Default Crysis 3 plot already mapped out - Crytek

Sequel's creation "depends on the success of Crysis 2"

Crytek has told CVG that it fully intends to make Crysis 3, and that it already has a plan for how the series' story will progress.

However, the studio admits that the chances of a third game in the FPS series making it to market depend on the success of Crysis 2, which hits stores in March.

Asked if the studio has Crysis mapped out as a trilogy, or as an even bigger story, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said:

"We definitely want to make Crysis 3. I'm not making a formal announcement. We'd like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first. I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2.

"If it doesn't meet our goals for whatever reason and doesn't even break even then there may not be a Crysis 3," he added. "But if it sells anywhere near what [Call of Duty] Black Ops has, there may be more from Crysis."

Last May, EA Partners boss David DeMartini told us of his desire to publish Crysis 3, 4 and 5 in future.

While Crysis is Crytek's flagship series, Yerli also said there's much more to come from the company, which is looking to expand its horizons beyond the FPS market.

"We have a bigger ability now to expand with more games. As a company we can't just make shooters, we need to breed genuinely new forms of entertainment and interactive experiences... The genre may not even exist yet for that matter, so what we're keen on is games that offer new experiences for every moment the gamer plays."

Earlier Crytek told that Crysis 3 will be in 3D.

"Crysis on consoles for us is pretty much taking the ground that Crysis games will be 3D now and in the future," he said. "Console gamers haven't seen [the original] Crysis yet and when we launch Crysis 2 it's kind of like a re-launch of the franchise. We want to make sure people associate the Crysis brand with 3D gaming in the future.

"But we also want to make sure that it's for a reason - we want to turn the TV as well as the monitor in to a window into a new world. Once people play in 3D the way we've demonstrated, I don't think you'll want to not play in 3D ever again."

When asked if he thought there was any risk that 3D gaming could become a 'fad', Yerli added:

"I think that it will stay around. As soon as the first affordable 3DTVs arrive I think it's a no-brainer at that point, everyone will adapt. Initially there will be a more hardcore audience. I don't think every game will be 3D right away, but there will be some high-end production value games that will be 3D and will benefit from it."

Let's see what happens with Crysis 2. But I would've really appreciated if they created a new series instead of continuing this game. Just my opinion, Crysis lovers don't bite me.

It's not hard to make a story out of nowhere. Look at nowdays sequals. Main story finished? out of juice? no need to worry -rebarth/ reboot it or a missing link can be linked. I don't properly understand one thing. In entertainment business they invest tons of money to make the product appealing but most of the time the core thing, the backbone - story remains unnoticed. Is it really that hard to make a good story than spending billions of money?
