MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is an emulator application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software on modern personal computers and other platforms. The intention is to preserve gaming history by preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten. The aim of MAME is to be a reference to the inner workings of the emulated arcade machines; the ability to actually play the games is considered "a nice side effect". (source: Internet)

This was the original Arcade Machine where we used to play title like ... aerofighter, king of fighters, street fighter, raiden, samurai showdown, cadillacs and dinosaurs (mostafa), 1942, twin cobra and many more.

Nowadays we can enjoy those games in our PC using some emulators and downloading the games (called rom) for online for free. U will enjoy it more if u do have a controller.

I am a big fan of these games. I had more than thousands of roms (though there are more than 6000 mame roms available). I lost all those unfortunately. I used to play in those Arcade Machines when i was a child. Still playing in PC using MAME.

I believe in this community there are many mame lovers who are playing or willing to play these games. I dream of building an Arcade Machine something like this http://www.tmsoft.com/article-arcade.htm
though i didnt like the disign, and i do prefer spherical joystick.

Dont want to break ur patience by writing too much. We better start the thread rolling.
    Thanx.

PS: Dear Moderator, plz put this thread to correct section. I missed the ARCADE section, thats why i started here.

First a I saw these machines in Shishu Park (running packman and space invaders). Then after two or three years (It was 1987 (AD )), I went to Bongshal with my father for some reason. there we found an arcade shop in a market. That was my first experience playing vdo games in an arcade machine. Though I had Atari and Nintendo experience before, but i was amazed when i had played in Arcade System. I still remember ... the game was CAPCOM's 1942.
I do play modern games in PC a lot and i like them too.
But those retro games are evergreen to me.

I got tons of MAME roms and I even complied my own version of mame optimized for amd cpus by myself, there're a lot of emulators and game dump from the arcade cartridges which are called roms that're out on the internet, but the truth is, most of the downloaded roms from several rom sites can not pass mame's crc pass because the rom dumps are somewhat different from what mame expects them to be, sometimes mame can still run the game if the rom not matching the crc is renamed properly, and sometimes it'll boot but the game will show corrupted graphics and lockups, this is why I decided to compile mame on my own with game drivers that matches the roms that I posses, mostly for the KOF franchise, this was the situation like from 5 years ago, and even now things hasn't changed much, but I still love playing Ninja in Usa, combat tribes, or the good old street fighter 2 on my pc, atleast I don't have to pay for it anymore

That is wonderful. We need resourceful person like u.
It will be very helpful for everyone if u share the roms with us.
And I am also interested in learning the tit-bits of rom and emulators.
Could u plz share some useful link.

Some old rom sets dont run on newer versions of MAME, but works perfectly on older Mame's. Why this is happening? Is there any way to overcome this problem?

If u dont have MAME, then download MAME32 - v81b
Run the exe file to install to ur sepcified location.
Then download Mario from here http://romhustler.net/rom/mame/6788/mario-bros-us
    and Contra (US) | contra.zip
Put these two rom files in roms directory like X:\Mame32v81b\roms
Now run the Mame32 exe file. Go to file--->Audit all games.

Click Available on the left explorer bar.
    U will see the games.
Right click on the game and go to Properties on the menu. Go to Controllers. Enable joystick input there (USB joystick must be connected)
    Now play it with joystick.

If u want to built an Arcade machine than built Taito Type X2 (or u can buy it). Then it will be technologically advance & u can even play KOF XIII & upcoming titles. BTW, I use Neorage X. I personally don't like MAME emulator.

The newer Mame versions doesn't support older roms simply because some of the good for nothing devs updates game drivers with newer and believed to be more accurate rom-dump files, which are sometimes hard to find or can't be found on the internet at all, unfortunately, I have lost some of my KOF backups thanks to bloody melody discs-surfaces wearing off on me, I still've the KOF 94-2003 covered on mame, Metal slug 1-5 and Metal Slug X, Samurai Shodown 1~5 including the special edition and different versions of ssv, got svc chaos:snk vs capcom, got kof neowave working on the emulator "Demul" And lots more good old Arcade games like Sunset Riders, X-men, Robocop, Superman, WWF wrestlemania, Mortal Kombat.. And lots more, I'll edit this post with useful links on how to complie mame and where to find latest roms later when I'm In Dhaka, right now I'm limited to m.banglagamer.com

    ---------- Post added at 18:07 ---------- Previous post was at 17:56 ----------

Oh and the kofxi and the newer kofs are based on a different platform for arcades, very similar to Sega's dreamcast console, so they are yet to be fully supported by mame and you can pretty much rule out the chance of being able to have smooth gameplay using mame without having a quad core processor as emulating these games requires a lot of processing, even a pentium d 3.0 ghz struggles to render street fighter ex2 on mame and can't keep 60 fps mark which is very important for arcade games, but there're always other solutions, there're dedicated emulators for games like kof neowave or street fighter ex, I recommend trying out the latest zinc emulator for street fighter ex and demul for kof neowave, although demul is still buggy, and you'll have to play around with the settings to make kof neowave playable without any corruption/hiccups. Kof Neowave is a remake of kof 2002 with a new combat system, uses the same character sprites from kof2002 and previous kofs.

    Thanx ll-r_o_m_u_l_u_s-ll
Thats a lot of information. I believe u can enrich this thread by your helpful words, links, suggestions and ideas.
These days I find very little time for these search and research things (job & family )
Though somehow manage some time to play these games
As I am a big fan of shmups, I have a good collection, and those run smoothly on older and newer versions of MAME.
I like SS, KOF, AOF, SF, MS, MK also (cant play that good, but enjoy playing)
    Waiting for your links.
I will be very glad if u share ur collections with us.
