Default ThermalTake Core X9 vs Corsair Air 540 vs V71 , which is best for water cooling 3 Gpu?

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to pick your brain a little about which case I should go for. I am planning to water cool my hackintosh based 3 Gpu (not in SLI) which will be the core of my octane GPU based render farm. Now if I water cool my cards, I will get a massive 30-40% boost in speed. Now I need a case that will have plenty of room for airflow even after all the water cooling parts. Would love to have a 900D or a caselab ST10 but I have three choices within my budget:

    1. X9
    2.Air 540
    3. V71.

    540:

I really like the air 540 because the right side will take care of psu (I may have to add another one later) and cable routing and the heat dissipates to the right or at least to the top of right side. Problem is, it is quite small. To current users of this case, it may look big but once you try to put in everything, (3/4 cards, water cooling) it gets cramped in there. I am currently having a mail-conversation on few people on youtube and they said you gotta pick the parts really carefully caz every mm maters inside that case.

    X9

I am being told over and over again that its a case modders dream. But I am looking for simplicity and ease of use as well as functionality. Now the case looks big. But I am finding it difficult to see any good example of a build that I like. I have seen this but I don't like how the Psu is on the bottom. I would have moved it to right side and I am not planning removing all the hdd bays. I will put my ssd and just one hdd somewhere and save cluster to ensure airflow. I dont use dvd drive.

    V71:

I find this one the most specious. But I prefer compartmentalisation of heated parts and cable like 540, or even x9 more than this one tower kinda setup. May be using a simple plate to separate the psu like in 900D? I would much like it if the psu was on top end rather than the bottom.

help, suggestions, rants everything welcome brothers. As I am going to get his sorted very quick Inshallah.

    Wassalam.

I suggested you the core x9 at gaming gear :v
You can fit the biggest available radiators in this thing. What else do you want ?

You could always put the water cooling kit in the second chamber. There are plenty water cooling mod tutorials doing that with that case on YouTube.

Core x9 for MOD. It will meet ur needs and even more.

But I would rather have the Air 540 among this three. ( No particular reason, I just like the looks better )

You aint the only one bro. man, I like that case very much because of its innovative efficient design. I might even end up buying that one for monetary reasons. computersource takes my card and will give a 6 month 0% EMI so I can get like 50k worth of stuff. Thats how they have been selling their overpriced stuff to me!!!

I have been thinking about putting the cooling kit in the second chamber. It just having a lot of room is always nice even when you watercool. I would like to have my air cooling going on as well as water cooling with one big rad. Some experts in my field (octane's gpu-based rendering) are going to extreme measures. One of them suggested an external rad. This is what he said :

    "
I'm coming with article about external watercooling soon =) where I'm going to list some great options.. but jsut to give You an idea =) something like this Aquacomputer rad with integrated d5 pump would work great =) Yeah, You're probably need more than that, but..having pump/res rad in one unit You can save on all the fittings & thus minimise leaking problems too =) quick disconnects on the back of that case should do the work if You need to transport Your rig - so basically what You left is waterblocks inside, & maybe a rad in You rig "

hey cheers bro. I am seriously thinking of this case because of the expandability options it provides. What I like about it is radiator support and it is big!! Costs so little as well! Also I like the stacking options. If I get this, I can see myself stacking a smaller x2 later (if that is possible) or even another x9. This would become a dream if I could move the motherboard tray vertically and divide the case not horizontally but vertically making this case a superior air 540.

Could you please give me some links who have modded it? Mind you that my needs are for performance, not gaming or aesthetics.

Thanks. I did take your advise though. That is why it is on my list!!
