Decent headset under 4k?
Hello there, fellow BanglaGamers!
I was planning to buy headsets. They will not be used for gaming. I want something that-
• Has a decent mic
• Is good looking
• Is new (not refurbished/used)
You see, the mic gets the priority here. The sound quality of the headphone part of the headset is certainly a bonus nonetheless. I'll be buying two units, if available.
Intended use: Skype
Budget: ~4k each, that makes ~8-10k total for 2 units.
If you have anything to suggest, please do share below! If anything from amazon/ebay fits my price range, I'll surely consider them too. But I'll prefer options from the local market since the sooner I get them, the better.
If you want in ear you can go for skullcandy 50/50 each 3.5k.
I'm using one for listening to music and skype/viber, so far im happy with it.
koss sb-45, its decent and the standard headphone for toefl examination due to its mic having nice noise cancelling feature. But they are 100 ohm so u might need a decent sound card to drive them.
Although I'd prefer an over the ear model, this one actually looks good. However, the headsets are intended to be used with PC and thus, shall need an Y-splitter to separate mic and stereo. Speaking of which, does anyone know where to get them?

I always wondered if it is right to use IEMs designed for portable devices with PC. Generally IEMs are very low impedance, 8-16ohms, where PC headsets are ~32ohms. I've personally noticed severe clipping and distortion when trying to use 8ohm IEMs with PC and Laptop if I dont set very low volumes. But not sure if that would have damaged the IEMs.
Although newer ultrabooks and laptops with 4pin TRRS jacks are supposed to be optimized more for low impedance IEMs, they should be fine.
Never encountered an 8ohm iem so far.mine is about 17ohm,i'm not sure but i can measure that tomorrow morning. According to maximum power transfer theorem both the input and output impedance should match, if not max power won't be transferred to the load and frankly we don't need that either, even 50% should suffice. With lower impedance yes chances of heavily loading the op amps might be a possibility but i don't think 16-32 will make huge difference.
Newer ultrabook or laptops are not optimized for those which i am pretty sure of but there's absolutely nothing to worry about either.

Running lower impedance headphones with higher gain sources like PC or even worse case, headphone amps does severly distort and clip the audio. Confirmed by NwAVGuy on his blog. He knows about audio electronics more than any of us.
Well, I'm not looking at "long" conversations: maybe 1 hour or so in which case the over the ear model should work just fine, provided that the ear cushion is comfy. Also, most of my host machines have separate headphone + microphone ports. So, the only way to use in-ear models is to use a splitter. I've looked at some places but couldn't find it. Any suggestions?

There could be some budget Headsets from Sony, Sol Republic, Panasonic or JVC. Personally don't buy skullcandies at all please, they are kind of overrated right now.
If you could, get the Sennheiser 429 HD
