Default Games to be recognised at Grammys

Recording Academy adds video games to the descriptors of four awards

Next year's Grammys will feature video games in four of the main award categories, giving the medium equal billing with film and television for the first time.

The Recording Academy has added video games to the descriptors of four awards - The Music for Visual Media, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Song Written for Visual Media - according to IndustryGamers.

"I think this could be viewed as a first step in the direction of video games getting their own category," Bill Freimuth, VP of awards at The Recording Academy, told the site.

"Many people from the game community have been asking us to create a special category for games over the years, but the main reason we haven't is because we have received very few entries from game publishers."

Steve Schnur, worldwide executive for music at EA, added: "This acknowledges that film, TV and games can stand side by side and be independently recognised. Hopefully, this will create an even playing field when people vote next year. I expect there to be a tidal wave of submissions from the game industry."

In February, Civilization IV's opening theme tune won a Grammy in the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists category.

Crysis 2 soundtrack is made by Hans Zimmer. Check his biography here. All of his works are awesome. And 42 soundtracks from Crysis 2 is one of his awesome work. But yes there are lots of games with insanely cool music/soundtrack. And its not sure whether Crysis 2 will grab it or not. Its just a possibility. I hope someday games will encounter among each other for grammy award.
