Firearms of MGS4!!!
Get a glimpse of Snake's weapons of mass destruction!!
Solid Snake is well known for on site weapons procurement in the midst of his missions, making it important to track down and acquire firearms, explosives and other items to help him achieve his tasks. However, even this system has changed dramatically within Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Every weapon has been individually coded to specific soldiers, making it impossible for another person to fire the gun. That is, until you meet Drebin, the gun launderer who will provide you with new firearms, ammunition and items to make his weapons more effective on the battlefield.

each weapon is rated across six different categories: damage inflicted per round, penetration potential from rounds, shock potential from rounds, reload speed, stability when firing and the lock on range for auto aim. This range will go from S (the best rating) to D (the worst). Every now and then, you'll also come across weapons that don't feature a lock on range, such as grenades or sniper rifles. While these stats will initially affect how Snake can use the firearms, he'll have the opportunity to customize his arsenal with different accessories.

Depending upon the gun and its rails or mounting points, Snake can add a variety of items to make him more lethal in a fire fight. Dot or laser scopes can improve his aim and help him take enemies out quicker, while fore grips can reduce recoil during firing. Flashlights can be used to surprise and blind soldiers or light the way in dark areas or vents. You can even attach shotguns or grenade launchers to really hand out some destruction.

M4 Custom

The M4 Custom is a highly modifiable carbine based off the M16 rifle primarily used by the US Military. Introduced in 1994 as a replacement for that firearm, the M4 was designed as an ideal rifle for CQC/CQB (close quarters battle) and was also made to be extremely modular with additional accessories. In Metal Gear Solid 4, the M4 custom is one of the most flexible weapons in the game, with five mounting points that can be used to maximize its firepower.

A developmental military weapon originally designed for the now defunct OICW contract, the XM8 was supposed to be cheaper, lighter and more effective than the M16 and M4 carbine. Based off the kinetic energy module of the XM29 weapon, the rifle was designed to be highly modular, with four separate variations including a grenade launcher, compact carbine and sharpshooter model with advanced optical sight and 20 inch barrel. In Metal Gear Solid 4, the XM8 can be configured with one attachment.

A long mainstay of the U.S. military, the M60 machine gun was introduced in 1957 to replace the Browning Automatic Rifle and M1919A6, providing a large amount of suppression fire capability thanks to its belt fed ammunition system. While the original weapon was frequently replaced by M240s due to reliability concerns by many branches of the military, the M60E4 features a number of improvements over the original. In MGS4, the M60E4 can be modified in four ways. It's also one of the few weapons that makes Snake scream like Rambo when he starts firing at enemy soldiers.

The AK-102 is a variation based off the AK-101 assault rifle that was introduced in Russia in the 1990s. Based of the reliable Kalashnikov rifle series, it is a compact carbine variant of the rifle with a much shorter barrel. Coupled with a solid rate of fire of 650 rounds a minute, the AK-102 is a very dangerous weapon in skilled hands. In MGS4, the AK-102 can be modified with one attachment.

The P90 is a Belgian designed submachine gun initially introduced in 1986 and released into worldwide service in 1994. The bullpup configuration makes the weapon perfect for right or left handed shooters, and its relatively light weight body coupled with a high rate of fire makes the P90 perfect for personal defense and security forces. This is primarily due to its specialized ammunition, which has better penetration capability and a larger range than standard rounds fired from similar submachine guns. In MGS4, the P90 can be modified three different ways, making it much more deadly on the battlefield.

The M14 EBR is a shorter version of the M14 rifle initially developed in 1957 for the U.S. military. Designed as a replacement for the M1 Garand, the M14 saw a significant amount of use in Vietnam before it was replaced by the M16, and was further modified to serve as a sniper rifle for other armed forces. The EBR variant has multiple rails that allows it to be customized with multiple accessories. In MGS4, it can be modified three times for distant sniping.

Developed for USSOCOM's SCAR program, the Mk17 is a highly modular weapon designed to be adaptable to future weapon upgrades thanks to its multiple mounting rails. The weapon can easily be configured in mere minutes for CQC, tactical or precision fire thanks to its interchangeable barrels. It also is ideal as a Personal Defense Weapon due to its compact size and design. In MGS4, the FN SCAR Mk17 can be modified in four ways, adding to its flexibility in battle.

First put into production in 2001 by Heckler and Koch, the MP7 is a submachine gun designed to penetrate body armor. While it operates like an assault rifle with specialized ammunition, it features low recoil during firing, and has an extendable stock and folding front grip that can help stabilize the weapon during use. In Metal Gear Solid 4, the MP7 can be modified with one attachment.

The M-10 (also known as the MAC-10) is extremely well known for its compact size and high rate of fire. In fact, the weapon can chew through its magazine in less than two seconds on full auto, although the gun is somewhat harder to fire without a suppressor to quiet its discharge and provide a secondary "grip" for the gun. Fortunately, the threading of the barrel makes it easy to attach a number of attachments. In MGS4, the M-10 can be customized with one attachment.
