Cool AMD Bulldozer Launch Date will Be June 7th at Computex!

A slide from motherboard maker Gigabyte has leaked out and it shows what many claim to be the official launch date of the AMD Bulldozer processor! According to the slide the new AMD CPUs will be launched on 7th June at Computex trade-show in Taipei, Taiwan. The AMD FX "Zambezi" processor retail box designs for the Bulldozer processors were leaked out nearly a month ago, so it doesn't come as too big of a shock that the release date has been leaked out as well.

AMD plans to release four eight-core AMD FX8000-series chips, two six-core AMD FX6000-series microprocessors and two quad-core AMD FX4000-series central processing units (CPUs) this year. Shipments of AMD FX-series high-end desktop microprocessors will commence on the week of June 20th, 2011, the same document indicated. The first breed of AMD FX8000, FX6000 and FX4000 currently known under Zambezi code-name will completely support all the advantages that the Bulldozer micro-architecture is supposed to bring, including new Flex FP floating point processing unit. The new chips in maximum eight-core configurations are projected - by AMD's internal documents - to offer roughly 50% performance improvement over Phenom II-series microprocessors in multimedia applications.

AMD FX Series and A Series First Performance Projections Surface
Here are the first performance projections of the AMD FX-series processors. FX-series is the market name of the latest line of 8-core, 6-core, and 4-core processors by AMD, based on its new Bulldozer architecture. The performance projections come from AMD's internal presentations to its industry partners, which was leaked to sections of the media.

In the performance projection, a compound bar graph, an AMD platform comprising of an 8-core FX series processor (unknown model, clock speed) with AMD Radeon HD 6670 discrete graphics, was pitted against its main competitor, Intel Core i7-2600K with its integrated Intel HD graphics. Perhaps AMD is suggesting that FX 8-core model used here along with a HD 6690 graphics card costs the same as a Core i7-2600K.

The tests used were synthetic, Futuremark PCMark Vantage and 3DMark Vantage P (performance preset). In PCMark Vantage, the AMD FX processor is shown to have performed the same as the Core i7-2600K. In 3DMark Vantage, the AMD platform with its HD 6670 graphics card outperformed close to 4 times over the Intel platform.

Interestingly, the AMD FX + HD 6670 platform appears to be just about 20% faster than a platform consisting of Phenom II X6 1100T and Radeon HD 6670, in both the tests. The other platforms in the graph include AMD's Llano A-Series APUs. They're slower than Intel's Core i3-2100 in PCMark Vantage, but faster in 3DMark Vantage.

Overall, it appears that with AMD's new processor lineup, AMD will continue to rely on performance per Dollar, rather than pure processing performance, to be competitive with Intel. No doubt the performance and energy efficiency seems to have gone up, but Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture is faster at whatever today's processors are meant for (x86 processing).

AMD FX 8110 Bulldozer Processor Runs 1024M Super Pi in 167 Seconds

A picture purportedly of AMD's upcoming FX 8110 'Bulldozer' processor is making some buzz today on the internet. It appears that a print screen of a Gigabyte test system has been leaked showing a PC running an AMD FX 8110 processor. From the screen shot it appears that the processor is running 3.8GHz w/ Turbo Boost. This processor is rumored to have a maximum TDP of 95W @ 2.8 Ghz and uses the upcoming AMD Socket AMD+3 (942-pin) motherboard. The CPU consists of 8 cores and 8 threads, 8MB of L3 Cache and an Unlocked Core. Instructions supported are seen in the CPU-z tab. The most interesting part of the leak is that Super Pi and wPrime benchmark scores are shown! The two benchmarks running in the background are Wprime v2.04 which records a score of 5.516 sec (32M) 166.895 sec (1024M) and Super PI score of 7.8 sec (1M calculations) 7 min 22 sec (32M calculations). The motherboard being used is from Gigabyte with model name GA-990FX-UD5. Gigabyte says that the screenshot is fake, but they could just be trying to do damage control. You decide! The screen shot is worth a look though at the CPU-Z log shows DDR4 1.2v memory and mentions Intel's upcoming Core i7 2650, 2700, 2800k processors. Good stuff! Click the image below to enlarge it and before you e-mail us, yes we think this is fake.

    Gigabyte CPU-Z 1.58.1gb Update Changes:

    • AMD Bulldozer processor new instructions.
    • AMD Zambezi, Valencia, Interlagos (32nm) support.
    • AMD 990FX/RD990 + SB950 chipset.
    • AMD AM3b/AMD+3 (black) socket detection.
    • AMD Turbo Core TDP mode detection.
    • NEW AMD logos / Tidy interface.
    • DDR4 1.2v preliminary support.
    • Add ID’s for future Intel 2650, 2700, 2800k editions.
    • Several bugs fixed.

    @eXsTatik

i know these benchmarks are anything but credible, but a little speculation never hurts! regarding performance, the bulldozer architecture has been long in the tooth if you know what i mean, the leap in performance for amd can only be so much. anyways. i really want them to do well, have a soft spot for amd, my 1st processor was a k6-2 300mhz.........becoming nostalgic now.........

the budget for intel's R&D is more than the budget of the whole amd company, so anything from amd's side is really a bonus for us. without competition, intel will rip us all off, it's business after all, not charity. though the pricing of the sandybridge cpu's esp. the 2500k caught me a little off-guard.

New AMD Bulldozer Slide show 4 New CPU Models

Four new FX-series processors based on the Zambezi architecture seem to be added into retail in September 2011 according to the slide down below.
Two of these chips, the FX-8150 and FX-8100, feature an eight-core design and have 8MB of Level 2 and 8MB of Level 3 cache memory, while the other two chips, the FX-6100 and FX-4100, packs six and, respectively four, processing cores.
The FX-series CPUs come with an unlocked multiplier and support DDR3 memory with a maximum frequency of 1866 MHz and AMD's Turbo Core 2.0 technology.
Clock speeds are ntor evealed but with AMD's naming scheme you can quickly do the math, the FX-8150 should be clocked higher than the 3.8GHz FX-8130P, while the other CPUs are expected to be slower than their soon to be released counterparts.
