Lightbulb Battlefield 3 PC getting “special effort” With No XP Support

Battlefield 3 lead designer David Goldfarb has said the PC version of the upcoming shooter is getting some “special effort”.

Goldfarb was answering a question in a tweet. He said:

“it will not be exclusive. We are putting special effort into the pc version, even for us, it’s extraordinary.”

It comes as talk on the much-anticipated shooter starts ramping up. EA CEO John Riccitiello said, despite it not being formally announced yet, it would release within the final six months of 2011.

DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson also said overnight that gamers getting the PC version would have to upgrade to Windows Vista or Windows 7 from XP or they will miss out.

A talk on Battlefield 3 will take place at GDC in March, which seems to indicate a reveal is coming sooner then later.

A multiplayer beta is included in copies of Medal of Honor for PS3, 360 and PC.
Battlefield 3 to drop support for Windows XP

DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson has laid down the law regarding Battlefield 3’s system requirements, and those final pockets of Windows XP resistance are faced with an ultimatum: upgrade, or forget about playing one of the biggest shooters of the decade.

According to Andersson, the series’s new engine is heavily reliant on newer tech.

“Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11. XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended,” he tweeted.

This bald statement of fact confirms rumours from way back in 2007, when the prospect of dropping XP seemed much more onerous.

Battlefield 3 is expected whenever the notoriously perfectionist DICE think its finished with it, although EA is aiming for the third or fourth quarter this year.

    I saw that news already.
I hope that "special effort" doesn't mean "special port" for pc like gta4 or nfs hp.

EA confirms GDC reveal for Battlefield 3

Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Put it in your diary. EA will finally unveil much-antcipated DICE shooter sequel Battlefield 3 on that date.

The game will form part of an EA Partners press event at GDC which will include other new game announcements as well as show off a rift of other titles. They include:

-Shadows of the Damned (Grasshopper Manufacture)
    -Alice: Madness Returns (Spicy Horse)
-Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning (38 Studios)
    -Crysis 2 (Crytek)
    -Battlefield Play4Free (Easy Studios)

Talk on BF3 has ramped up as of late, with GDC dev sessions confirmed for the Moscone Center in San Francisco come March.

EA CEO John Riccitiello confirmed before Christmas that the game, which had invites to its multiplayer beta included with copies of Medal of Honor, will release within the final six months of 2011.

Other then all that, not much else has spilt since last July’s beta announcement. That all changes come March 1.

    From IGN and D’Toid.
