Though it completes every thing someone may need to know but there also should be some room for custom questions.

No offense but "PC for listening to music"?? A mp3 player or a Mobile phone will be much more practical I think.

Obviously A PC can be used for critical music listening. Putting a Xonar Essence STX in your motherboard with a combination of Shure SRH840 can make your songs marvelous.

sound is always been treated as a subjective matter however even so, there is a huge gap of difference between a mere mp3 player's output/* even with a very good earphone */ and audiophile's sound system ... u will never distinguish the difference unless u experience any of the decent sound system by u're own ears but trust me, difference would be weighted with far more significance ...
like a gaming rig, a decent sound system also cost a lot which is why when someone will ask for an audiophile rig there have to be much more noticeable change in the suggestion ...

No offence but Audiophiles generally resort to high end CD players/Turntables. There arent many Audiophiles who use PC for listening to music, although a good DAC can solve the problems that PC's run into.
    FTW!!!!!!!!!!
