Default AMD Radeon 6870: Good OR Bad

I read a couple of reviews and I'm confused whether to spend my 18000 taka on the 6870 GPU. Please give your opinions on whether I should buy it or not and if not which GPU should I buy.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

For Tk18000, its probably the best card you can get at the moment. It performs slightly worse than 5870 but performs a lot better when it comes to tessallation. So, in short, go for it!

Not to overclockers. The Superclocked has very little OC headroom, so the performance cant really be increased with overclocking. HD6870 on the other hand can be overclocked, so it has an added advantage

But at stock speeds, the 460 SC is a better buy since its cheaper and performs about the same

The EVGA one can be OC'd safely by about a 100MHz more. Also safely making it perform above the 5850. But I don't know how it compares against the 5870/6870.

EVGA superclocked can be gotten for $210 wheras 6870 retails for more than $250. So why waste 40 bucks more for same performance ?

And OC version er difference ase onek. Oitar default speed hocche 850Mhz jekhane GTX 460 normal stock core speed 675Mhz ...... so onekkk difference .......... u dont need to mess around with OC settings ....... just plug and play at full speed .....

And longetivity kisher dorkar ? Akta graphics card max 3 years bhalo fps dey ...... er pore it goes outdated ......... Aikhane 6870 ba GTX 460 koyjoni ba use korbe in 2013/2014 ??? By then most people will move to different gpus ....

Jaihok reviews of 6870 in anandtech have suggested to go for EVA superclocked over 6870 since EVGA one is quite cheaper for same performance ..... their reviews are quite comprehensive and i like them most .....

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/a...ange-market/21

At the top end we have the Mexican standoff between the recently price-reduced GTX 470, the newly released Radeon HD 6870, and the overclocked GTX 460 as represented by the EVGA GTX 460 1GB FTW. At $260 the GTX 470 is several percent faster than the 6870, and at only $20 more NVIDIA has done a good job pricing the card. If performance is your sole concern, than the GTX 470 is hard to beat at those prices – though we suspect NVIDIA isn’t happy about selling GF100 cards at such a low price.
Meanwhile if you care about a balance of performance and power/heat/noise, then it’s the 6870 versus the EVGA GTX 460; and the EVGA card wins in an unfair fight. As an overclocked card in a launch card article we’re not going to give it a nod, but we’re not going to ignore it; it’s 5% faster than the reference 6870 while at the same time it’s cooler and quieter (thanks in large part to the fact that it’s an open-air design). At least as long as it’s on the market (we have our doubts about how many suitable GPUs NVIDIA can produce), it’s hard to pass up even when faced with the 6870.

WTH...I didn't know an OC'd 460 was faster than a 6870 or a 470 for that matter. A senior friend of mine bought a Palit 470 for 21k BDT from Malaysia. That is one worthy purchase!

Default Re: AMD Radeon 6870: Good OR Bad

As I said before, it entirely depends on the person. Some are comfortable overclocking the GPU themselves, in which case the HD6870 is a better buy. People who are not comfortable overclocking their GPU would be better off getting the GTX 460 SC. There is a ~$30 price difference though, so if that matters by all means go for the 460 SC.

BTW, the driver update thing, its a moot point. Whenever a new GPU is released for both camps, they dont optimise games for older gen cards. Do you see nvidia touting performance improvements for the GT2xx series now? Not really. Same goes with AMD

^^thats why i told about driver update.as 5xx r out ,nv will optimise 4 only 5xx later...nd,4 amd 5xxx is old so no opti mization 4 those...as they will continue improving with 6xxx , 6870's performance will increase...thats why i told about d driver improve.

Driver is not an issue between choosing cards. Akta game manush maximum 1 week khele for campaign. Multiplayer to khelei na maximum lok. Aitar jonno kisu fps difference matter kore na.

And important question to sakinsarwar, wat resolutions do u play at ? Ajkaal GTX 460 and 6870 er performance much sufficient for gaming at 1920x1080. Maximum lok bd te i guess aro niche khele and so kisu fps aidik oidik matter kore na. Remember perhaps all of us are limited by 60Hz LCD monitors. So anything above 60fps is useless unless u want screen tearing. (CRT use korle different bepar)

And 6870 baire BDT 18000 i porbe. Cheaper na. It costs $250 on average. Aro beshi o pore in fact for some brands.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE.
bro u said u were gonna get a core i3. So u need to oc it to at least 4-4.5ghz. Even after that an oc'ed 6870 might bottleneck. So i think u should get a gtx460 nd then see wheather oc'ing improves performance.

An i3 at 4+ ghz will not bottleneck a Hd 68xx/GTX 460 card, unless its a heavily multi-threaded game constantly utilising >2 cores.

won't the 6870 bottleneck when it's oc'ed to the limit? I just wanna know.
