Default NFS: SHIF2 Unleashed : Feedback from RedViperZ

warning: game experience changes person to person therefore i(myself) or anybody can't be blame for anything.i am making this review as a deep analyzer for NFS from the beginning & as a professional wcg player. i therefore declare that my review will contain most neutral comment possible.
well at first i would like to start what actually lead designer Andy Tudor while he was questioned"How do you reckon Shift 2: Unleashed stacks up against Gran Turismo 5?"
& the answer was "we never were upto compete with GT5 or forza3,we just wanted to make a simulation fun racing game"
so,there goes the first answer shift 2 was never made to beat any of the top rated simulated game on console platforms.
    Physics:
now let's start with the physics. i have played GT5,forza3. & played enough to tell the difference. i will not lie but,shift2 didn't satisfied my demand. i was expecting more from shift2. even after it was a mid simulator. they could have done just a little bit good. for an example, i can explain the problem. u see on each sports car has 4 suspension mounted on their tiers. this is what is on real world. GT5 physics works so hard that u can actually physically feel & notice the 4 suspension individually working. but,in shift 2. it's like all suspension are working as same & the same time. just up & down. while u brake or turn or simply accelerate. even though real world do have bumps on the carpeting. that was well imported into GT5 but,in shift 2 i just see nothing.
    Graphics:
i don't know how much the quality u r getting despite of ur h/w. but,i have overridden all settings from the nvidia control panel.as in 32xAA,16xAF,8AT. still getting 40~60 avg 50.the hdr was done right. the self cast shadow was also done right. as in example u can really see ur own front roll bar when u r racing in night if somebody is behind u.if i fairly compare with GT5 & forza 3. i will comment it's way better than forza 3 & slightly lower than GT5(not counting the horrible pixel cut of GT5).Additionally you can see some awesome work done by slightly mad studio. like car self cast shadow, night lighting. for an example if your opponent(s) are behind you & it's dark in the night. you can actually see your own roll bars infront of you on the road while taking corner or side walls. another funny but realistic was the mosquito. while racing on the desert or an country side road like laguna seca or nordeshleif(nurburg circuit) you will probably spot a small red colored thing sitting sucked on your screen. don't worry it's dead & won't bite you. this is real & it happens in real life.
    Gameplay:
semi simulation. that's all i can tell. not up to the mark. night racing is very interesting. drift sucks big time. all though so far i played i enjoyed the hot lap of LEXUS LFA. man that car just looks so hottt @ night(cockpit view). A.I responses real time. just as it should be. car details are not good from outside. but, cockpit view is rather detailed. rear view mirror looks more cinematic & feels good unfortunately. unfortunately ea messed up with A.I on the middle of master events. like in wokrs or endurance you will probably feel that the A.I just got ubur strengths from the sky by somehow. & you will definitely feel that you are like a the weight of a paper & they weight like a solid 2 ton rock. they will do no mercy to ram you & get you out of the track. & once you fell into their trap there is no return. because you just can't catch up no matter how hard you play.
    So,the verdict on gameplay is:
    # A.I sucks
    # Car Physics should have more realistic
there is definitely no story on simulation racing. but, still master events like endurance,works,GT3,GT1 are some of the awesome events you can really enjoy on high performance cars. & take the ultimate opportunity to take the champions cars in each genre.
however the ending movie was kind of not charming neither appreciable. i mean come 'on. i came so far to beat the GT1 world champion. & he is just telling me "you can have my car". that's it!!!!!!!!!!
    Sound:
engine roaring sound is good. but,wtf....why i hear helicopter like sound when i maxed out the top speed? & did same mistake like shift no in race music. i have to run trance on the background with wmp to give me the feel of driving cars. but, menu tracks are good.
    Bugs so far:
#1.while i was playing on lotus. i see the rear view mirror, side mirrors completely gone blacked out.
#2.in quick race mode u can't play until u set ur opponent to 0 !!!!!!!!
#3.sudden loss of centering spring on logitech G25,G27 racing wheel
#4.sudden irresponsibly behavior of logitech G25,G27 racing wheel
    in summary:
pros: night racing mode, detailed cockpit, new helmet cam movement, better rear view mirrors.
cons: no lan,car physics not up to the expectation,no in race music.
The verdict: as i said @ the start of the review SHIF2 was never meant to be like forza 3 or GT5. but,the thing is it really is something to the pc platform. it's awesome by in many ways if we deduct the mistake made by slightly mad studio. that what makes it the promo quote"This Is Real Racing". this is definitely the best simulation available on pc except F1 racing. if you have time, patience & money to play with a wheel then i will personally suggest you enjoy racing on NFS world.

note: actually some of my friends suggested that it's almost impossible to play on KB. but,i didn't try. so,i will suggest if u r not into simulation racing this game is not for u. simulation games are made this way. they are made to let u feel what it actually looks & feels like in real world & trust me it's not so easy to drive a pagani zonda @ 427KMPH!
i hope this review will make important impression or whatever it's as u take.
thank you for giving time reading this review. have a nice racing weekend.
    Tips for players:
    # do not play this game on KB
    # do not play in cockpit view on high performance car. it's better controllable from outside view.
    # night racing are really tricky. so play them nicely.
    # if you feel tired being stucked by stupid A.I @ the middle of the master events. skip them. the A.I responses much better on GT3 & GT1 master events.

Nice review. You had the patience to tolerate the stupid AI that EA has created which is completely unacceptable to me.

Other than that, if you wanna have sim fun on your PC, go ahead and play this game. If GT5 had polished the graphics, it would have blown NFS Shift 2 out of the water. Still, car details are far superior than Shift 2 or any other game out there. In GT5, the cars looks (premium models ofcourse) and feels realistic ... and it has more detail like turning on/off the headlights, wipers are there to clean the wet wind shield, dust also gathers on the wind shield in GT5 and the whole environment lighting looks much better. Jagged shadows and edges are destroying the quality and cardboard-like trees and humans also.

Obviously, this thread is not for GT5 but I wrote the reasons why I'm not interested in this game. I'll again emphasize on the unacceptable AI which is the main reason I can't continue to play the game even being a Need For Speed gamer. So... I'm just gonna pass it.

playing with the keyboard is most definitely possible. Its challenging ofcourse and you need to tune the car in that way. I'm playing with keyboard with Elite Handling and all assists off. AI can be a pain in the ¤¤¤. They hold grudges . But If you don't hit any AI, they rarely hit you back. (at least in my experience so far). What I loved most is that you can save specific tuning for specific tracks. And tuning makes sense. I could get the exact desired result by just relying of my own physics sense. This is not a sim ofcourse. but its a very good semi-sim in my first impression. and I didnt know Pagani Zonda could hit 427km/h . are you sure thats accurate speed ?

yes Zonda can top 427km/h ...we tuned a Zonda F in shift which at tracks like Willow Spring, which is a high speed track, could top 400km/h

The game looked nice, still didnt play though, but funny how dirt 2 is still better than most race car sims in terms of graphics, and somewhat physics(well probably not as great as GT, but I can hell say its better than forza 3). I will try this game out though and if I do like it, ill buy the original. BTW Just got myself a Genius Twinwheel 900FF (cheapest 900 deg steering xD), all I can say is although better handling than my momo, steering is still ¤¤¤¤ hard .

LOL. Umm I was just saying as in the color combo is actually quite mind numbing, besides sunglasses indoors, LMAO Im pretty sure you do alot of that . All Im saying is that the game itself is quite good but I wouldve preferred the GFX and the physx to be better.[COLOR="Silver"]

I must strongly disagree...Genius wheel cannot be better than MOMO....Logitech makes the most premium racing gears you can efford...no other company does that

I will try this game out though and if I do like it, ill buy the original. BTW Just got myself a Genius Twinwheel 900FF (cheapest 900 deg steering xD), all I can say is although better handling than my momo, steering is still ¤¤¤¤ hard .

900degree does not make a better wheel. Those who use G25 or G27 locks the wheel within 90 degree or so for racing...900degree rotation is totally unnecessary....maybe your having better exp with Genius...but no racing wheel can come close to the sensitivity settings of any logitech racing products.......that's my opinion though....I hope shafiee007 won't disagree on that xD

well... I've been to the semis and also won a championship with my Genius Maxfire Dual Analog stick gamepad ... I made Genius legendary lol ... but I really don't have any idea how their wheel is... but seeing USSRxMrRaser, I can surely say MOMO is one of the top class wheels hehe

So you happen to know all g25/27 users ? Well maybe in bangladesh, anyhow thats not the fact 900Degree is useful, well atleast to me and the steering also feels more nice, and I got this for a half the price of the momo. MOMO cost me 12K back in early 08 and I ended up selling it for cheaps to "black neon". Ps if you know him, please let me know!
