Default More Ubisoft Talent Leaving For THQ

Former Ubisoft/Assassin's Creed star Patrice Désilets is already drawing talent away from his old employer.

In an interview with Joystiq, THQ's head of core games Danny Bilson said that the company was already working to bring over at least three unidentified developers from Ubisoft Montreal. "I don't think I can talk about the other three people we've already contracted because I wouldn't...I just know Patrice said, 'I need these three guys,' and I said, 'Okay! Whatever you need!'...I kind of know what their roles are, but they were the most important people to Patrice. All three of them are Ubi."

Désilets will head up THQ's Montreal studio, which doesn't official begin until May 29, so we eagerly await what he and his new team of old friends have in store.

So, it means awesome games without crappy DRM

    THQ Almost Signed Respawn

THQ head Danny Bilson has stated that the company has ambitions to compete with the big boys in the video game industry, and was extremely close to signing a deal with ex-Call of Duty heads Jason West and Vince Zampella's new studio Respawn Entertainment. However, a sticking point in the contract resulted in the would-be partnership falling apart.

In a story on Wired.com, both Bilson and West and Zampella said that they had positive talks, but ultimately neither side would budge on Respawn's insistence that the studio own its own IP.

“My responsibility to our stockholders and to my CEO and the company is to build an IP library,” Bilson said. Letting West and Zampella own the rights to their game, he said, would “open the doors for everyone else to say, ‘I wanna own it too.’”

For his part, Zampella commented, "As for the IP ownership, frankly, after what we’d just been through with Activision, owning the IP we were going to create was important to us. Unfortunately, THQ did not want to agree to that,” he said.
