    ei preview ta pore dekho.

Try not to think of Tron 2.0 when you read this preview -- goodness knows the developers weren't thinking of it when they made the game. And Kingdom Hearts 2's version of events in the mainframe? Forget about that, too.

What we're talking about: Tron: Evolution, an action game that serves as an interquel between the original Tron film and its upcoming sequel, Tron Legacy.

Where we saw it: Disney hosted private hands-off appointments behind closed doors during E3. Due to chaotic scheduling, GamePro shared an appointment with the video crew from another games publication that took live feed from the game, thus removing the game’s audio track for the duration of the demo.

    What you need to know:
The game combines parkour for movement and capoeira for combat. The main character moves and leaps around most levels in a fluid acrobatic display that only breaks down when you run out of energy or miss a jump.

There are three modes for the character to take for movement and combat that use varying degrees of energy. In normal mode, all attacks are average and energy usage seems average. In sprint mode, the character moves faster, but the attacks are weaker and it looks like it doesn't use as much energy. In defensive mode, the character can parry enemy attacks and deliver massive area-effect damage attacks of his own -- but this seems to severely deplete the energy gauge.

You get energy for movement and combat by making contact with white strips along the walls in most level, or by defeating enemies and collecting the pickups they drop.

The game is a hybrid of singleplayer and multiplayer. You have the option to skip multiplayer entirely and level up only using singleplayer in offline mode, but if you're playing with an internet connection, there are segments of singleplayer that force you into five on five multiplayer matches. These segments are padded out with A.I.-controlled players if you're playing offline.

Leveling is persistent between multiplayer and singleplayer. You can jump into either mode at any time from the game's main menu -- but any levels or items you pickup in one mode are carried over into the other. If you choose to play offline only, your level caps at 20 and the world scales in difficulty to match that -- if you open yourself up to multiplayer, you max out at level 50.

The light cycles are not nearly as frustrating as the ones in Kingdom Hearts 2, and the open-top design carries over into Legacy.

Disney takes its movie games very seriously. In an interview with Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager of Disney Interactive Studios, he told GamePro that Evolution and Legacy along with the Toy Story 3 game represent the beginnings of a strategy to overthrow the nasty stigma of the movie game. In these cases, the developers went to the filmmakers and said "I don't want to make a game of your movie, I want to make a game that honors the spirit of your movie." In the case of Tron, developer Propaganda Games got to work directly with the head writers on the film and see a great deal of pre-production work to set the tone for Evolution. The end result is that nothing in Evolution spoils or pantomimes Legacy and the two can exists as separate properties within the same Tron universe.

Point in development cycle: Alpha -- they wouldn't let the journalists play it. Hopper told us the game is not bound to the film's release date, so "it's ready when it's ready."

My take: Part of me cringed at how empty and dull the levels looked. I understand now that the levels have to be that big so the character can move around and do crazy combos and that it has to look that dull in color (blues, whites, occasional orange) because that's the dominant color scheme of the Tron world. Without a hands-on playthrough, though, I can't know if the gameplay spices up the appearance. I really hope it does -- I'm sick of the movie game stigma and I know that if anybody can defeat it, it's Disney Interactive.

Tron: Legacy is expected to anchor Walt Disney Pictures' Christmas blockbuster offerings this year when it is released in theaters on December 17. Disney Interactive Studios' film tie-in will arrive nearly two weeks before, as the publisher announced today that Tron: Evolution has been given a December 7 release date for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC.

Along with announcing a formal launch window for the Propaganda Games-developed action/vehicular combat game, Disney offered first word on the game's Collectors' Edition, which will be available only for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Following in the vein of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Halo: Reach, and Gran Turismo 5, Tron: Evolution's limited-edition package will carry a hefty premium over its standard-edition counterpart, costing $130.

Spiking the package's cost is an exclusive Tron light cycle collectible model (pictured), which is being manufactured by Sideshow Collectibles. The Collectors' Edition package also comes with a special casing to house the model, which in turn features a pullout drawer in its base for the game's box.

Detailing the events between the original Tron--released theatrically in 1982--and its imminent predecessor, Tron: Evolution features a story that further fleshes out the franchise's universe. Disney has positioned it as an integrated companion piece, where the film will reference events that occur in the game. However, the publisher also noted that both the film and the game operate just as well as stand-alone experiences.
