Default How to save myself from bangla skype hacks or NSA spying or watchdogs?

I wonder why there is no similar question here. because this skype hacking thing is pretty frequent in this country for last couple of years.

I always thought only NSA and other international super secret services hold a copy of my emails or facebook messages. but now i am reading about lot of bangla skype 'hacks'.

    My question:

    1) Is it actually possible for the Bangladeshi government or Big brother or any Bangladeshi political party to 'hack' into my account or skype call? can they know to whom I'm calling on skype, and more importantly, what i am talking in skype?

if answer of question 1 is yes-
    2) How did those bangladeshi skype 'hacking' actually happen? how did those conversation have been leaked?

2a) if somebody hacks into my skype account can they get voice/video data? if yes how can they?

    3) I use those services from both windows based pc and android based smartphones. Is one platform(pc) is way safer than the other(phone) when using internet?

    4) Which is more prone to 'hacking' or 'watching' among wired broadband, wimax or wireless broadband or cellphone internet. i know public wifi is very very unsafe.

    5) is there any security difference between different brand/type of routers? let's discuss about it too.

    6) i know how hackers or social engineers did the bruteforce password thing with icloud find my iphone celebrity leaks. let's discuss about that. is bruteforcing my skype account possible?

    7) according to american law, yahoo/google or other companies have to give anybody's personal email and information to nsa because they operates in usa. Now, is there any anti-nsa email service providers which is based on 'neutral' countries? somewhere like switzerland?

    8) i wanted to ask another method about security, which i decided not to ask now. actually i won't ask this question publicly.

    also, lets not forget wikileaks.
    1) how did they leak those document?
    2) how can i protect my emails so wikileaks doesn't get a copy.

snowden's leak was totally different from hacking i think.

Now the main question: How do I protect myself?? don't answer me like "leave internet".

Objective: the purpose of this thread is to protect my and everyone else's private online activity from being 'hacked' or 'watched' by government or any other terrorist agencies, or even wikileaks or watch dogs.

NOTE: This is not a political question. I know it's difficult to keep politics out of this topic but I do not want to read "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear about being watched" in this thread. I just want to keep my activity safe from BD people, NSA and other agencies.
I do not want to discuss about the morality of these bangla skype leaks or snowden leaks or wikileaks or other hacks in this thread.

    1. Only the govt. is capable I think. In our case the ruling party (whichever gets power).

    2. Bangladeshi govt. or our security forces e.g. NSI, PBI, RAB, DGFI use a kind of software for this. The seller(s) is/are Israeli/American/European software company(s). It is not well documented though.

    3. Since the govt. recently shut down Whatsapp and some other MOBILE services temporarily, it is safe to assume that they were also added in the surveillance backbone. Meaning not only Windows but also Android is prone to hacking. It's just MY speculation though.

    4. IDK.

    5. Network GURUs like @Codex should know something about that.

    6.

    7. Nada IMO. European countries themselves have very advanced surveillance structures IIRC. Could be wrong though. And most European countries wouldn't mind sharing information with GUARDIAN ANGEL U.S.A!

    8. -_-

    Wikileaks:
    1) They had an inside man. A military tech-someone. He was already tried IIRC.

    2) AFAIK WikiLeaks didn't hack themselves. They leaked what the U.S. govt. had already stored by surveillancing/hacking. So if U.S. govt. has nothing of you chances are WikiLeaks also don't.

Political or counter security analysis type er kisu na korle chinta korar dorkar nai, tobe ekta country er secret bishoi niye jodi interest thake, better be an anonymous. or start using the Dark Web, not gonna discuss anything about is publicly.
Facebook, google etc is not gonna protect you from the secret surveillance of different intelligence agencies.

    wait, wat?

so i can't do something with my router to protect myself? if i can, provide me a easy guide please :v

How do they hack HTTPS? because i thought only the receiver and i know what i am sending data through encryption like HTTPS?
i thought not only my isp knows what i am sending through HTTPS.
i thought the only way NSA can know what i am sending through HTTPS by using the secret court to sue google or facebook and order them to provide my emails and private information?

now would you say all my knowledge about this is completely wrong? :'(

Why are you so much concerned about these? It's not like every jodu, modhu, kodu. can access your information. It's the government only. If they want they can do it afaik. And they are monitoring phone calls too afaik.

I don't think anyone should panic about these as long as (s)he is not involved in any illegal activities. Or, should he?

I did make myself abundantly clear, This is NOT a thread for political debate or stuff like "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" because it was a slogan for hitlar's gestapo

    please stay on topic

    My 2 cents,

    3. They connect alike, it all boils down to tcp/ip. Depends, do you have control via VPNs?
    4. If the SSL certificate is okay, HTTPS is pretty safe even on non-encrypted public Wi-Fi.

    Wikileaks
    2. Maybe Encrypt emails with a PGP key and share it with your recipents. (Also available for Facebook emails notifications)

bruteforce is a different thing man, its not like trying random passwords in the traditional way. so yes, skype will let any bodybruteforce. though there are a few security measures taken but still only a few scripts can break that easily.

why would skype allow anyone to try logging into my account for more than 5 times.... shouldn't they lock my account if somebody tries to enter my password more than 5 times? i even saw banglagamer to block me if i mistype password for more than 5 times.

    A piece of information:

NSA couldn't hack google servers. I don't know if they (NSA) requested backdoor access to their servers or not, if they did google rejected them. So according to Snowden documents, they went after another thing - the network that connects google servers with each other. While google's connections with outside world is securely encrypted, their internal network was not. So NSA used this weakness and developed procedures to extract data from these networks and when google engineers learned it, they were furious. "Make sure you publish it" is apparently what they said to the reporter who was doing the story. Since then google's internal networks are also encrypted, but the damage was done.

No need to hack it when you can request access to the data.

    My question:......................
I'll try to answer some questions here.

    1. Hack into account? Yes. Hack into call? No. Calls are directly streamed to and from user's computers. After ditching the skype p2p protocol the only files that are now saved in the central server is from chat log.

    2. They can't get your call recordings just by hacking into your account. What they can get is call logs. And about leaked skype calls: I believe one of the caller's pc was compromised, so it was possible to record audio from speakers and microphone (using the stereo mix). This can be avoided if you're knowledgeable about computers, but unfortunately, most of the users aren't.

    3. Exploits can be designed for both systems. Neither is exactly safe. For the moment android may be a little bit more secure.

    4. Every one of them (man in the middle attack)

    5. From general usage perspective, no.

    6. Most probably, yes.

    7. There was (RIP Lavabit). Now you can try this, though it's not exactly simple: http://www.gpg4win.org/

    8. Better not (ask that question publicly)
