    Default [HELP] Prepaid electricity meters

Today our building owner installed prepaid electric smart meters as per ordered by government. Now he was telling a lot about it I was tired and din't catch much.

Now I want to hear from you guys about it. So far I know that the bill has to be paid in advance. Now question is, suppose in the middle of night suddenly my balance is over what happens at that moment? My power gets cut or will there be negative billing?
I heard negative billing was available for Friday and Saturdays but what about other days of the week or during big holidays like Eid, is negative billing available for those time?

THE BIGGEST QUESTION is can we pay from mobile and get the prepaid card number or do we have to go to those electric offices with long lines and stand there in sweat and waste time?

Also is there any actual power limit in these meters? Like can I run 2 ton ac in all rooms, microwave oven, 1000w pc and everything of high power at the same time with these meters?

Want to hear from those who have been using it and know about it. Thanks

My previous house had prepaid meters. And it was pain. Let me summarize my experience.

    1. Power does not get cut off if the balance runs out between 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM. If the balance runs out between this time the power will get cut exactly at 10:00 AM.

    2. Even if the balance runs out during the daytime, you can press "#" to activate negative billing. But there are limits on how long you can run it on negative billing.

    3. I don't think auto negative billing is possible for holidays. But not sure because we never ran out of balance during one.

    4. On that house often running my PC (A modest 400W one) with my mother's 2kW microwave together continuously for more than 60 seconds caused power cut for 30 seconds. Landlord blamed circuit breakers, but I always suspected it was caused by the prepaid meter. Never got the time to check it out.

Thanks for the reply man. Oh this is very bad news. We have air conditioners running in 3 rooms. I am very confused with all these.

Could you clarify your 1st point please. If balance gets finished between 8 pm to 10 am than when will I get power cut off?

And how much is the max limit of negative billing?

Also is mobile payment and card number receiving in it possible? Going to those office is painful.

If the balance runs out between 8 PM and 10 AM, say like 4 AM in the morning, you'll get power cut off at 10 AM. And the bill between 4 AM and 10 AM would be added to the negative billing.

Not sure about the other two questions. The billing and payments were managed exclusively by my dad so never had a chance to check out details.

Okay thanks again for the info man. By the way are you living in Chittagong? I heard those meters had limited power supply in Chittagong and wasn't enough for ac and oven.

afaik, u can only pay thru the designated vending stations. we generally send the caretaker out to do the work. there probably is negative billing during holidays. iirc, once we couldn't find our card and it was eid holidays when we ran out of credit but the power wasn't cut. don't know about the power limit though.
