Default [IEM] - [Review] - VSonic GR02 Bass Edition (Upgraded-ish?)

A few year ago, on the dedicated audio forum head-fi.org, a phenomenal audio manufacturer called VSonic appeared. Vsonic was in no way an established brand like klipsch and Ety research, however, the sound was almost perfect according to a lot of people. Thus, began a new age of reliance of chinese makers of IEMs targeting <100$ market. Now, I haven't been in the recent IEM fever inside Bangladesh. For all I care, I just wanted a good pair of in-ears when I started searching for it. My first purchase was Logitech UE200. Now, the UE200 was very good if you consider the sound and the accessories.

Before that, I mostly used earbuds, and used the in-ears that came with Sony Ericsson K750i.

A few days ago, I was looking for an iem within the 40$ price bracket. I had a lot of choices, and my personal favourite in terms of design and rumored sounds would be the TTPod T1-E.

However, after various debates with @Frank3nstein and @SadmanBD , I decided to pull the trigger on VSonic GR02 Bass Edition.

Now, first of all, let me be clear. I never trusted VSonic reviews, atleast not from head-fi. It's because VSonic is an official partner of that forum. Plus, the rumor of an IEM that rivals the sounds of the same company's 170$ IEM aka VSonic GR07 Bass Edition was too good to be true. Yes, that might be possible when the original R02 ProII came out, and when the GR02 Bass Edition was in it's infancy. But such is not the case anymore.

Anyways, I am still happy with my purchase. Before buying them, I thought that I might sell them off if they sounded bad.

It was about 5 o clock in the evening when I was standing in front of my college with the shipping money when a courier arrived and dropped off two VSonic GR02 Bass Editions(One for me and another for Tarek.) I immediately tore the box off and understood that it was a huge mistake, because i got 14 pairs of hybrid tips, with one bi-flange already on the iem. I decided to try the IEM on an iPhone 4S. The track of choice was Daft Punk's Get Lucky.[Cliche, I know.]

After I got home, I plugged the IEM to my speakers, and god damnit, it was so ¤¤¤¤ing awful. I didn't have any other device to try the IEM to try on, I use a shitty alcatel phone. I decided to ask mum to give me her LG E400 that I once used as a temporary android device.

And finally, the IEM was much, much better. Still, I couldn't hear the hype. WTF head-fi, This was your best shot?

I went to sleep that night and decided the IEM to burn in for like 4 hours.

And voila, the sound had changed!

And now I'm completely happy with them. They are STRICTLY not for EDM listeners. You're better off listening to classic rock and stoner rock and fuzzy guitar tracks. But it's not like EDM listeners wouldn't completely feel home. It's just that you can't hear the clarity in the song, and clarity is half the fun in an electro track, IMO.

    So, Tl;dr.

Why would you buy this : To have a semi-permanent solution from your shitty earbuds and beats replicas that you get in the local market. Seriously. This IEM is way more awesome.

Current price : 34$ from LENDMEUREARS, link specified on top. Bought for 25$ from LENDMEUREARS during Black Friday sale via Graffiti+

Preferred Tips : Bi-Flange, Everything else is useless. Get Comply T-400 if you can.

Accessories : (7/10), pointless hybrids. Very uncomfortable. '

Build Quality : (7.5/10), strain relief is much better. Shape is much more useful. You can sleep with them in your ears.

Isolation : (2.5/5), Bi flanges provide a good seal. Others, not so much.

Comfort : (3.3/5), again, uncomfortable using hybrids. Bi flanges make things much better. More comfortable than the UE200 I had.

Sound : (6.9/10), Overhyped. Keep in mind that older users are bound to give better reviews because they have better cable, silver cable as far as I recall. And I got snake skin-ish cables instead, used in shitty sennheiser chinese ripoffs. They do look cool, but apparently they screw the bass beyond repair. Still, great IEM. has bass, and enough clarity and soundstage. Sufficient in everything, however not the best.

Value : (8.5/10), the Vsonics are very nice IEMs, using a design that has survived the test of time, and passed. The IEM has way too many eartips that are kind of completely useless. They're just for show off. Otherwise, if you like a BUNCH OF ¤¤¤¤ with your IEM, sure bro, have them. IDC. But for 26$, this is a really sweet deal. There are very few IEMs worth recommending in this range.

The only review that you will find of the GR02 BEs in Head-fi is ||joker||'s, and even if he might have tried 300+ Iems, in terms of Vsonic, he is a FANBOY. When I say there are better alternatives within the range, I do mean it. Although I haven't tried any of them, I plan to do so in the near future. Till then, adios.

Have some tasteful images from my facebook.

Oh, and I have better chances of getting a girlfriend than fitting a pair of tips on the huge nozzle..

There are so many things I disagree with you here like the clarity and the bass. I have used SoundMagic E10 which is really bassy but not very balanced. On the other hand, GR02BE is bassier and balanced. As for clarity, E10 is VERY clear, well may be not as much as E30 but still very clear. GR02BE tops that.

And trust me, I have used a few budget IEMs and there isn't any better in this price range.

    Let it burn for more.
