    Default Need help regarding RAMs.

I have 2x2GBs,(on slot1 and slot 3) of 1333mhz rams on my H55 Mobo. Now i have a few questions.

    1. I use windows 7x64 OS...and even @idle desktop my pc uses up 1.37 GB minimum. is that normal, or too much?

    2. Since the DDR3 rams are cheap ryt now ( im not sure how long the price will stay like this), i was thinking of Buying 2GBs extra, but is it really needed?

3.if i get 2 GBs more, will i be able to use it on triple channel ?and if it does then how much of an advantage is it?

    1. The usage seems a bit on the higher side, is there other background program running? it can determine by Task Manager. Also CPU and memory usage varies upon antivirus program, as some needs more resource than others. For example i previously used AVAST 5 that seems needed less resource than NIS 2010 that i m using now. Still the usage barely cross 800 mega in idle for me(win 7 x86 version). If possible run a full system scan with latest antivirus definition.

    2. 4 GB is already good, adding 2 GB more will only be benefited for heavy gaming and multitasking.

    3. Triple channel setup for memory will definitely speed things up(but again mostly for heavy level gaming). But it may also depends on the mobo.

Yes, as your using Win 7, 1.37GB is sorta normal :/ if you want, you can buy another 2gb's. but would be better if you can buy a 4gb stick for noticeable performance increases

add 2 GB RAM then u will get double bandwidth for ram
and for win7 600-800MB is normal..

Its normal 32-bit os uses less rams & 64-bit uses more RAM for program compatabitliy i guess.....nd crysis 2 er bapar ta to bola jacche na until it releases ajaira hope diye to aar lavv nai.....yes if it have 4 slots then 16GB handle kortey parbe ATM...in future we can expect bigger Memory in 1 stick....dun worry wid 4GB Ram u can Run any Game till date & still hav memory to spare...in game approx my 3GB gets used...But I myself will be getting 1 stick more not for crysis 2 but for the benifits of triple channel & he truth is u cant multitask bcoz of slow Hard Drives....SSDs are gr8 multitaskers bcoz i have a gr8 processor but i cant still multitask bcoz of my HDD....Only games can take advantage of the extra RAM as multitasking is BS on HDDs....

You cant use triple channel. LGA 1366 is triple channel, LGA1156 is limited to dual channel. Id say 4GB is enough, and 1.37GB is a bit on the high side unless you have many startup applications running.

That's completely normal, nothing to worry about. If you disable pagefile (NOT recommended with only 4 GB RAM), you will see much higher usage. And it is 64-bit OS so it, itself eats more memory than 32-bit OS does. It will simply keep more programs in your RAM so that you do not have to wait for it to be fetched from the disk provided that you have enough free memory. If you run a demanding app, the OS will automatically swap less important programs to the pagefile. For example, my RAM usage is 2.12 GB right now (I don't use pagefile, that's why).

No, its not really needed at all, especially not for games as of now. Like I said, its only going to give you the freedom of disabling pagefile offering you a much faster experience (because of virtually no disk usage unless you run a program). More RAM equals more headroom for multitasking, insanely high resolution photo editing, video editing and rendering. Other than that, its useless. You have to choose which way to go.

H55 chipset has dual channel memory controller. You cannot run triple channel. Only dual channel.

Theres no quad channel memory in LGA1156. Unless you mean simply populating 4 channels. Technically, that would still be dual channel bandwidth

Sorry, I meant quad stick dual channel (instead of dual stick dual channel), my bad.

And there is also no "quad channel" memory controller in any desktop system AFAIK.

Not "maybe", they do NOT have triple channel. But beware, next gen is coming with quad channel memory (Bulldozer chips are rumored to have support for quad channel, but I did not further investigate).

Yes. I also explained the "few" advantages of more RAM. There is no need for more RAM unless you know what it does. The sectors I have mentioned get massive boost in performance from more RAM but if are not interested in these sectors, then investing in more RAM will be a complete waste of money.

You should get atleast 4GB ram for win7x64bit for gaming.

for single channel the ram bus width is 64bit.
for dual channel the ram bus width becomes 128bit, so u will get double bandwidth
But if your CPU is bandwidth is less than the bandwidth of your single channel u wont get any advantage regarding speed.
But as you have good cpu i hope dual channel will give you lot better performance

I don't think your motherboard support quad channel ram

And no need to disable service from msconfig if you have 4GB ram.
Instead you can turn off some applications start up with windows.
Such as my windows only starts ATi catalyst with startup.
I start the other softwares when i need them.

So, don't disable service, but u may turn off start up applications.

See the difference in Single Channel & Dual Channel RAM for my CPU.
As my CPU bandwidth is less than dual channel bandwidth so I didn't get much improvemnt
Though its better than single channel for me atleast
My RAM windows rating is now 6.6 which was 5.5 when single channel.
