Default Halo: Combat Evolved remake coming this holiday

Joystiq has learned that the previously rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will indeed launch this holiday season for Xbox 360 with a full visual overhaul. Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets. While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations.

The Halo: Combat Evolved remake is allegedly being developed by New Jersey-based Saber Interactive, the company behind TimeShift and Namco's upcoming Inversion, but we've been unable to confirm the nature of the engine powering it. We understand that it's something other than the Reach engine.

The Halo: Combat Evolved update, one of two Halo games currently in development under the watchful eye of 343 Industries, is expected to support 1080p resolution and 3D televisions. Details on multiplayer are supposedly still being worked out, but we understand the remake will likely feature online co-op (the original game supported two-player split-screen co-op).

The game is expected to re-evolve on November 15, 2011, ten years after Halo: Combat Evolved launched alongside the Xbox. Our sources didn't know of any plans to similarly upgrade the recently disconnected Halo 2, but it's hard to imagine Microsoft playing favorites with its biggest franchise.

Above post is nicely copied & pasted. Too lazy to do more than that for XBOX 360 owners.

E3 2011: Halo: CE Anniversary Classic Mode revealed

Those of you with high enough UNSC security clearance (or an Xbox Live account) will have all seen the trailer for 343 Studio's remake of Halo: Combat Evolved.

At first glance it can be easy to underestimate the degree of work that has gone into transforming the breakthrough console FPS to bring it in line with 2011 standards of graphical fidelity, but thanks to an option called Classic Mode, you need not rely of memory alone.

Halo: CE Anniversary runs two engines simultaneously. One that faithfully replicates the untouched original exactly as it appeared on the original hardware back in 2001. The other is a graphical rebuild, showing off all of the advances in lighting, effects and rich texture detail that fans of Halo Reach will be accustomed to.

The best part? You can can flick between classic and modern presentations in real time at the touch of a button. This was a feature employed with great success in the XBLA Monkey Island remakes and satisfies purists, tech nerds and people with hazy memories. How will you play it?

These remakes are getting common these days, usually communities do such stuff and gets the green signal from the copyright holders as a non-profitable project.

    Halo Anniversary Supports Kinect

Microsoft: "This will not affect the core gameplay experience."

Microsoft confirmed its Halo: Combat Evolved remake for Xbox 360, dubbed Halo Anniversary, will utilize the Kinect motion camera.

Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer said in an interview with GameSpot: "As a first party we believe that Kinect will be important to all genres of games, be it racing games with Forza, combat games like Ryse -- even games like Halo Anniversary has Kinect integration."

When asked for comment, a Microsoft spokesperson said the Kinect functionality will "not affect the core gameplay experience" and is merely an additive feature.

"It's no surprise we're exploring ways Kinect can enhance game experiences in authentic and meaningful ways," a spokesperson told IGN. "The Kinect features we're exploring with 'Halo: Anniversary' are additive and will not affect the core gameplay experience or alter our mission of delivering a faithful recreation of the original game. That said we have nothing else to share just yet."

In a separate E3 interview with IGN, Spencer said bringing back Master Chief with Halo 4 is a huge move for the franchise.

Halo Anniversary is set to launch on November 15.
