    Default PSP2 unveiled!

The PSP2/NGP (next gen playstation portable) has been revealed. Graphics will rival the PS3. Coming this holiday season in Japan. http://go.ign.com/gajCOl

    http://engt.co/heiwQO

Specs include a 5-inch touchscreen OLED display with 960 x 544 resolution, dual analog sticks (not nubs as on the current generation), 3G, WiFi, GPS, front and rear touchpads, motion sensors, an electronic compass, and cameras on both the front and the rear. Oh, and the CPU is described as "the most advanced" in its class. Available this holiday season. Wait... what?!

Games will come on "new media," not UMD anymore, but we're unclear on what sort of flash memory is being used. Sony's rather proud of the fact it's offering the world's first dual analog stick combo on a portable device, though we're more geeked about the quadrupling of pixel count from the original PSP.

Games being shown off at Sony's live event right now include Killzone, Resistance, Little Big Planet, and Uncharted -- with the latter serving as a demo platform to show off how the NGP's rear touchpad can be used to more intuitively climb up some vines. That touch panel on the back is the same size as the front OLED display and is "mapped" directly to the game screen, which is allowing for some pretty sophisticated stuff when using the two simultaneously.

    Sony's NGP / PSP2 has a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor

    Great News. Short Cut Dilam

Uncharted demoed, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance, more confirmed for PSP2

Sony’s just announced the first games for its “Next Generation Portable.” The short version? Get excited.

Speaking during its Tokyo PlayStation Meeting, the publisher name-dropped Uncharted, Killzone, Hot Shots Golf, Resistance, Wipeout, Gravity Daze, Little Deviants, and LittleBigPlanet as upcoming NGP titles.

The publisher then showed Uncharted running live, demonstrating how the touch panel can be used to control Drake in addition to the new and improved analog nubs. For instance, Yoshida slid his finger down the touch pad and Drake slid down a vine. More impressively, you can touch places and Drake will immediately move to them. The gyrosensor can also be used to make Drake leap.

Also on display was a game called Little Deviants. Kotaku helpfully provided the video.

In it, Yoshida displayed the fact that the NGP’s rear-mounted touch pad is the same size as its main screen, so a tap on the back corresponds to a tap on the front (which sounds really dirty if you’ve got our wizened, 12-year-old sense of humor). The front screen also has touch capabilities, however, so that’s an option as well.

no official price announced. Nintendo 3DS has been announced at $250. This NGP will definitely cost more than that.

Sandy bride er sathe ki kono mobile cpu parbe naki ??

but luk at the speed of evolution of mobile processors.

Key features of the Cortex-A9 core are:

Out-of-order speculative issue superscalar execution pipeline giving 2.50 DMIPS/MHz/core.
NEON SIMD instruction set extension performing up to 16 operations per instruction (optional).
High performance VFPv3 Floating Point Unit doubling the performance of previous ARM FPUs (optional).
Thumb-2 instruction set encoding reduces the size of programs with little impact on performance.
    TrustZone security extensions.
Jazelle DBX support for Java execution.
    Jazelle RCT for JIT complilation.
Program Trace Macrocell and CoreSight Design Kit for unobtrusive tracing of instruction execution.
    L2 cache controller (0-4 MB).
    Dual-Core to Quad-Core Processing

ARM states that the TSMC 40G hard macro implementation typically operating at 2GHz; a single core (excluding caches) occupies less than 1.5 mm2 when designed in a TSMC 65 nanometer (nm) generic process and can be clocked at speeds over 1 GHz and consumes less than 250 mW per core

    Core features of GPU

    Series5 (SGX)

PowerVR's SGX series features pixel, vertex, and geometry shader hardware, supporting OpenGL 2.0 and DirectX 10.1 Shader Model 4.1.

The SGX GPU core is included in several popular systems-on-chips (SoC) used in many portable devices. Apple produces the A4 and use it in their iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV. Multicore version in PSP2.

    Uncharted PSP2 revealed, detailed

Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has shown off Uncharted for the PSP2 - codenamed NGP - in Japan this morning.

The title looks "stunning" according to our man in Japan, who "can't get over how vivid the colours are".

Yoshida himself referenced the "large and beautiful screen" whilst playing, which he claimed was around double the size of the standard 3.5 inch smartphone display.

The exec played through a jungle scene with Nathan Drake, who returns in the portable game. He used the touchpad to jump, but said that the X button would have the same function.

Most interestingly, Yoshida 'rocked' the console back and forth to move vine - showing off some motion control - and then rubbed the back trackpad up and down to climb it.

He said: "Movements like that can deliver a very intuitive feeling."

The demo finished with a melee kill. We'll post some pics as soon as they come in.

New Call Of Duty for PSP2 confirmed

Activision has just taken to the stage in Japan to show off a new Call Of Duty for Sony's PSP2, or NGP as the platform holder has codenamed it.

    The publisher's Philip Earl said:

"We believe that NGP will change the way people play games on the go, and what better way to prove that, than with Call of Duty."

He added: "We believe CoD for NGP will set the bar for the next generation of portable gaming."

Following Earl's presentation, Sony PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai took to the stage to show off a little more about the game.

PSP2 video shows Trophies, apps, messaging

Sony's released a video that was shown at its press conference earlier this morning to reveal the PSP2.

The video itself doesn't actually show the PSP2 - or NGP (Next Generation Portable) as it's codenamed - but it does showcase a few features and some people being really amazed by them.

Fancy graphics point to Trophies on the handheld as well as apps (a map app in particular) and social features like messaging.

    PSP2 touchpad video touches down

The first PSP2 demo video has swung on to the net, showing off the handheld's rear touchpad.

It's not the best video as it's off-screen footage of a UStream feed, so you can imagine how that's going to turn out.

If you ask us, this whole stroking the back of your PSP2 thing looks a bit creepy but we guess it'll all hinge on the application.

PSP2 'blurs the lines between entertainment and reality'

Sony says that PSP2 (codename: NGP) has been designed to blur the lines between interactive entertainment and reality.

It sounds to us like a piece of marketing puff with a futuristic spin, so we'll let Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO jack Tretton explain in his own words.

"With NGP we carry on this rich history of redefining industry standards and raising the bar for consumer expectations for what portable gaming can deliver," he wrote on the PS Blog.

"Designed to blur the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, the NGP will offer Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity. The 5-inch OLED front multi-touch display will bring brilliant images to life and the multi-touch pad on the rear will allow users to engage with the game and characters with a simple movement of their fingertips.

"Additionally, services created specifically for NGP will be available on PlayStation Network. These services are designed help users take their gameplay, as well as interaction with other gamers, to new levels.

"I think you will agree that the incredible momentum behind PlayStation continues to grow with each passing year. While 2010 was record breaking thanks to an unsurpassed line-up of award winning AAA software, the introduction of 3D entertainment into millions of homes and the launch of our incredibly successful PlayStation Move motion controller, 2011 is already shaping up to be one of our biggest years yet."

Metal Gear Solid 4 on PSP2: First impressions

Hideo Kojima took to the stage in Tokyo earlier this morning to talk about his excitement over Sony's PSP2, or NGP. But the legendary designer also had something else to show off - a fully working prototype of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Our man witnessed the spectacle first hand, and has just got back to us with his impressions of what he saw.

We'll update this with any video that lands online through the day - and please remember that for now (despite Kojima-san's excitement over cross PS3-NGP play) it's just a tech demo:

The character model of Snake was a real surprise. In all honesty, it might have even looked more polished that the man you know and love from the PS3 version of the game.

From his silver fox hair to the bristles in his 'tache, everything looked fantastic - not to mention his facial expressions (grimacing in the main) which really stood out. Otocon also looked sharp - literally. He was almost 'pointier' than before.

Both of those were fantastic, but it's true that the environments were lacking a little. There were a few patches of detail I remember from the PS3 version that has been omitted.

Overall it was a hugely impressive insight into what NGP can do. You've got to hope that Kojima just releases it regardless (!), but we'll have to wait until E3 2011 to see what his real plans are.

Well dx 10.1 o to beshi pura na. And the same technology is in ur hands now instead of in a mid tower casing.

I im expecting dx 11 support by 2012/2013.

By da way, the gpu is multicore. Most likely a dual core in psp2. Even in desktop gpu, dual cores r mainly available in the top segment.

    Yah, I guess so.
But, what about the security ? :S
Sony will tighten it up... but, the game sizes will be much smaller than PS3, so will be much easier to DL.
