Default How to overclock p4 2.26?

    Hello guys,
I need to OC my Pentium 4 2.26GHz/512/533 which is running on Intel DG865. I didn't find any OC-ing option in the BIOS (maybe I didn't search thoroughly), so if anyone can help please let me know.

P.S.: Please tell me step by step, as I have never done this before.

First about the processor.....yes this processor can be OCed....i OCed it to 2.78 GHz....and it was totally stable...

Now the problem.....you see at that time Intel did not support overclocking at all...so none of the intel chipsets/motherboards support OCing..

I used that processor on a ECS mobo...which had via chipset..
    and it worked beautifully...

Now another problem....DO NOT OVERVOLT THIS PROCESSOR...NEVER DO IT.....this processor is what called a Northwood chip....Northwood processors are notorious for one problem...that is SND....Sudden Northwood Death.....you see these processors dies prematurely if overvolted...

If I were you, instead of "buying" a mobo that will enable the overclocking of "[email protected]", I would've thrown it away and got a more powerful system. I mean you could possibly be benefited swapping mobos and overclocking an i7, but swapping mobos and overclocking the p4 is not worth it any more.

By the way, I can be mistaken but do you know how overclocking works? From what you said, it seems that you are thinking of "permanently" assigning a custom clock speed to your CPU. That is not possible. Your CPU will run at its stock speed, always. What "overclocking" means is that your BIOS will force your CPU to run at a custom speed for a limited amount of time. Its temporary, so you cannot overclock it from a friend's mobo and place it here and still get that clock.

Default Re: How to overclock p4 2.26?

When exactly did you buy that P4, brother? P4s are quite old now you see. At least get a pinless solution with a Pentium Dual Core or Celeron Dual Core. That will put you on a much safer side at a minimum cost. Celeron Dual Cores are cheap like anything these days. Changing a motherboard just to overclock a P4 is not much of a good idea, I say.

Speaking of the fact that this is your second PC and you are not going to buy one soon, I really have to say few things. Nowadays technological advancements are so fast, you cannot even imagine when the latest of the latests will become backdated. Really, think about it. A person who got himself a Core i7 980X today must have to change his processor by 2012 to stay at the top of the hill. Even 4GB of RAM will become obsolete in a year or so. Now you get 1TB HDDs. Soon, 5, 10 or even 25TB will become a standard. This is reality. Multicore processing has just begun. Very soon, there will be sixteen, thirty-two or more computational processor cores for end users. brother, what will you think then about your PC? Even if you upgrade now, you cannot expect it to last even five years without any upgrades, provided you want to keep up with latest games (and apps).

Get at LEAST a core 2 duo (all dual cores are not the same, mind it) if you want to taste the current generation. Any lower, and you will not even be able to "taste" it at all. They are real cheap now a days. Frequency doesn't matter, even a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo will give you at least 3 times the performance of your current p4.
