Post How to connect your Xbox 360 to Xbox LIVE

I think it's time I wrote an guide on how to connect to Xbox LIVE and so here it is, now anyone who wants to connect to xbox live can benefit from this guide.

    What is Xbox Live?
Xbox live is an online multiplayer gaming and digital service created and operated by Microsoft. The Xbox LIVE service is available as both free and subscription based service, the free service is known as Xbox LIVE Free or Xbox LIVE Silver and the subscription based service is known as Xbox LIVE Gold, Xbox Gold is needed to play online.

What's the benefit of Joining Xbox LIVE: Now I don't wanna sound like a Microsoft Official convincing you to join Xbox Live, but once you join Xbox LIVE you'll definately step into a new height of online console gaming. Not only can you play online, but also download game demos, download patch for your games, check the market store and connect with your friends, but these things are only for silver users. Now once your an Xbox LIVE Gold user, you have access to several more things like online multiplayer gaming, xbox live parties, voice chat, facebook, twitter, zune, early access to demos and many more. And let me tell you again once you play online you'll never wanna stop and if you haven't been played online on console before, it'll be an absolutely new and awesome experience. Alright, enough with it, just join Xbox LIVE and see for yourself.

    Risk:
As always it is inevitable to have some risk when your playing online with pirated games. But along with the risk comes the huge amount of fun you'll get by joining Xbox LIVE. At the moment you should not sign up for xbox live, as you know there's a latest update on xbox live which enables ap2.5 on all the games and flashes the custom firmware back into a stock firmware. The risk is you'll get banned if your caught. So wait for the new LT+ 1.9 firmware and after that join Xbox LIVE. If you get banned your gamerscore and game saves will be corrupted, but there is a way to un-corrupt them.

But there are some ways to increase your chances of not getting banned.

    ● Always check before you do any sorts of dashboard update, and try to update from usb flash drive.

    ● Ensure you have the latest firmware before going online.

    ● Stealth Patch your games if possible.

If you follow them , then you should be 90% safe!

    How to Connect:
Now there are 3 ways of connecting to xbox live.

    1. Wired Broadband Connection: In this connection you just basically take the wired internet cable and connect it to the back of your xbox 360, and you may use router if you wish too, but using router a is recommended for having a stable connection.
Now lets say you have a PPPoe setting for a broadband connection, so how do you connect where do you enter the username and password? This is how you will do that
Goto: Xbox 360 Dashboard> System Setting> Wired Network> Configure Network> Additional Setting> PPPoE Settings, Now enter the username and password.

    2. Wireless Connection: In a wireless connection you just setup a WiFi or an adhoc connection, and use it to connect to your xbox 360, but now heres the catch. The old xbox 360 model (arcade, pro & elite) will require an extra WiFi adapter for the console, to connect to a wireless connection, but if you have one of those xbox 360 slim , then you need not worry as it have built in WiFi.

    3. Using a 3g usb modem: Now suppose you have the uch qubee modem or the usb banglalion modem, so heres how to connect with it, to connect with 3g modems you'll need an
ethernet cable, and you can't obviously just plug the usb onto the xbox 360 and connect online. So follow this guide to connect online with a 3g USB Modem.

P.S The ethernet cable that comes with the xbox 360 elite is ideal for this purpose.

    Recommendation for ISP:
Well I personally have used all the three methods possible, for signing into xbox live and I found using wired connection and a 3g modem as a better option over using a wireless connection. I've so far used bttb, zipbd, qubee and zoom ultra to connect to xbox live. So here's the list of connection I would recommend, in no particular order. BTW apart from these connection other connection might as well perform as good as the connection below.

    Recommended ISP:
    ● Link3 ● BTCL ● BTTB ● IS Pros ● Qubee & Banglaion (ONLY if your using the usb modem) ● Zip BD

    Not Recommended ISP:
    ● Zoom Ultra ● Qubee (Gigaset)

Minimum Speed Recommended for a smooth experience: 220kbps

N.B: As most of you already know, ping/latency is more important in online games, but I have no idea about the minimum ping required.

    What is NAT?

NAT or Network Address Translation is your medium of connecting with other players over Xbox LIVE. There are three types of NAT
    ● Open NAT
    ● Moderate NAT
    ● Strict NAT

Now, for a smooth experience you'll need to have at least an moderate NAT.
If you have a strict NAT, it'll take you more time to find a match in some games.
Games like COD, ACB will most likely not work on a strict NAT.

Now as you know previously I did not recommend Zoom Ultra & Qubee (Gigaset) for Xbox LIVE, and the reason is because of the strict NAT they have. But the uch Qubee modem has an open NAT.

How to have an Open NAT:

Most of the wired internet connection in Bangladesh has moderate NAT, so that is why I previously told to use a router for the wired connection. With the help of the router you can open the ports, Xbox LIVE need and hence have an open NAT.

    Ports Required By Xbox LIVE:
    ● Port 88 (UDP)
    ● Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    ● Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    ● Port 80 (TCP
    )

NAT does not affect the internet speed, nor is the NAT affected by the internet speed.

If you have a Strict or Moderate NAT, then you'll see this message during your network connection test

    Name: syssettings_testliveredbox.jpg
Views: 649
Size: 44.0 KB
Note: Xbox Live is very playable with a moderate NAT, I myself have a moderate NAT.

    How to Join Xbox Live:
Joining Xbox LIVE is very easy, just connect your xbox 360 to the internet, hit the guide button, and select join xbox live.

    How to Play Online:
As most of you already know, Xbox LIVE requires Gold Membership to play online. But first you'll get 1 month of free gold trial, when you sign up. During your sign up process, Microsoft will ask you to buy gold or to enter a code to redeem a gold membership, but if you ignore it, they'll let you know that your eligible for one month Gold.
Once you get the Gold, just start a game and play online.

Where to buy Gold Membership in Bangladesh:

Exclusive Game Zone in Basundhara City has 3 months of Gold Membership for tk1000.

Free Avatar Items As A Gift:

Once you've joined xbox live , feel free to redeem these codes as these codes can be redeemed a unlimited number of time.

I hope I've been able to solve all sorts of problem regarding how to connect to xbox live. So see you on xbox live, best of luck. If you have any further problem please don't hesitate to ask me.

@CvP , bro can you make it sticky?

    @Assassins Creed II ,
With redeem code you can mainly redeem Xbox LIVE Gold Membership and Microsoft Points, but redeem code may also be used to redeem avatar items, dlc etc.

swapping er kotha kemon ashlo?? I think 50% of the playbox games are stealth patched, but i don't really check whether they are patched or not, i just buy them and start playing...wait for the new lt+ 1.9 firmware then flash your xbox 360 with the new firmware, after that apply the update. Swapping isn't a wise idea if your gonna do that just for online gaming..

in that case keep playing on ur 360 n start saving for a ps3, the next major exclusive for ps3 is uncharted which doesnt come till november and even if psn is free but u still gotta buy the games for 3-5k.
