Thread: Ninja Gaiden 3 revealed

    Default Ninja Gaiden 3 revealed

Hack and slash sequel Ninja Gaiden 3 was shown behind closed doors at the Tokyo Game Show today. Japanese publisher Tecmo Koei took the lid off of the game with a solitary image.

Apparently we'll see series star Ryo Hayabusa's more human side, and discover more about him. It's also a more violent and bloody experience, although we can't possibly imagine how. The image below holds clues.

The report suggests Ryo, like so many videogame characters these days, will be visiting hell and kicking ¤¤¤. No release date or platforms were mentioned. The announcement comes as no surprise, as last year Team Ninja's new boss promised Ninja Gaiden would return. And that it would do so as a multi-platform game. . .

"We feel that we're in a position of being able to make that call, and to provide pure entertainment that's going to be enjoyed by action gamers and our fans," he said. "That calling is already there - we feel it, and therefore we will continue to work towards a future for the series."

Attending a behind-closed door reveal earlier today, the image of Ryo Hayabusa holds secrets of the game to come. Ryu is pulling off his mask to represent a more human side to the series' protagonist and the idea that players will discover more about him.
Ryu also has blood on his face, representing a more violent and bloody experience to Ninja Gaiden 2.

You can also see a reflection of a person in Ryu's eye, perhaps suggesting an inner darkness which he is trying to contain - the likelihood is this darkness will manifest itself with new abilities.

The flames represent Ryu's descent into a hellish realm and the hell he plans to unleash on his foes.

We've also noticed something peculiar looking under the right eye that looks too specific to be just a blood smear.

No it wasn't! I was not good at it at all but my elder bro could beat the game in arcades with only 1 single credit! It's hard to do the same with the keyboard using mame32 to emulate the game, the game had good music which isn't perfectly emulated on pc as well so it sort of cuts down the fun factor..

A few new details have emerged as to what players can expect from the forthcoming Ninja Gaiden 3, including first mention of a multiplayer mode and, surprise surprise, more of the red stuff.

According to Gamesthirst, Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi told PlayStation: The Official Magazine that the game will delve deep into hero Ryu Hyabusa's no doubt troubled psyche.

"We are focusing Ryu as a dark Japanese hero," he explained. "There won't be new playable characters, but we'll focus more deeply on Ryu Hyabusa's life and lifestyle and feelings and thoughts."

"We are trying to take the violent concepts even deeper and make people realise how it feels to actually kill someone and what it is to actually gut someone.

"It's very important to us that people realise that violence is not only about blood and gore."

Elsewhere in the interview Hayashi promised a "complex multiplayer mode", while the series' infamous learning curve is also apparently getting attention.

"We know that many fans feel good about the difficulty level, but we are taking a slightly different approach," explained Hayashi.

"It's not that the game's going to be easier – nothing like that. It's just that we are trying to make a whole game, a more exciting game that can be enjoyed by anyone.

    Ninja Gaiden 3: First details

    8-player multiplayer, co-op modes...

The first Ninja Gaiden 3 details have arrived, via the pages of Official PlayStation Magazine US.

At first glance it sounds like what you'd expect; tons of blood, a solid 60fps framerate and Ryu slicing up soldiers in a dark rainy street, before climbing up the side of a wall with daggers.

In more good news for fans, Team Ninja's told OPM it won't be toning down the difficulty of the game for casual gamers.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is said to carry a larger emphasis on Ryu's backstory, with no other playable characters planned at this stage.

In a further step towards building deeper story progression, the developer's also axed the game's weapon store, and Ryu's tools will now upgrade as the game progresses.

More interesting are the developer's plans for multiplayer; Team Ninja says the new game will support up to eight players in co-op and versus modes, and it's even considering support for PlayStation Move.

Speaking with OXM earlier this year Hayashi promised that the third instalment in the gore-fest series will be a "paradigm shift", and won't repeat the over-familiar design some criticised in Ninja Gaiden 2.
