    - The Darkness II rejoins possessed hero Jackie Estacado, now boss of The Mob, as a full-scale gangster war breaks out and his monstrous Darkness powers surface.
    - Game also features a "hand-painted graphic noir technique" which enables it to stay true to its comic book origins.

    Other info -

2K has put an end to years of rumours by officially confirming the development of The Darkness II, and has also announced that Digital Extremes will be managing the project.
British comic book author Paul Jenkins is returning to pen the script. Jenkins has written for the comic series itself, as well as contributing to the God of War series.
"Sometimes that whooshing sound you hear is that of comic fans holding their collective breath," said co-creator of The Darkness comics Marc Silvestri in a press release. Or it might just be the wind.
Digital Extremes is most famous for its work in co-developing the Unreal series alongside Epic. The studio also chipped in with Bioshock 2's development, and created 2008's Dark Sector, which was praised in its 8/10 review for having "thrilling combat and sensational visuals".
Rumours of Darkness II have been slipping out since 2008, where a speaker at Top Cow's New York Comic Con panel said "we can’t say Darkness and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, Darkness. Wink. Sequel."
The original game in the series was made by Starbreeze Studios, who have recently been rumoured to be heading up a new Syndicate game for EA.

The original wasn't a GREAT game, nor a recommendable one.
But, expecting higher from 2k & The Chronicles of Riddick's dev.'s (same dev. who developed this original ?) this time.

As far as I've seen, it didn't seem a GREAT game to me. The reviewers also said the same. Not a "must try" game. People have many many other games to try in PS3/360 before trying this one. :S

& ami ei line ta bujhi nai -- "have some positivity rion?" ... Positivity thakar ki ache ? :O
    No offense btw.

    The Darkness II: First Glimpses

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) has been in full swing in California this last week, giving us gamers and the press alike some fantastic insights into some of the title pegged for 2011. There have been some quite exciting announcements this year, with previews of Super Mario Bros 3D, Dead Island and some light at the end of the tunnel for fans of the Mirrors Edge franchise.

One thing in particular pricked my ears up, and that was the fact that more information on The Darkness II has surfaced. The information that has arisen about the second part of the comic book horror have got me more than I was when the game was first announced, and what follows is what we now know.

The Darkness II takes place two years after the events of the first game; the former small time mobster Jackie Calavera is now a Mafia gang leader and he’s more badass than ever. The opening sequences of the game have been revealed as well, showing Jackie being crucified by a mysterious stranger who is intent on obtaining the power of the darkness for himself. Whilst Jackie is nailed up you can see from his perspective that his powers are being absorbed into an ancient vase. The story of how he managed to find himself in this situation is revealed through playable flashbacks. Does this mean that there will be people out to get Jackie and his powers apart from the mysterious stranger? Will this be a vital part of the game’s storyline? Whatever it may be, it sounds awesome.

It’s also worth noting at this point that the sequel is being developed by a different company than the first instalment. The Darkness was developed by Starbreeze Studios; best known for The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. The Darkness baton has now been passed to developers Digital Extremes; best known for Dark Sector and the multiplayer aspect of Bioshock 2. Will this change be for the better?

So what’s new in terms of gameplay? In the first game you could do some pretty horrific stuff with your guns, including some epic pistol whips to the faces of your enemies and instantly ending their lives with an awesome headshot or two. Well, how about the new ability to wield four guns at once?

    - One of these new additions is the ability to pull off some tentacle execution moves, such as the Anaconda execution; one of your tentacles wraps around your foe and then bursts through their chest,
    - as well as the Wishbone; where both your Darkness tentacles grab the legs of your enemy apart and tear them in half.

Some pretty gruesome stuff, but definitely something I am looking forward too. The Darkness II is pegged for a 2011 release, and we’ll continue to update you when new information arises.

2K Games has announced the release date for The Darkness II, the sequel to 2007's supernatural first-person shooter.

The Darkness II will be released on October 4 in North America, and October 7 in the rest of the world. Digital Extremes is replacing Starbreeze Studios as the developer for the sequel, which will continue the story of Jackie Estacado, a mafioso with demonic powers called "the Darkness." In the sequel, players will be able to use a technique called "quad wielding," which will allow players to use guns and demon powers at the same time. We checked with a team of scientists, who confirmed that quad wielding is twice as awesome as dual wielding.

The Darkness II will be available for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

5 Things You're Gonna Love About "The Darkness II"

When The Darkness came out in the summer of 2007, it was an ambitious but flawed first-person shooter featuring a long-haired goth mafia heir possessed by a demon and a lust for carnage. Yawn. It garnered positive reviews (most likely because it was summer), but when BioShock came out one month later, The Darkness was quickly forgotten. Now The Darkness II is on the horizon. Boasting a new look and a new developer (Digital Extremes, the folks behind the Unreal franchise—and who, ironically, also helped develop the PS3 version of BioShock), the sequel is set to make good on the gruesome promises of the original. We recently got a hands-on with a pre-alpha build of the game (it drops in October) and were shocked at how excited we were. From the stylized new look to the over-the-top ultraviolence, here’s what got our blood pumping the fastest....

    1. Art of Darkness

The original Darkness always struck us as visually uninspired, monochromatic, and bland. The Darkness II is a completely different story, thanks to its rich noir atmosphere. Granted, cel-shading is one of the gimmicks of the minute, much the same way as the grim gray and gritty look that was in fashion for the first installment, but the hand-painted textures do much to connect the game to its comic book origins.

The first time out, it was tough to believe the idea of Jackie Estacado as an occult mobster, but this little bit of cartoon stylization goes a long way in selling the concept in the sequel.

    2. First Person FTW

The temptation to minimize or pull entirely out of the first-person perspective for dramatic effect during cutscenes and setpieces is obvious—most shooters do it for the introduction and finale at the very least. The Darkness II not only avoids that, but takes great pains to make the first-person experience as dynamic and immersive as possible.

During our demo, we crawled through broken glass, got dragged along the floor of a restaurant, and—most disturbingly—saw ourselves tortured, beaten and crucified. All of this made for a riveting and immersive experience, and we can only hope the rest of the game follows the example of our hands-on.

The downside of this? We never got a really clear idea of what Jackie looks like when he's in full-on shadowy demon mode—something we're sure is pants-wettingly impressive, judging from the terror on the faces of the enemies we savaged.

    3. Up Close and Personal

As much as we love a good sniper rifle (and a good headshot, n00b!), there's definitely something to be said for in-your-face action. Not a lot of first-person games pull that off successfully (we can only think of two that do: Condemned and Chronicles of Riddick) but The Darkness II makes the attempt to throw down with some nice old-fashioned hand-to-hand—er, hand-to-tentacle— violence. Sure, you may have those pistols, but the real fun of the game is letting those demonic moray eels on your shoulders chow down on your enemies.

    4. Kill At Will

In Darkness II, you have an arsenal at your disposal from the very beginning: two pistols, two hungry shadow-tentacle things—one for grabbing, one for slashing—and a darkling henchman (the horde of darklings from the first game is gone, thankfully, and replaced with this much more manageable and personable lackey). Not to mention the environment itself: Thanks to the grabby tentacle, car doors can be used as shields and debris can be hurled at enemies. If this is what you get at the beginning, we can’t wait to see how the powers evolve over the course of the game.

The control scheme to manage all this action (each trigger shoots a gun, while the shoulder buttons control their respective toothy tentacles) initially made us feel like we needed a third hand to make everything work, but once we settled into a rhythm, we felt only one thing: power.

    5. The Medium Is The Mess

The shadow tentacles are vicious things. They slash and grab and eat hearts right out of the chests of wounded opponents. They even have finishing moves—ultraviolent set pieces that end with blood, intestines, and limbs spraying all over the place. We can’t lie: this sort of thing is almost too violent for our taste, especially in a game that lacks a sense of camp like Mortal Kombat.

But on the other hand, how often do you get to disembowel a mobster in midair?

    Bonus: Mike Patton

In the first Darkness, the eponymous entity gives Jackie his demonic powers was voiced by Mike Patton, the growly, snarly, vocally acrobatic frontman of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, and more bands than you can shake a shadow tentacle at. Unfortunately, The Darkness didn’t say all that much over the course of the game—and what he did say wasn’t terribly interesting.

The Darkness II is a rare second chance: Patton has returned to voicing the creature. We only hope that this time around, the opportunity for greatness isn’t squandered, because it has the potential to be one of the more entertaining voice performances of the year.

The Darkness II demos “quad wield” combat

Games which let you hold a weapon in each hand are clearly superior to others, but what about a game which gives you four…?

Darkness protagonist Jackie can manifest tentacles of living shadow, and naturally, when his hands are full of boom sticks, its these nasty little creatures he sends in to get the job done. The job is generally killing people in creative and interesting ways.
The Darkness II releases for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2012, with a Wii U version planned.
