Default Counter Strike Source: Orange Box (aka Source 2009)

Counter Strike Source: Orange Box (aka Source 2009)

    What you need to play:

    1) The game

    2) The latest patch or at least v32 patch.

    info:

    Get it here: http://css.setti.info/forum/topic/13...nosteam-setti/

The local torrent pack comes with v0- v27 of the patch, if you check this link you’ll see there are much newer ones.

Incremental Patches: v25-v26, v26-v27… these are incremental patches
Full Patches: v0-v36, you use these after a fresh installation of the game. If you updated using another patch, say 0-27 then you cannot use 0-28. Get the incremental patch instead (v27-v28)

That’s it, just install the game and the patch away.

    To install the patch:

    1) Place the patch in the game directory, with hl2.exe. I made a mistake in the local torrent pack saying the patch needs to be copied to the cstrike folder.
    2) Run it.
    3) You’re done.

    3) To play online:
    Servers:

    1) Run the game
    2) Click on favorites
    3) Add these servers, just copy the IP+port

    ZXOnline 24/7 Public Server - 114.130.28.26:27017
    -HUNTER-ZONE:BD 24/7 ORANGEBOX PUBLIC SERVER- 114.31.8.35:27015
    BDGaming- 114.31.4.246:27015

    4) Optimizing for your net connection:
    Info:

Every connection is different hence you need to test around with a few settings for optimal experience. Please remember that if you have loss on the server, then you cannot use the ‘best’ settings, it’ll just hamper your game, and annoy others.

Of course you need to first learn how to play to know which setting is ideal. You cannot spray from a mile away and then wonder why you didn’t hit the targets, and of course you cannot call them laggers but they get to call you noob.

Here are some settings that you need to tweak:

    rate XX000 (minimum 35000)
    cl_interp (0.010 – 0.030)
cl_interp_ratio (1-2; use higher values if you have loss/choke/high ping)

Note: There are some recommended settings for a few ISPs, you can see them after you join ZX, start off with those and proceed from there.

    How To Set Your Interp:

This is explained beautifully by J3Di (ZBlock developer):

You're concerned with 'area 9' the interpolation graph. (Check the attached image below)

Ideally you want that area all to be blue but with as little an interp value as possible.

Type net_graph 4 in the console and set your cl_interp to 0.06 and work down until you get to 0.015. Observe the graph until you start to get bits of red instead of blue lines.

This means your client is extrapolating frames and in that case animations will likely jitter and players might not appear in their exact position (but _very_ close). Then you just increase your interp a step so you're back to all blue, or nearly all blue. A tiny amount of red isn't that bad, but if it appears consistently your interp is too low.

I did some tests myself, and I get all blue with cl_interp 0.015. For further testing, I used some commands to fake lag loss etc. (net_fakelag /loss /jitter)

From my findings, users with loss will immediately see red bars if they have too low interps, so they must use a higher interp value.

Next I tested high pings but no loss. At first it seemed everything was ok, then suddenly when there were intense firefights, red bars started popping up. So again, use higher values.

Then the holy grail, downloading and playing. And no I did not fake loss or high ping when doing this. I got pings of 10 in game and 0 loss, download speed capped at 250kBps. (cnd's 56th filmfare awards ) And yes red bars

Note: Make sure you try with cl_interp_ratio 1 first. If too high a lerp is needed, then switch to cl_interp_ratio 2 and a lower cl_interp.

    5) Dealing with problems:
    Info:

Keep this in mind ‘If it is a server issue, every player will have the exact same issue.’ I say this because people never seem to admit problems on their end.

    Low FPS:

The most common issue is the problem with FPS. You need a modern PC to play with 100+ FPS, and yes lag is strongly tied with FPS. However when I say modern, I don’t mean a Core i7 +32GB RAM + NASA’s GPU. You just need a decent set and integrated graphics chipsets are well below ‘decent’.

If you have a dedicated GPU and still get low FPS, then use an FPS cfg. I have attached one with this post and that is modified for use with ZX. There’s one in the local torrent pack but that is outdated, so use this instead.

How to use the FPS cfg:

    1) Extract and copy the cfg file to X:\CSS\cstrike
    2) Open it using notepad and make changes if you want, change your name at least.
    3) Run the game and open the console (~ button)
    4) Type ‘exec spanky.cfg’ and press enter.

You should see a significant boost in FPS. No amount of tweaking will boost your game if an FPS cfg doesn't do it for you.

Note: if you don’t want the models ‘disappearing’, change the cl_ragdoll_physics_enable to 1 in the cfg and execute it again.

    Loss/Choke/Ping problems:

Simply put, you have to change your connection or ask your ISP to fix it (best of luck with this). You simply cannot ‘fix’ these. Loss is a problem with you sending data to the server.

Choke is data sent from the server to you and is usually fixed by using higher rates.

Ping is ping. No command can lower your ping.

    6) What NOT to do:
    info:

    1) Have a download running in the background and playing.

‘But I have a 2mb connection and the download is only at 128Kbps’

So? I personally tested this when I had 12Mbps sharing speed and just ran an external download with 512Kbps. The difference was obvious.

I’m still surprised to see that so many people have daruchini running in the background and then come to me complaining about ‘lag’ and ‘shitty server’. Very smart people.

    2) Calling others names. Do not think there will be a big loss if you are banned. Treat people like the way you want to be treated. You call someone fag, then he’ll call you bhog. That’s the way the world works

But of course if you are offended by something, don’t get your panties in a bunch, report it to the admin and be patient.

    3) Calling others ‘pro’. Yes I know this doesn’t sound right, but I’ve spoken with other players about this and it’s clear that everyone gets annoyed by this.

    4) Calling others ‘hackers/haxxors/hax’. First it’s praise, then it gets annoying, and then downright insulting.

If you feel someone is hacking, report him. If the admins clear him, then live with it. Yes there are that good players and yes there are insane shots made, nothing new.

Yes....it can ping the server but the timings are not that good....
About 240ms on average for 20 packets sent and received..............
My local ISP is fair broadband service.....when I asked them they said they
took the line from "telephone board".....So im guessing BTCl.....
I have to change my ISP right.........?

tin.man, you won't see the servers with such high ping. I personally get 5ms ping time and ingame 10-15ms. If you really want to play CSS then yes switching ISP is your only choice. Same goes for you Rakin.

You can also try ISPROs. They have very good coverage.
