’t see this coming and I guess you’ll all agree with me on this. The previous Internet Explorer “saga” has made a bad reputation for itself precisely because of weak security and poor resistance to viruses, malware and other digital threats.

Stats Say Internet Explorer 9 Is Safest Browser

Nonetheless, the statistics showed that, during 19 days test of malware blocking, IE9 achieved a phenomenal blocking of 90%, while its competitors, Safari, Firefox and Chrome were only able to reach a 13% rate, leaving Opera 11 on a shameful last place with only 5%.
Moreover, when IE 9 was assessed, the results put the browsers in an even worse light, as the Internet Explorer 9 version achieved a blocking rate of 100 percent! Hard to believe, isn’t it?

What Makes IE 9 So Efective Against Malware?

It seems that Explorer’s positive results are due, in a great measure, to two technologies: Smartscreen URL Filter, present in both versions, and SmartScreen Application Reputation, featured only in IE 9, which provides download block protection to users. On the other hand, the reason of its competitor’s not-so-successful results is the fact that Chrome, Firefox and Safari use Google’s Safe Browser Feed checking system, which apparently is less efficient.
It’s premature to say, but, this small fight between Microsoft and Google has been won by the Windows makers. It’s pretty unbelievable, if we consider the fact that Google has the Chrome OS, which has to be very secure, as all user’s data rely on it.
The average time of reaction to attacks was also measured, and it set Safari on the first position, with 4.94 hours. The second place was occupied by Google Chrome with 6.87, followed by Firefox with 7.88 and Internet Explorer 8 with 13.95. The winner of the blockage tests, IE 9 needs an average time of 15.91 hours to block an attack, while Opera 11 again occupied the last place, with more than 48 hours.
