Default AMD Radeon HD 6870 benchmarks ?

AMD Radeon HD 6870 benchmarks ?
    By Hilbert Hagedoorn, August 31, 2010 - 8:28 PM

The colleagues over at VR Zone found some benchmark results of what is said to be the AMD Radeon HD 6870 graphics card, the info is really dodgy though. The numbers were published at the Asian PCinlife Forums, it includes 3DMark Vantage Extreme & Performance, Crysis Very High and Unigine Heaven scores.

The card delivers a score of X12092 in the 3DMark Vantage Extreme benchmark, and P24499 in the Performance benchmark. It's about 20 percent faster than the GeForce GTX 480, and closing in on the dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970. Here are the Crysis and Unigine scores:

But, can it play Crysis? At Very High, 1920x1200, 4x AA, the HD 6870 comfortably plays along at 43.55 fps. The minimum fps is 29.57. Crysis has been well and truly conquered at HD resolutions with high IQ settings. At these kind of settings, previous single GPU cards barely broke 30 fps average, which means the HD 6870's minimum framerate is the same as the average of HD 5870 / GTX 480. Remarkable!

Unigine's Heaven tessellation has been and one of the biggest weaknesses of the HD 5000 series, possibly signifying weak tessellation performance for future games. On the other hand, it was GTX 400's strongest benchmark, with the GTX 480 proving to be an incredible 75% faster than the HD 5870 for the (unrealistic) Extreme preset. Typical scores for 1920x1200 4xAA Extreme are 900+ for the GTX 480 and 500+ for the HD 5870.

Amazingly, the HD 6870 scores a whopping 922, which is a massive increase over the HD 5870 and puts it on par with the GTX 480. Do note, however, that the previous results were on Heaven 2.0, whereas the HD 6870 benchmarks use Heaven 2.1. The relevance of the Extreme tessellation benchmark has been heavily questioned as well. Still, it is clear that AMD have taken tessellation very seriously with the HD 6000 series.

    Check the thumbnails.

Sorry but i gotta say some of these (Note: Unigine) arent true (Dont question my source, I cant tell you )

Cayman seems to be faster than GTX 480 though

    Wait till November

Edit: OK, il stop being too vague. "Cayman" (68xx) is targeting 900 Mhz core and 6000Mhz memory on a 256bit bus. VRM has been changed from Volterra to CHiL. TDP is to be around 200W, and there will be four GPU's based on Cayman. Expect it to be faster than the GTX 480.

67xx will be the "Barts" core. It is expected to be a modified Cypress (58xx).

66xx and 65xx will be filled up with "Turks". Itl be a modified Juniper core (57xx).

Expect price drops across the current range this fall

I believe u would be happier to know that the i7 950 has dropped to $294.
And abt the new prices taking effect in BD, ekh porjonto jekhane release prices ee karjokor hoy nai, shekhane abar recent price change er update hobe bole mone hoy?
In BD, the price rate for the i7 has been flat since it was released, khub beshi hole 1/2k diff. dekha giyeche. What happened at best is that the 920 got replaced by the 930.

In BD, the price rate for the i7 has been flat since it was released, khub beshi hole 1/2k diff. dekha giyeche. What happened at best is that the 920 got replaced by the 930.

Release time e akta price tag thake sob product er. Etake release price bole.

Example: Core i7 965, 975 and 980X - they have a release price of $999. Tar mane egula ber howar somoy price silo $999.

GPU er dam onekta kom, but CPU er dam global market er sathe akash patal difference.

Asian PCinlife Forums is the source, not Guru3D. They simply posted the news as a rumour. Unigine bench as I hear isnt real.

About SP's, I believe they are still deciding on how many cores to disable based on yields from TSMC. The architecture has been changed, previous SP and the new one is not the same. I cannot give more details, but know this much: efficiency has been increased. At this moment testing is being done to finalise the production # of shader processors. In fact, the target clocks will also be decided based on yields, initial target was 950Mhz but that does not look likely.

    Dont know about CHiL though...:S
CHiL supports voltage tweaking, most digital VRM does. Keep in mind that the GTX 480 uses CHiL voltage regulators. Theres no speciality, its about the same as the Volterra ones used before. However, Volterra screwed up, the samples they sent for testing to AMD didnt cut the mark (not because they make bad VRM's, maybe it was a few faulty batches). AMD decided to ditch them, go for CHiL. There were costs involved into this decision as well. Also, GDDR5 at 6000Mhz (target) will most probably be changed from Samsung to Hynix for the reference board, but the AIB partners can of course choose their own.
