Default Guide: How to burn XBOX 360 games.

This guide will help you through the whole process of downloading and burning your own 360 games

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    What you need:
    1) Ability to read and remember
    2) Patience
    3) Dual Layer DVD+R DVDs and capable DVD burner*

    4) IMGBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download )
*You have§to make sure they are DVD+R DL discs. DVD-R DL will NOT work. Not many brands of these are available here. Most of the time I buy Mitsubishi DL discs. Costs me Tk180 per disc, Verbatim are around Tk220. Low quality DVDs won't work as the 360 needs to be able to constantly read from the disc which Melody does not allow.

Where to get proper 360 ISOs and which ones:
I always get them from torrents. You can get them from the site you get your PC ISOs, but there are specific details you need to pay attention to.

360s are region locked consoles. If you donít know what this is about, donít worry, just match a few specific details and you can play your games just fine.

There are basically 4 types of ISOs available:
1)NTSC (U/J) (the most probable one for use in BD)
    2)PAL
    3)NTSC Ė Region Free
    4)PAL Ė Region Free

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

To know which ones will run on your console, you need to check the power sticker on your 360. If it mentions USA anywhere, its NTSC, any European country is PAL. So when downloading the ISOs, you need to make sure the ISOs region matches with the 360s region.

This is not the case for any of the region free ISOs. A PAL Ė Region Free ISO will work on a NTSC 360. In the image check Alpha Protocol. It says PAL RF, RF=region free and hence it will work on any region 360.

And before anyone asks, no you cannot make your 360 region free. No you cannot buy region free 360s. They will all be locked to one region.

    Burning an ISO:

A standard 360 ISO uncompressed is 7.XGB. Compressed 5.7-7.0 GB. But you cannot run JTAG ISOs. Their sizes are very small comparatively and I know itís very tempting, but they wonít work unless you have a JTAGged 360. As far as I know, no modder in BD can do this, so donít even bother.

After a successful download and extraction, you will get 2 files.

    1 X .ISO
    1 X .DVD

    §
    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Fire up IMGBurn. And click on ĎWrite image file to discí. You will be at this screen:

    §
    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Browse for the source file by clicking on the folder-magnifying glass. When the screen prompts you to choose the file, you must select the .DVD file and not the ISO itself. The .DVD file will access the ISO during the burning process and apply all the proper settings.

You must also make sure that you burn it at a slow speed. I always choose 2.4x but IMGBurn automatically sets it to 5x as thatís the setting it gets from the .DVD file, along with other things like the layerbreak values.

You donít have to worry about the details, select the .DVD file and start burning the DVD. After thatís complete, insert the disc into your 360 and enjoy your game. J

Note: 360 DVD drive firmware are regularly updated and the ISOs are ripped accordingly. Old 360 games such as those of 2005 might not run on the 360 because of stealth checks. ĎStealth-ingí is what allows these games to be played online, tries to ensure a degree of safety. If an ISO isnít stealth-ed, the 360 wonít boot it.

I believe the latest firmware does not perform any stealth checks so its upto you to ensure the ISOs stealth status if you wish to take it online. If you cannot run current games and followed every step properly, then your DVD drive has old firmware. Take it to a modder and ask him to update it to the latest iXtreme firmware. I got it done for Tk1000 from Game Source, but enthusiast PC users might be able to do it themselves as you basically have to hook the DVD drive into your SATA port.

True, but I've been doing this ever since I had my 360, games cost Tk300 back then and this saved me Tk100 on each disc. Now it just saves me time, don't have to bother going to the shop.

Well it depends. Downloading does have its advantages if you have the patience. I finished Gears 2 and Halo Wars before they were being sold in BD.

Since its a Jasper, you probably have a Liteon drive. The latest firmware for Liteons don't have any issues, but there's no way to tell which one you have unless a game stops working for you. So just keep on playing and post back if you face any problems.

As for the DVDs, I bought them from ECS, IDB, Rifles etc. but they aren't available all the time. I have never seen a Verbatim disc actually, I always ask for them but shops don't have them in stock, hence I always get Mitsubishi, Tk30 cheaper and works just as well.

And thanks guys for your encouraging words.

As for the DVDs, I bought them from ECS, IDB, Rifles etc. but they aren't available all the time. I have never seen a Verbatim disc actually, I always ask for them but shops don't have them in stock, hence I always get Mitsubishi, Tk30 cheaper and works just as well.

I don't exactly remember. I think it'll show up as a DVD movie but won't play because of region issues. Not sure, saw it long time ago.

No you still need to mod your 360. The 360 'mod' is actually flashing the DVD drive with a new firmware which allows it to 'authorise' booting of unsigned discs. ie, pirated discs. This guide is just to show how to write you're own games from downloaded ISOs.
