EA has shared the first details of next-generation Frostbite 3 engine to OXM. Battlefield 4 is the first EA title using the engine and already been introduced to public.
But Battlefield 4 is not the only game that will use Frostbite 3 in near future. There are 10 other EA titles that are using the Frostbite 3 engine. Dragon Age III and Mass Effect 4 already confirmed yesterday which is using the Frostbite 3 engine.
Among the list, there is the next Need For Speed title. The last Need For Speed title that used Frostbite 2 was The Run back in 2011. The same team of NFS might be using the engine again for their next title coming late 2013.
The next FIFA installment, FIFA 14 is also using the power of Frostbite 3. Imagine FIFA running on the beautiful Frostbite 3 engine.
The next installment in NHL series and Fight Night is also confirmed using Frostbite 3. But no mention of any Mirror's Edge 2.
Frostbite 3 engine starts development in 2011, right when DICE started polishing Battlefield 3. The developers from FIFA and Mass Effect also contribute themselves to develop this engine. The engine is much easier to work with for the developers. The biggest benefit of the engine is the use of higher level of texture detail, more complicated lighting and shadowing, and more in the way of environment deformation.
