Default Re: Intel or AMD ???

AMDs have the best bang for the buck.
Intel holds the performance crown till now -- and that comes at a premium.

The price diff between them in the international mkt has also narrowed in recent times. Diff between i7-920/30 + X58 mobo and a Hexacore +890FX mobo would be approx USD130+.

All these speculations aside - it will b like b4 when AMD processors were available. Those on a budget went for k6/k7 - those with mucho moolah chose the PIII procs.
More gamers wud move towards the 965 BEs. Even professionals wud go for the hexa cores.

    There wud of course b the niche of ppl going for the 'posh effect' with the Intels. {Intels r more powerful " the moment}

[SORRY I WROTE AN IELTS ESSAY]

AMD, I WUD CHOOSE. BD MARKET NEEDS A BREAK FROM GREEDY MONOPOLISTS.

Default Re: Intel or AMD ???

C'mon guys, this might be the chance which we were looking for so many years. Intel was ALWAYS in BD, u don't have to worry about Intel's exsistance in BD, Intel will always remain. I'm saying this @ those persons who are saying that Intel FTW!! AMD Sux etc. etc. without any proper explanation.

AMD is... great. Greater than Intel in some price points. Some of their processors are great bang for the buck. I vote for AMD.
And, I would've gone for Phenom II X6 1055T/1090T Hexa-core with... I'll add the mobo later, can't remember now.

Go with AMD if you do not care about benchmarks and want to spend as little as possible for good performance.

Go with Intel if you want to show off your benchmarks and do not mind adding a few thousands to your budget.

For example, AMD offers hexacore CPUs at ~$200 range which loses to similarly priced Intel quadcores in most benchmarks. But in everyday use and gaming, people report similar performances, in some cases AMD offers a smoother experience as it has 2 more cores.

Proton Chain - do u have any instance/reports where day-2-day gaming is reported to be just as good with the hexas? I want to know (not challenging u). Yes u r ryt, the hexas are strong @ Fotoshop, vdo encoding, etc work. Experts say hexas r wasted on games as most games only use 2 cores! But 6 cores shud provide some future-proof features. Supposedly and sadly - AMDs hexa line-up is slower than the i5-750!

[off-topic]: How much real world difference do you assume there will b in a gaming rig with 1055T/1090T as opposed to one with i7-930?

Simply put: AMD=great price but loses out by 5-10% performance to Intel processors.

AFAIK, AMD's game support isn't as good as intel. i7-930 performs a bit faster in games than 1090T now-a-days. However, games aren't properly using quads either, hats off to Nvidia...

Yes, I also think that 1090T/1055T will be a BIT future-proof, but don't expect much. AFAIK, 20% games will gain performance for having additional two cores, but in 80% other games, both i7-930 and 1090T will perform same, even in future..

Well, that's what I think.
