Well comex is in the final stages of fixing bugs in his JailbreakMe. IPad 2 should be jailbroken within a week. My vote goes for the iPad 2. The Apple app store still has an advantage over the Android marketplace.

I don't know about Galaxy Tab.
But only reason that might make you buy an iPAD 2 is it's touch screen and display quality. Nothing else. Everything else is a ¤¤¤¤.

the tablet market is still dominated by ipad. Android is just beginning in dat segment. So u wont find many native apps compared to iPad apps. I wud suggest u to go for ipad 2.

I personally got my hands on a Galaxy S 10.1 a week back. It is an awesome thing. Mostof the features are equal or better than an ipad 2. Also, If you compare the price, its a lot cheaper...around 55k.

Won't need to spend money on apps, comex is in the final bugfix stages of JailBreakMe3.0. Check his twitter, he's even provided some twitter users with a beta version of the software.

    Galaxy tab 10.1

Unless you really need the apps made for the iPad2, the tab 10.1 is better IMO. Also, many people around here are reporting the same backlight bleeding issues with Ipad2, ive seen one myself. Tbh, you wont go wrong with either one

Default Re: Shall I go for an IPAD2 or a galaxy tab

The GUI of the iOS is what has kept Apple on top of the others in the mobile and tablet segment. The iOS always felt like a finished product since the 1st iphone, despite all the security measures and restrictions imposed on it. Android-based phone manufacturers on the other hand have always been running behind desperately to catch up boasting on the feature lists and specifications, but till today have not yet managed to provide a completely lag free and resposive package. And the Android market although may seem to be a huge leap forward for someone who has jumped up the ladder from a Symbian platform, is actually ages behind in terms of what the APP Store has to offer. The only advantage is that the Android market still (not for long, this is to attract consumers till they are consumed by the store themselves..) has many free products to offer, but then again if you have a jailbroken iOS device there actually is no limitation to the possibilities on it.

There are a lot of of reasons as to why ppl hate Apple - most actually can not or aren 't wiling to shell out that amount of money on a device that has hardware clocked similar to devices from other manufacturers costing half or three-quarter as much, some are driven away by Job 's arrogancy, some are stupid enough to compare a 3GS to a Galaxy S and scream that Apple is lacking behind (ignorant of the fact that the 3GS was released decades back and was never meant to compete with the Galaxy).
True that Apple devices have always been expensive, and Steve Jobs has made the marketing scheme such that not everyone could become an Apple consumer (which in my opinion is fine, it does feel a lot better to stand out 'f the crowd even as a consnumer). But their gadgets have always been worth the premium, face it, if not now you 'll have to someday when you 'll realize how stupid all that whining was.

I was in love with Android since the Hero, and kept boasting that Android and HTC were soon about to outdo the iOS and Apple, it certainly seems such for a new consumer in the Android platform. Over the years, I have switched to almost all the single-core Android phones seeking for the one complete device before i headed for the Iphone4 and rested in peace. I 'll tell you one thing, an Android device can never be as lag free, smooth to the touch and responsive as an Apple device, sorry. No matter how many cores they put into that god damn thing the Android platform, even after all these years is still not mature enough to interact like the iOS does. Once you have had multiple devices you 'll be tired of keeping up with their trail, bcz no matter how much you 're willing to spend later on (which you'll once you 've developed a nag for them) you 'll just not know what to expect in reality.

I went back to the Galaxy S from an Iphone4, just bcz my ipad arrived and bcz i had used it for the longest period than i have used any other phone or else i would 've not fallen back to Android again. I switched back bcz i realized that i was so biased towards the iphone4, i wasn 't keeping up with the Android segment and it 's developer 's community (and this is actually one place where android excels) and since i have the ipad i wouldn 't miss out Apple 's world either even if i cut the ip4 loose.
Now, I can upgrade to an HTC Sensation but i know i'll not end up where i want to be, part of the reason i 'll have to switch in a month or so when something better is available. On the other hand if the iphone 4S were out i wouldn 't think twice before getting 1, even if it were priced 1.5 times as much, bcz i know i could ride on it for a year or so.
This is the point i wanted to make. If you bought the IPAD2 you would be happy with what you got and if you get the TAB you 'll possibly switch it in less than 4/5months to venture for a new device and one point to be noted is that you can be sure its market price and resell value will go down like the IPAD2 's will not.

Now, let 's focus on the features and build of the devices in question.

    * Display : The IPAD2 has an IPS LCD display which is one 'f the best display types available in the market. If i compare the IPS of the ip4 to the AMOLED on the Galaxy S, the IPS type LCD has more neutaral colours compared to the oversaturated colours on the AMOLED,viewing angles are exceptionally gr8 and daylight visbility is stunning.
The TAB 10.1 has a PLS(Plane to line switching) type display which on paer states itself to be 10% better in all terms than the IPS type dislay along with twice as large viewing angles than the later. Daylight visbility although wouldn 't be as good as the IPAD2 of course.

    * Sound : All the recent iOS devices (ip4,IPAD,IPAD2) have set a milestone in terms of the sound output through the 3.5mm jack on any portable device which i believe will be difficult for the new TABs to rival, although the Galaxy S has previously proven to be a worthy competitor.

The loudspeaker on the IPAD2 is actually very good. I have one myself so i can confirm you on that. The speaker on the TABs are reportedly tiny and not very pleasing to the ear.

    * Battery : This is one segment where nothing will catch up with the IPAD2. I just can 't tell you how much balls this thing has got. I literally foget to charge it bcz i seem to frget that it requires recharging at all....! The Galaxy TAB will last around 45% less than the IPAD2.

    * User interface : Are you even bothering to read this line? You really think that sm1 might, just, for once edge Apple out on this? Huhh...! In your dreams.

    * Build Quality : Nothing can match the sex appeal on the Iphone 4, IPAD and IPAD 2. They seem to be made out of God 's hands. Once you hold them you 'll realize that the price you paid for them is actually too little compared to how they are built. Something carved so flawlessl should set you back a thousand dollars honestly. The IPAD 's body is all metal. The back of the Galaxy TAB is encased in plastic which definitely rips off the elegancy and finesse of a $500+ device. It is around 10% lighter and .01 inches slimmer, both of which are negligible.

    * Camera : You 'd be fool if you were to determine a tablet 's merits by it 's shooting fetures. Srry, i can 't help but criticize some1 who would be raisng his slate in public to snap a photograph. Still for the sake of it, both boast 720P video recording. The Galaxy TAB has a 3.15MP rear and 2MP front camera and the IPAD2 has a 0.7 and a VGA. And all these are pure BS at taking pictures, I'm not talking about the pixel count but im referring to the image quality, although the noise on the IPAD2 front camera actually helps to give an artistic effect sometimes.

Conclusion : For me, the IPAD2 is the best piece of technology money can buy. There actually can 't be a comparison. It has a league of its own. And what 's surprising is that for the first time Apple has decide to price their products unbeleivably low, i mean $500 for an IPAD2 16GB on its launch day..!!?? Can you believe that? Certainly didn 't except to see such humanity from Apple. I was so thrilled i got 4 of them ordered right in the first hour of launch, would have been the first minute if whole of America didn 't rush into Apple online store right then.

In the end, sorry for this long write up, but i often see some stupid ignorant kids saying a bunch of things about Apple products and their existence. What 's sad is that not even 10% of them have actually used/or could even afford a current generation Apple product but they brag like they have seen the world. The reality is that Apple brings about new evolution in technology, they have always been the first, they raise the bar, they invent, they set new standards, they have earned them a place from where they can claim themselves to be different/superior, and people who say crap about them ultimately quench their thirst and inferior complexity for not being able to afford Apple 's with some copycat cheaper alternative.

This isn' t from an Apple fan, but from some1 who has had the best from both worlds to make a proper judgement before making remarks like 'Apple makes xxxxx'/ 'Apple is xxx' or that i stands for 'idiot'. The truth is if you couldn 't apreciate the advancement in technology brought by them, you yourself are nothing but a blunt idiot.

As much as I hate to agree with @Hemlock , he's right, apple's been leading the technology always, and people have been stealing their concepts to stay in business, the revolutionary Microsoft Windows's GUI is a rip off of Apple Lisa which I believe to be the first GUI based commercial OS that featured a menu and window controls, and history kept repeating itself.

If you do not have experience in using an apple product I suggest you refrain from giving out statements such as these that aren't constructive in anyways, I don't think apple users have to worry about reinstalling their operating systems ten times a month nor do they need to think of possible software/hardware conflicts, furthermore their operating system is capable of taking full advantage of the current hardware provided by them which is something Microsoft's Windows can only dream of, the interface featured in windows vista/7 and the spotlighted "aero" also proved to be a cheap knock off from mac os X, yet some people would argue that apple isn't superior, quality doesn't come cheap, truth be told, but maybe from the perspective of our country, the apple products might seem irrelevent as piracy is our main concern and all we're looking at is how we'll be able to use illegal softwares that doesn't cost us anything, but that doesn't make apple obsolete now does it? True, you can't receive a song over bluetooth from another phone on an iphone or an ipad, but that's just their way of trying to protect other people's intellectual properties which helps them earn their livelihood, someday if you put effort in creating something and find it being ripped by people without giving you the due credit, you'll understand.

Ipad2 is the pick if you're considering quality, and premium, of course there's always other options, I am not forcing anyone to buy anything, all I'm trying to say is that the little extra you'll pay for apple products isn't worthless, but it's worth every cent, and as the OP stated he'd like to know which product is better, it's definitely Ipad2 and and not the galaxy tab, he didn't state anything regarding budget nor price over performance now, did he?
