Thread: XFX ATI 5670 problem

  1. #1

    Default XFX ATI 5670 problem

My current set up ( very crappy and stupid):blushing:

    Pentium Dual core 3.0.
    512 x2 = 1GB RAM
    Asus P5GC-MX motherboard, LGA 775 (intel 945GC+ ICH7),
    Windows XP SP2 32 bit,
    250GB winstar digital HDD.
Asus 17inch LCD. (currently set at 65hz for safety)
Crappy *piece o sh*t* 400w "Space" psu (thats what the brand says)

recently i have purchased an XFX 5670 from UCC.

I installed it today in my mother board PCI exp 16x slot. Connected the monitor, everything ran fine and smooth,
but just when I went to install the 'driver' that i got with the GPU box, the pc restarted itself. Every time i tried to install it, it restarted.

So i took suggestions from friend and he told me to download a new driver/soft , and I did and installed that driver.
This time PC did not restart or anything, everything went fine.
Then i installed an old game (splinter cell 1 ) and in the middle of the game, everything paused and this error showed. (pic below)
Page scrolling also started to become a bit 'lagged' and 'drowsy'. lol

My instincts tell me i may need a new PSU.
But i need to be absolutely sure what could be the problem?

The driver that i downloaded from net is this >

Its better use the ati driver instead of the windows driver!
& he has 1GB of ram so its better to stick with xp unless another 1GB is added.

So u can install a fresh xp again and try with some old driver like 10.8.

It could be a hardware problem

    a) I heard one of the reasons which causes VPU RECOVER to act is when the card becomes too hot. Download RivaTuner and click on the hardware monitoring and let it record the temp in the background while you play the game for a while. See if the highest recorded temp is too high

    b) It could also be the game, some pirated games are poorly cracked and cause problems. Try playing a different game and see if it happens again.

    c) It may be a driver problem, go to http://xfxforce.com/en-us/Help/Support.aspx and register your product to download the driver from there. They slightly customize the catalyst drivers for their graphics cards.

thanks for the replies, the current driver i have also has the heat monitoring system i think.
    here it is.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

But the question, is why is it getting over heated? is it because lack of power ? wattage?, isnt this 5670 capable of running without heat problem?. It is supposed to be efficient than 4XXX cards right?.
The temp shown in that picture never gets over 60'C.

PS: By the way, the driver I am using is the latest one as suggested in this thread.

Not 10.11 something, its actually 10.11 (WHQL version), so driver version is not a problem here. And from the screenshot I can see the card is clocked down (idle mode). Run a stress test application like Furmark and see how hot it gets. I don't think its heat problem, but give it a try. Make sure your PSU is OK. Unbranded PSUs suck ___. You may try another PSU or dual PSU setup or test the card on a friend's PC. Suppose it did not solve the issue. Then...

    # Download and install driver sweeper.

    # Express uninstall all ATI software.

    # Uninstall the video card driver from device manager and if it wants a reboot, do so but remember to boot in safe mode. If you do not, you will have to repeat this step again.

    # Run driver sweeper in safe mode and choose "ATI - Display" and click on clean. It will ask for a reboot, do so.

Your problem should be solved. Driver sweeper will clean the registry as well as leftover files and prepare your system for a clean driver installation. If all of these do not solve the problem, clean install your OS (I recommend Windows 7).

ati heat monitoring can't show you the heat during load......download hwmonitor and keep it running during games.......what's the amperage of +12v rail of your crappy psu??? I can't understand why the current value of gpu/memory clock r too low....get a delta 400W @ 3k.... reinstall driver & keep ati overdrive untouched....test ur ram using memtest86.......u should upgrade it upto 3gb...

^rakin is right.if u oc or down clock ur amd 5xxxcard it increase its 2d clock(both mem, gpu).it is normal coz it is coded in d bios.u can fix this by moding bios.

Shuvo89 1.first upgrade ur psu.it is endangering ur pc's life.
    2.then try

    event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

    for load-time clock,fanspeed,temp monitoring
    3.then try some other 3d stress programs,games
    4.try older drivers.10.8,10.4
5.format ur os. nd try xpsp3 or win7(better)

Graphics card don't use the full core speed when not necessary just like the CPU EIST technology.
My Sapphire HD4770 runs normally @250Mhz but when i play games it increases to 750Mhz.
    I don't overclock it
