HDMI, DVI or Analog which one is better while buying a LCD monitor? And what is the difference? Does the image quality varies for these?

HDMI,DVI both superior than D-sub(analog).HDMI and DVI same quality. But HDMI carry video and audio signal where DVI only video.

Default Re: HDMI, DVI or Analog which one is better while buying a LCD monitor?

Component analogue connection has noticeable difference in quality. Best example is image quality on our normal CRT TVs.

However I did not see any difference in quality between VGA analogue and other interfaces. I use VGA analog for my pc use and hdmi with my xbox 360. Before that I have tried watching Avatar 1080p 25GB with both VGA and HDMI connection with my pc. I did not notice any difference in performance and quality. Many people say digital connections are better but I am yet to see any tangible difference in VGA case.

However there will be difference with Bluray players because bluray content is uncompressed unlike 1080p or 720p movies which we download from torrents. Also bluray players need HDCP encryption support which requires HDMI.

HDMI also has the added benefit for carrying both audio and video in same cable. So it is less of a hassle.

HDMI is also needed for 3D content as 3D HDTVs and monitors are coming.

Long story short, u shud have all type of possible connections for both present and future use since monitors are sth we dont upgrade frequently unlike our main system. However if u r thinking abt pc gaming only, then even VGA connection will suffice. There is no difference in quality. You will rather see difference in quality based on ur monitor panel quality. The more better your monitor is, the better will be its image quality.

Default Re: HDMI, DVI or Analog which one is better while buying a LCD monitor?

The DVI connector usually contains pins to pass the DVI-native digital video signals. In the case of dual-link systems, additional pins are provided for the second set of data signals.
Dual-link should not be confused with dual display (also called dual head), which describes those situations where a computer is hooked up to two monitors at once. Neither, either, or both of the dual displays could be dual-link. Depending on the video card(s), the displays could be both analog (VGA), an analog and a digital, or both digital.
As well as digital signals, the DVI connector includes pins providing the same analog signals found on a VGA connector, allowing a VGA monitor to be connected with a simple plug adapter (or with a special purpose VGA to DVI-A or DVI-I cable). This feature was included in order to make DVI universal, as it allows either type of monitor (analog or digital) to be operated from the same connector.

The DVI connector on a device is therefore given one of four names, depending on which signals it implements:
    DVI-D (digital only)
    DVI-A (analog only)
DVI-I (integrated - digital and analog)
M1-DA (integrated - digital and analog, and USB)
    shamelessly copied from wikipedia ofcourse

As far as i know when we are watching jumbo size(like 25GB) 1080p uncompressed blue-ray movies in our 21 inch or 22 inch display,we can't find any difference between the DVI and the HDMI.But when you turns your display a way bigger(like 32",36",40",42"50")screen then you may find something special which won't easily be seen in our 21.5 or 22 inch display. So i think HDMI is optimized for bigger display to watch the image better than the other connections.

Correct me if I say something wrong.

Default Re: HDMI, DVI or Analog which one is better while buying a LCD monitor?

nope. Small or large, all full hd displays have max resolution of 1920x1080. So dvi is sufficient. Hdmi is hassle free as it can carry audio too and so it became popular. But it is must for 3d data as far as i know. I m not sure whether dvi can carry 3d data for 3d hdtv.
