    Default Open Ports and Closed Ports

    Can some one please explain to me what open and closed ports are and how do the work in torrenting? I know some fragmented stuffs but still can't figure out the whole picture.

    Open port = open door for peer connections to enter through.

    Closed port = closed door, people cannot initiate connections to you. Only you can initiate connections to them.

    For efficiency, people need to be able to connect to you -- thus the need for an open port.

    That much I know. But I wanted a bit more detailed. How does it work? How to open or close a port? How it works in torrent connections?

    ports are usually closed and opened by your ISP. If you have open ports, then you can also manually close them through your modem or router. But if they are closed by your ISP, then nothing to do.
