Default Bioware Working on Dragon Age III

Twitter post spills the beans on next game in the epic fantasy series

BioWare is on the hunt for staff to work on Dragon Age 3.

Alistair McNally, senior director of creative development at BioWare, said on Twitter: "I'm looking for exceptional environment artists to join me at #BioWare Edmonton, Canada to work on #DragonAge3 #gamejobs #jobs #3D #artists."

This was further retweeted by Christina Norman of the Mass Effect team, lending further veracity.

This is the first official confirmation that the sequel is underway.

While the game hasn't been officially announced, OPM rumours last month suggested a third title in the fantasy role-playing series is currently in production, complete with an all-new multiplayer mode.

Another game in the series always seemed like a safe bet. Launched in March, Dragon Age 2 went on to sell one million copies in less than two weeks.

Dragon Age 3 with multiplayer on the way, suggests OPM

The gears of Official PlayStation Magazine's rumour machine have been turning and according to the mag a third game in BioWare's fantasy role-playing series Dragon Age is currently in production, complete with an all-new multiplayer mode.

The rumor comes from the 'Inside whispers' section of the latest issue of OPM, which says: "More elf sexy time! Dragon Age 3 is on the way, with an added multiplayer component".

Another game in the Dragon Age series seems like a safe bet, of course. Dragon Age 2 made a strong debut in its opening week by debuting at the top of the official UK All Formats Chart and went on to has sell one million copies in less than two weeks.

However, the idea of multiplayer in the next Dragon Age is treading new ground for the series and BioWare as a developer. Both the Mass Effect series and Dragon Age have not yet had any sort of multiplayer, but the studio has expressed an interest in incorporating multiplayer in the future BioWare titles.

Co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka has said how "proud" the studio is of latest title, Dragon Age 2.

Dragon Age 3 To Mix "The Best From Both" Previous Games

Speaking to PC Gamer, BioWare CEO Dr. Ray Muzyka spoke a bit about what's to come for the Dragon Age series. Regarding the mixed reaction to Dragon Age 2, he said “It’s interesting because the first reviews – the number of the reviews was also very polarized, awesomely so. Lots of 90+ reviews, we also got fans that I think in some cases who were expecting more Dragon Age: Origins, and there was a misalignment of expectation there."

In terms of where the series is going next, Muzyka stated “What we need to do as developers is take that feedback from both sets of fans to heart and see about marrying that in future games in the Dragon Age franchise. I think that the team has actually got a great plan. I think the team is going to have some things that are going to surprise both sets of fans, both core fans and new fans with a marriage of these…the best from both games, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. And we look forward more to talking about that in the future.”

The next installment in the Dragon Age series most likely won't be seen for a while, but fans should feel comfortable knowing BioWare is listening to feedback on their previous titles.

Dragon Age 3 will 'surprise and delight,' promises BioWare
Next instalment to be "best of breed" marriage of Origins and II, says Muzyka

The next instalment in the Dragon Age franchise will "surprise and delight" both fans of the original game and its more accessible sequel, BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka has said.

Speaking to CVG in a just-published BioWare video interview, Muzyka said future instalments in the RPG series will try to present a "best of breed" marriage of both Origins' and Dragon Age II's gameplay styles.

"I think the team has actually got a great plan," the BioWare boss said of the future of the series, adding the disclaimer: "we've not announced Dragon Age 3 formally or anything."

He continued: "I think the team are going to have some things that will surprise and delight both set of fans - our core fans and our new fans - with a marriage, best of breed from both games, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. We'll look forward to talking more about that."

On critics of Dragon Age II's more accessible approach, Muzyka stressed his studio takes fan feedback very seriously and will be looking at the thoughts of both those for and against the last game in the series.

"One of our core values at BioWare is humility and that means we take feedback really seriously," he said.

"We know that the core fans who were expecting more Dragon Age: Origins [from the sequel] - we have to listen to them. We have to respond to that.

"We're not going to ignore it. We're going to take that head-on. But we also have an obligation to our new fans, the ones who we surprised and delighted with some new approaches, accessibility and intense action combat.

"What we need to do as a developer is take the feedback from both sets of fans to heart and see about marrying that in the future games in the Dragon Age franchise."
