Default Interesting blog on why pcs are not getting enough respect

    http://blogs.pcmag.com/miller/2011/0...no_respect.php

Over the past month, we've seen some of the most interesting and most powerful personal computers ever.¤These machines are powered by Intel's Sandy Bridge chips, which promise a huge improvement in things like transcoding and encryption, as well as great integrated graphics; or by AMD's¤Fusion chips, which promise low-end machines with much better graphics along with good battery life.

Judging from the coverage at CES and the technology blogs since, the reaction has been ... a big yawn.I'm not completely sure why, but here are some ideas:

One issue is that the PC vendors themselves don't seem that excited. Consider CES: Intel and Microsoft had big booths, and both had areas where they were showing a bunch of new PCs. But Microsoft seemed to focus more on Windows Phone and Xbox with Kinect than the PC, perhaps because it didn't have a new PC product this year. (And the announcement that Windows would run on ARM didn't lend itself to showing this year's products.)

Intel was more PC focused, but even it seemed more interested in getting across the idea that its chips would work well in tablets. And although AMD had a good lineup of Fusion machines, it wasn't on the show floor, just in a meeting room.

    ......

But you could be forgiven for not paying much attention if you were walking by their booths.
In addition, for most of the companies in the PC ecosystem, the PC is a relatively small part of the business. At Apple, which used to be a pure PC company, PCs (specifically Macs, but those are just a type of personal computer) are now only about a quarter of the company's revenues. At HP, the Personal Systems group division accounts for less than third.

Sure PC growth is slowing. But even in a "down market," PCs are still growing.¤ It's certainly not the growth we're seeing in smartphones or tablets (though that's off a tiny base), but revenues are still quite high.

Another reason PCs aren't getting much attention is that they just aren't changing nearly as fast as phones or tablets,. Despite faster processors, a PC today is likely used for pretty much the same things as it was five years ago. Sure the online sites are different--Facebook has grown tremendously, as has online video--but the machines themselves haven't changed notably.

Just as importantly, while the PC has long stood out for being extensible--it's easy to add software to create documents, make spreadsheet, run business programs, communicate, and play all sorts of games--now other devices are changeable as well. Smartphones and tablets with app stores make those devices just as flexible--maybe even more so, since they are more easily portable.

With more and better software and evolving hardware support, it's possible we'll end up thinking of things like tablets just as another kind of personal computer in the years to come.

In the meantime, I was glad to see some different things, from 3D laptops to thinner ultraportables; from sliding tablets, to all-in-one desktops with touch screen displays (though those have been out for a while now) to tablets with slide-out keyboards, or even two displays and no keyboards (like the fascinating Acer Iconia).

Apple has a reputation for innovating in PC design, but with things like the HP Touchsmart, Acer Iconia, Dell Inspiron Duo,, and Lenovo LePad, others are trying to get into the game as well. And that's what the PC industry needs--someone to come up with a design that really captures everyone's imagination. Because now--while the machines are getting better and faster--PCs just don't seem to be getting much attention.

How about a 360 degrees sunglass intregraded to sync with the laptop and you like are 1-2 feet away from the laptop screen and still you can touch icons and your fingers are like mouse pointers,it's like a sunglass in front of you that shows the display and the motion sensor is used for your interaction, something like you're ACTUALLY in the computer.that'd be nice?

Only Microsoft can do that, because i mentioned a system similiar to kinect also, you are actually reaching out your hand and can click your icons.the kinect will be at the top of the screen.so,it gives a similiar feeling you're in your computer.

    Decently creative thinking by sony.

    Decently creative thinking by sony.
Here is a video of that display

And by 2020 3D will dominate and we won't need any stupid glasses. Fujitsu is already making a desktop PC only for japan that is 3D and doesn't need glasses

That's something different than the sony one.

That's more innovative than mine one, because it has a portable HDD in the headband which has the 3d movies/games whatever that stuff is . so,you can watch 3d wherever you go.
