Default PhysX with ATI Radeon card

A friend of mine is going to buy an ATI Radeon HD 6870 GPU. So he asked me if he can use another GPU such as a 9500 GT for PhysX. He uses a Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 motherboard.

Put the NVIDIA card into your 2ndary PCI-EX slot, fire up yr machine and boot into windows.

Extend yr desktop (this requires some particular instructions, plz call me if you need help or google). Apply the patch available at 'ngohq' and restart. Run any physx based app.

    Well, here is the procedure.

Installation steps (driver installation instructions are only for Windows 7)

    1. Install ATI card, install Catalyst driver and shut down.
    2. Install Nvidia card. Connect a dummy VGA to that.
    3. Install the needed GeForce driver package. Update PhysX System Software (only 9.10.0223or later) if needed.
    4. Extend your desktop to the second "fake" monitor. If you have two monitors, you can skip all "dummy VGA" steps.

    5. In your case, you will see only one imaginary monitor instead of two as shown in the screenshot above. Then, you might want to drag them up to the corner of the main monitor so that you don't lose your mouse pointers very often. You will have to move the mouse to the corner to enter in the "imaginary" monitors.

    6. Use the mod to patch all needed files and registry values automatically. Run the patch in safe mode.
    7. Use command line files to set a desired configuration (this step is optional, in case you do not have any "Enable Physx" option in Nvidia Control Panel).
    8. Test with any PhysX compatible software like fluidmark to see if PhysX is working.

The link to the Hybrid PhysX mod 1.04ff is here. If the link is broken, just google for another link. This mod is reported to work with the latest 258.xx drivers as I am writing this post.

Don't go for the "cheapest" one. A 9600GT or better is recommended. Go lower, and you will be bottlenecked by your PPU (= PhysX Processing Unit). For example, in PhysX intensive areas, where you should get smooth 60+ fps, you will get choppy 10ish fps.

Default Re: PhysX with ATI Radeon card

Sorry i couldn 't write in detail then, i had to rush for uni. Now im going to bed, but b4 dat,

Guyz, u cn simply skip the fake display thing. I only mentioned that for ppl who have PhysX mod 1.03 and below, as that 's how i explained to evry1 previously and so now i didn 't want to raise any confusion.

U won 't be needing to create a fake dispaly at all if you 're going to use 1.04ff. And if u 've to run Mafia 2 and nething after it that requires PHYSX, it 's mandatory that u use 1.04ff, bcz 1.03 works only for Physx 9.10.0222 and below. Mafia requires "9.10.0512" to be installed as a pre-requisite in order to start-up.

Just a word of advice, do not install the '0512' Physx installer that comes with Mafia II. It could be a pain in the axx, like it was for me and many others. Rather install a standalone copy of the "0513" Physx installer.

    So,
First, install the GeForce drivers. Then the standalone PhysX installer, if required.
Then restart and apply the patch (Just execute the exe and hit apply). Now restart and run Physx based apps.

*You don 't have to get into safe mode to apply the patch.

Rakin, how many times have i told you that at least a 9600GT is recommended in every intl forum by experienced users ?

You keep asking the same question again and again, just that everytime u come up with a new inferior card.

And if u 've to run Mafia 2 and nething after it that requires PHYSX it 's mandatory that u use 1.04ff, bcz 1.03 works only for Physx 9.10.0222 and below.

Sorry Bro aar ask korbo na.....
