Lightbulb AMD challenge Nvidia to prove the GTX 590 is fastest

AMD challenge Nvidia to prove the GTX 590 is fastest

Things are hotting up in the world of dedicated graphics cards, and by that I don’t mean the Nvidia GTX 590s that have been sparking and smoking after people have upped the voltage as part of an overclock. While a smoking card is obviously more than just warm, AMD is steaming towards Nvidia in their latest blog post, after Nvidia’s marketing team has stated the GTX 590 is “the world’s fastest graphics card” — essentially calling them out and asking them to prove it.

“Two weeks ago we launched our flagship GPU, the AMD Radeon™ HD 6990″, reads the blog post written by Dave Erskine, AMDs desktop graphics Senior Public Relations Manager. “We had designed it to be a game-changer and we hit the bull’s eye. The result: The AMD Radeon™ HD 6990 achieved the highest default single graphics card score of X3303 using the industry standard 3DMark11 benchmark. And when we launched it, we issued a press release in which we proudly called it the “World’s Fastest Graphics Card” and fully disclosed the basis upon which we made that claim.”

Then, the post really throws down the gauntlet when it continues to read: So now I issue a challenge to our competitor: prove it, don’t just say it. Show us the substantiation. Because as it stands today, leading reviewers agree with us here, here, here, and here that the AMD Radeon HD 6990 sits on the top as the world’s fastest graphics card.”

Personally, I’d be happy to have either the GTX 590 or HD 6990 sitting in my rig, so if the 590s aren’t fast enough just throw them this way. I look forward to seeing whether or not Nvidia can come out and disprove AMD’s claims, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Currently, GTX 590 has some driver issues. When the drivers for these Dual Gpu solutions get more mature, the competition will heat up and will become more interesting.

LOl,I actually like nvidia myself for it's stability, but right now I won't mind owning an amd cause for price/performance ratio,I think amd performes better cheaper, while nvidia is superb but pricey.still this battle result should be interesting to see.

With Default clocks 6990 takes the lead. (When Both cards are waiting to be bought in their boxed form, 6990 is faster )
Overclocked nvidia card will draw a lot of power/ heat.. thats the reason why Nvidia clocked it so low, but should take the lead.

6990 is definitely faster, why nvidia said that is beyond me. 590 is riddled with driver issues, OC korle card fute jai because of high temperatures, the driver's protection mechanism does not kick in. Egula thik korle I guess OC te 6990 beat korte parbe na, review te dekhsilam OC scaling bhalo, 10% OC brought near 10% increase in performance.

Default Re: AMD challenge Nvidia to prove the GTX 590 is fastest

I have read 10 reviews in these last 3 days, 3 of which say that the 6990 is faster, 5 of which say that they are equal with 6990 winning on most tests and 2 of them say that Gtx 590 is faster, its common sense cus the GTX 580 sli is only 5% faster than 6990, and 6990 has more frame buffer which helps out in dual gpu scaling, not to mention that 6 series scaling is epic up to 90% (funny fact is 3dfx cards from late 99 scaled 100% in dual GPU mode).
The Gtx 590 is a winner for me because, its smaller, has more acceptable sound levels and physx is always something good to have. Kinda sad to see how people in the forums kinda have misinformation about ATI cards just cus of amazing Nv rumors and marketing, alot of people claim driver issues (there are some) and that ATi cards are impossible to use, well I have had my fair share of ati cards and I cant really say that I have had problems with the drivers, infact I was dissatisfied with Forceware 195.xx cant recall which one was it, but alot of games crashed with that driver, and had sli problems with CS etc. ATi however take alot of time to release their WHQL, which maybe the reason why people do not like their driver support ?

Oh not to mention you may potentially fry the cards VRM's if you overclock, not good at nv's part at all, they shouldve put a better power-phase, especially since the cards are such watt whores.

Thing is, these beasts are to be bought for systems which are capable of outputting at least 2560x1440 + resolutions. At those resolutions, the 6990 is clearly faster. A person spending $700 on a video card might as well spend $400 for 3x screens so he can game at 5760x1080 resolutions. At those resolutions, the 6990 is faster still as it scales much better with resolution.

See [H]ard|OCP's review. One good thing there is that they show resolutions above 2560x1600 and shows what these cards really should be played at.

yup. I agree. Bt i think wit latest driver gtx 590 is faster.bt maybe when oced. N people who gets these gpus would not care abt power or heat or noise i think. Mayb few will. N POV will release their OC version. That is the one in the review with oc clocks. So they might check the heat.bt as far as i ve seen, with latest driver gtx 590 equals in high res (2560 atleast), wit hd 6990 in many titles.

Why do people have the idea that magical drivers will amazingly increase performance, that only goes true for new architectures where they slowly get optimized for games, they never have uber performance increases, so at the moment there is no way you can say that GTX 590 is faster, because GTX 590 is an uber lowly clocked 2 x GTX 580, GTX 580 in sli is only 5 % faster overall. :/
