    Default DDR5 vs GDDR5

What is the difference between DDR5 and GDDR5? I took the help of Google but couldn't find any specific answer.
There is also a huge price difference between DDR5 and GDDR5 (~$50+). Is there any expert to tell the difference?

    Both are of GDDR5.

You'll get discount with Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1 GB DDR5 DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/Dual Mini DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 100314-2SR.

Basically Gddr 5 model probably has better memory chips with better overclockability and with lower latency times. But its basically still the same thing.

Areee, GDDR5 nd DDR5 are the same thing, it's just a marketing gimmick by retailer websites such as newegg nd other ones who just leave out the G in GDDR5 nd name it DDR5 in short :/ It's all the same in case of GPU's!

Greetings, found this ole post in google, and decided to reply on the basis nearly everything in it is incorrect and it shows up on google pretty highly for anyone typing in DDR3 vs GDDR5, basically there is no such thing as DDR5 as of yet, though it may well be on the distant drawing board, DDR4 is schedule for release this year, so the latest DDR is still DDR3 whilst traditionally used for graphics cards and whilst more expensive then DDR3, GDDR5 is infact an enhanced version of DDR3 with a different pin and interface configuration and 8-bit wide pre-fetch buffers, which is why its more expensive, whilst nothing DDR3 has GDDR5 lacks, GDDR5 has a couple of options DDR3 lacks, so its not the same thing but the extra bits it has make it perfect for use in graphics cards, however as the recent official release of most of the PS4 specs shows, there is nothing stopping a clever company from using GDDR5 as system ram in place of DDR3, and indeed economics of scale may make it cheaper in the long run then having separate system and graphics ram pools, and cuts down on on-board bus's, which may easily improve overall performance in a well designed system.
