Thread: GPU versus Memory importance in Graphics Card.

  1. #1

Default GPU versus Memory importance in Graphics Card.

I went shopping for graphics card and am very confused on how to buy the best card. With which card can I play all PC games available in the market at 1050-1080p resolution? I found a card Sapphire Radeon HD5570 2GB DDR3 memory. Also I found Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 1GB DDR3 memory. Actually most games have 1GB memory of the ones i saw. How important is memory? Is HD5570 card better than HD 5670 because it has more memory? Do games really need more than 1GB of memory?

GPU is more important than memory. Look, the 6850 1GB GDDR5 costs ~15K, where the 5570 2GB DDR3 costs ~7.5K. See the difference, HD5570 costs half of that of HD6850. And go for 5670 1GB GDDR5, it is gonna be better than 5570.

But games like GTA IV needs a good amount of VRAM.

aita onek purano BD concept. Akhono manush jigasha kore tomar AGP koto MB ? lol. Memoryr cheye chipset much much more important. As in ur case, 5670 will be better.

U can read abt comparison here

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/2935/5

See the game charts and notice results of both 5670 and 5570.

yeah as aayman said, neither is suitable for 1080p gaming. Even i find my Radeon 4850 1 GB underperforming at 1080p.

For 1050-1080p resolution gaming at the very least 5770 would be good. But if you are on a tight budget then 5670 is a good card. Both of these cards being 1 gb. And as every one before me said, the graphics processor is more important than graphics ram.

Most people think time is like a river, that flows swift and sure in one direction. But I have seen the face of time, and I can tell you, they are wrong. Time is an ocean in a storm. You may wonder who I really am, and why I say this. Come, and I will tell you a tale like none you have ever heard.

Nope all the 5 series got raped by the radeon 9 series. VRAM ONLY MATTERS WHEN your gaming at high res with aa on. Now lower end GPU's like 5670 not only lack the bandwidth but also the texture fillrate for that -_-, so a cheaper GPU with insane and useless amount of memory wont benefit you in any way.

My friend bought Sapphire Radeon HD5570 2GB DDR3. He tried the games 'Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light' and 'Trine'. When he tried to play in 1080p resolution it became slow. In Lara Croft when player came across a fire animation it became horrible. Then he tried tweaking the settings of the graphics card. When 'Balanced' settings is selected performance improved drastically in 1080p res. Both games are not perfect but now play decently, at least for the one or two levels of the game that he played. Not sure what will happen in the intense levels. Now I see that HD5670 is higher performing GPU. I have no doubt that in lower resolution settings Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 1GB will out perform HD5570 2GB DDR3. But I cant help but wonder what will happen in 1080P res? Will Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 1GB still outperform 5570 even though it has lesser memory?

BTW my pc specs- Mother Board is DG41RQ. Supports 1333/1066/800 MHz System Bus. Supports PCI Express x16 Graphics Connector. Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @2.93GHz. 2GB DDR2 RAM.

    5670 is somewhat 25-30% faster than 5570 in any resulation....and neither 5670 nor 5570 can utilize more than 512mb memory.......lol 5570 2gb!!! what a ........joke
to utilize 1gb memory you need at least 4870/5770

For playing games at 1080p with playable fps you should need atleast HD 5770 or GTS 450.

    tomar budget koto?
    Even 6850/460gtx don't need 900mb videoram in 1080p resolution and 8xaa in 99.99% games.
And even with memory hungry unoptimised games like gta4, u will see that, 5670hd 1gb is ahead of 5570hd 2gb ,for its raw gpu power.5570hd kinle 512mb er upore kina purai paglami. Even 5670 ero 512mb enough. U may say, high resolution....are, high resolution e eishob gpu er memory bottleneck korbe na ,gpu power e bottleneck korbe, even with 512mb...
